Chris Nolan has made new 70mm prints of 2001 A Space Odyssey from the original camera negatives and it will be shown at Cannes on May 12 and then in select theaters starting on May 18.

My crazy aunt Roxie took us all to see it at the Windsor Cinerama in Houston when it first came out. my parents and sisters were all like WTF? me? it blew me away.

one problem, I cant seem to find which theatres are showing it.

He doesn't actually say that line in 2001, though, right? They play the recording in 2010 (and I have read that it's in the book).

Yeah, gonna need to know if they're doing any of these screenings nearby.

Correct.

My memory had mixed them, but I re-watched 2001 recently, and nope, he doesn't say it.

I too saw this as a child (drive-in in Dallas with my parents)...I must have been about 4.  And then 30 more times since.  Cant wait to see improved quality of the originals!  Got a box set somewhere around here of all things Kubrick....DVD quality though, its old.

I'm sorry Dave.  I'm afraid I can't do that.

Such a creepy scene.

Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

Watching those sequences now, in an era of actual AI and when even more powerful AI is right over the horizon....it's chilling.  Seriously, it's some troubling shit.

Dave, sit down and shut the fuck up.

What's the problem?

Oh, I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

What are you talking about ,HAL?

The Mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.

The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

So you can be a normal person?  Huh.  I had no idea.

This movie probably made me have computer geek career, that and the space war game on a mini-computer at Esso Production Research on Buffalo Speedway that I got to play as an Explorer Scout in Scientific Post 997.

Best computer scenes in movies, all the H.A.L. scenes in 2001, turn the cooling back on Mother! BITCH! smashes monitors, Mr Scott talking to the mouse in The Journey Home, and Gary 7's computer.

Ps worst? War Games, stupidest fucking computer movie ever.

And now for something completely different...
