Long story short. We bought new kitchen cabinet doors and are having someone paint the cabinets and install the doors. He started yesterday and we changed our minds and want concealed door hinges.  I just need a link to some the dont require us to bore a hole in the doors. I ordered some for today but the guy said those wont work. Shaker doors. Pretty standard 1990s kitchen cabinets. I will need to order tomorrow for Saturday. Links to amazon or home depot or Lowe's preferable.

Thanks for the post. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna fuck this up but the wife is dead set. Without knowing a damn thing about this I'm surprised they dont have a non bore option.

Can’t wait for the sequel “anybody got a new cabinet guy?”

Ohhh, wait, wait, wait. I've seen that sequel. You probably don't want your wife involved with that one. Trust me.

HOW MUCH OVERLAY???? on the cabinet doors?

If you do not know the answer to this question... you will fuck it up.

The Kreg tool is pretty good, but you need to make damn sure you have the math right, and that you buy the correct hardware.  The good news for you as that as long as you use the bore tool correctly, and buy the tight overlay hinges, you will be 2/3 of the way home.  The other important thing I would do is create some sort of jig that I could clamp on to the upper cabinets to keep all the cabinet faces level.  Just something to rest door on, to save time.  You can make minor adjustments to this hinges once in place.  But to the eye NOTHING is worse looking than cabinet doors that do not look level around the kitchen.  A clamp and a jig make this un-fuckupable.

Then you will be just a couple screws away from hanging them properly.

We're looking to replace all of our cabinet doors in order to get slow-close hinges. We've got 3 young boys and will stay in this house till we die. What's the right way to go on this? Local cabinet makers, big box store, or order online?

I think the big box stores only offer MDF doors. We'll hire someone to paint the doors (or buy them painted) and the existing cabinets, though. I've read MDF works better with paint? If you recommend hardwood, what kind? Looking over the online for options and there's a huge variety of woods at different price points.

Thanks in advance.

Slow close sounds fancy.  I've raised (or nearly raised) two boys, and a tiny felt or cork dot-pad on one inside corner of the door so no one hears the cabinet door slam has been perfectly adequate.
