Reposting this even though I did it a few pages back.  While we should celebrate Wanker's banishment, we need to get back to these thoughts.

Furk, I missed a good old fashioned Shaggy/Surly fatwa

Glad I didn’t read WB post doe

I may have gotten the kill shot.  I refreshed and it was 199 and then immediately negged another post.

I thought you were... and so was I... people get squeamish once you get someone in the red, but like any other monster i needs to be destroyed permanently, not just moved to where his buds can bring him back

If there ever was more evidence needed that CR rep should not count on this board, Wanker Bob really drove home that point.

He was definitely a wanker.

Can we take the banned poster celebration to another thread?

I've opened this thread up and been in complete disbelief, numb, heartbroken, sad, angry, reminded of texdude2006's untimely passing, seeing other posters old wounds reopened and now witnessing a good old fashioned fatwa and laughing out loud. I love this community. Stay surly. Hook 'Em 🤘 forever Jake and Kenny.

I know I jumped in the thread early yesterday, but I had a few more thoughts to share.  I have dealt with my share of loss in my life.  A lot of us have.  One of my best friends died back in 2018.  He was a real funny dude, and I had known him since I was about 12.  He was the guy who got me hooked on fantasy football eons ago.  After he died, I stayed off most social media and fantasy football for the better part of two years, because I just couldn't log on knowing that I would never see one of his funny jokes or posts again.  You never get over loss, though the sting may fade a bit over time.  Even still to this day, sometimes I run across something that I want desperately to share with him, and I start to...and then I remember.  It sucks.  He had teenage kids, and I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for them to lose their dad.  I can only imagine that losing a child, a sibling, or a parent must be even many times worse than this.

Like many who are parents here, I hugged my kids a little extra today.  I even took my youngest son out to the local minor league ballpark where we live for a game last night.  It was our first time to catch a game in nearly two years, due to the pandemic.  I enjoyed every minute of it, and I know full well that the day will probably come someday when we won't be able to do that anymore.  I hope not for a long time, though.  Nobody ever regretted spending too much time with their kids.  I've met tons of people who wish they had spent more, though.

To Jake's family and friends, wherever you are - I did not ever have a chance to meet Jake, nor even any of you personally.  He seemed like a wonderful young man, and I am deeply saddened by his loss.  I cannot ever feel his loss quite the same way as you do, nor would I ever even presume to.  But as a member of Longhorn Nation and a proud UT alum, I will stand beside you in spirit, shoulder to shoulder, and mourn with you along with thousands of others in this crazy extended family.  I hope you will lean on those in this family who are closest to you at this time for comfort and support.

GWe clearly have different opinions on comedy.  I personally could never find something to laugh about in a thread titled “Jake Ehlinger found dead near campus” but you do you...

I’ll be interested to see if they do anything with jersey 48. While I’d love to see Agent 0 wear it in game 1, I also think it would be great if it was given to one walk-on each year who excels on and off the field.

When I had just started at UT my close friend/roommate’s older brother suddenly died. He was just starting his adult life, a hilarious guy and great dude. Had a gf he was likely going to marry, it was just totally gutting all around.

My friend’s parents needed to be with their surviving son and lived out of town so they drove in and our little shitty West Campus apartment became the spot where the parents, brother, girlfriend, and a few of his other close friends gathered to grieve the night that they lost him. I’ll never forget the immeasurable loss and grief I witnessed that night. I was lucky enough to not have ever personally experienced much loss up to that point and that night just imprinted on me.

Aside from the tears, hugs, and sadness that you would expect what really surprised me was the laughter. There were three or four legitimately hilarious jokes/stories his mother told that had the entire room rolling. I’m not sure how the woman even had the strength to stand, let alone allow herself to make us laugh and allow herself to laugh along.

The laughter was all mixed up with and sometimes overlapped with the crying. It certainly didn’t make the loss or the grief go away but it was part of everyone in that room’s process. I’ll never forget that sound of laughter coming from the saddest room I had ever been in my life though.

As they should be.  We all want answers for a tragedy like this, and hopefully any further details will come out on the family's own terms.

It’s nobody’s business but theirs. His heart stopped beating and then he quit breathing or vice versa and either no one was there to do CPR or it was futile. Why and how don’t matter.

Rest easy Jake

I worked up this little arrangement for this past Easter, but I'd like to offer it here as a small tribute to Jake. As the father of a UT senior who's Sam's age, who's now just beginning his own epic adult journey through life, I mourn for the tragic loss of potential, and a life cut short. I can only hope those around him can find solace in the memories of his short but impactful life.

I lost my only sibling (brother) to bone cancer when he was 23. He when he was diagnosed at MD Anderson he was given 6-18 months to live. He lived 3 years to the day of the first day he set foot in MD Anderson.

My wedding was 9 days prior to his passing. My mom spent the last 8 months of my brothers life at MD Anderson. Living in an RV in the parking lot. When she returned, to her it was almost like she lost two sons. My parents had some very dark years after my brother death. Fortunately they leaned on their faith. The anniversary of my brothers death and his birthday were very difficult days for my family for years.

Twelve years to the day after my brothers death my only son was born. The day of my brothers death be came a reason to celebrate. Not only was my son born on the anniversary of my brothers death, he was born almost to the minute of his passing. My son was born at 2:31 am my brother passed at 1:32 am. This happened to be the date clocks fall back. Time helps but you never forget and truthfully you really don’t want to forget.

my prayers are with the Ehlinger family. I know some dark days are ahead but faith and family will pull them through.

First, I’m so very sorry for your Family’s loss.
Second, this quoted section right here gave me chills- In a most positive way.

I pray that the Ehlinger Family experiences something similar in their future.

When I was 20, I got a call from a friend telling me that my best friend from high school had fallen off a boat during a nighttime river party. Divers found his body the next day. We hadn't been close since I went to school, but he had gotten heavy into alcohol in high school after his mom died. I was a fairly straight laced kid, so I pushed him away when I didn't want to be his DD anymore. After his death, I spent years blaming myself. As it were, I was in a metal band at the time and wrote a song about him. The music genre was fortuitous in that it allowed me to scream "I let you drown" at the top of my lungs unironically. 13 years later, I still wonder if there wasn't more I could have done.

Tl;dr young people dying causes unhealing wounds

Gob bless the Ehlinger family during this heartbreaking time.

All respect, love and condolences to the Ehlinger family.  Fuck Wanker Bob and his bullshit forever.  FWB.

I’ve got freshman twins and hugged then extra long tonight when they got home from college. It’s unfathomable what the Ehlingers are going through. Rest In Peace, Jake.

I have been a bit hesitant to post anything else in this thread because it is solely about the Ehlinger family. But ...

Reading the outpouring of love and support in this thread, and having to live the horror of having a child taken, the inspiration comes in the most unusual ways.

Today, I was scheduled to give about a 30 minute presentation on mental health/eating disorders and the legal community. (My daughter died from eating disorders after fighting it for 7 years ... and before you say, what the fuck?... eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses [only behind opioid addiction] with one person dying every 52 minutes]). The presentation is going to be shown during an international conference in June.

I admit that there was a certain ... "emotion" missing from it. And then, I began to think of Jake's mom, what she surely must be feeling, that is if she is feeling anything yet, and in the midst of my despair and flashbacks to my pain, for some reason, I found new strength and resolve.  Good God, what that incredible mother is going through right now is inconceivable! It filled me with greater resolve ... and purpose. And maybe.. . just maybe, My words will touch others.

Jake's mom will never know about this. But one day, I hope she feels it ... she feels in her heart, that she and her beloved son, made a difference. That she and her son saved lives in the most unexpected ways.

No words for her ... other than, she is not alone. I now know of so many other moms and dads who had a child ripped from their loving arms.

But, from the senseless... if we can find reason. If we can save even one life...
