Why is the French national team so goos yet their domestic league such a joke? And why Serie A really good but the Italian national team poor?

Since when has the Italian national team been poor?

And you are talking about 23 players per national team vs. 500 players in each of those leagues.

nederland have been in the wilderness for 7 years.   the jekyll/hide of national teams.  after missing the last 2 majors who the fuck knows what they will bring.

They missed the last world cup no? Isn't that bad?

Ligue 1 isn't a joke. It isn't the EPL or the Bundesliga, but it's a fun and usually attacking style league. Their biggest problem is PSG's domination over greater Paris.

dude.
Serious question. I'm new to world football.

They've been up and down since winning the WC in 2006. They've had some good performances in the Euros. They also had a brutal group in 2014 with England, Uruguay and the best Costa Rica team ever and got hosed against Uruguay.

It isn't crazy for even historically dominant European national sides to miss the WC, either. Qualifying out of UEFA is brutal. They sure as shit look plenty good right now.

This is the reason. They were knocked out by being in Spain's group then losing to Sweden in the playoff. That was a disappointment but Sweden won their group and made the quarters. This wasn't some Trinidad and Tobago thing.

France are like 22 deep at centerback. It’s ridiculous. Probably 48 deep until you get to Tim Ream and Mark McKenzie.

They were OLD AS FUCK in 2014 and had to play in sauna-like conditions.

Old people like hot/steamy weather, but they don't move very quickly in it.

Italy has a good blend of ages this go-round and the tournament is all over the the continent and not always in the middle of the day in a rainforest.

Their entire league is littered with their u23 prospects all starting and playing tons of minutes with enough talent that their Top 5 teams can compete in Europe. Its like Liga MX, but with talent taller than 5'7".

The play by play guy in this Welsh-Swiss match sounds like an old radio announcer. Everything's yelling and verbal exclamation points.

Settle down, Beavis.

Holy shit, I'm thinking Beth would tell him to tone it down.

Embolo gets the swiss on the board with a header off a corner.

I flipped the game on just before Wales tied it up - I wondered why the Chiefs were playing soccer.

PBP guy needs to mix in some Sean McDonough voice crack/vocal fry to really step his yelling game up to the next level.

I just noticed that Finland lost their friendly to Estonia last week. That's a hell of a way to go into your first major tournament.

O'Shaughnessy was born in Riihimäki, Finland, to an Irish father Robert (from Galway) and a Finnish mother and holds dual Finnish-Irish citizenship.[25] O'Shaughnessy's older brother Patrick is also a former professional footballer.

Wales is no slouch. I made a comment on the USMNT thread being surprised that they are ranked 17th in the FIFA rankings.

I went back and watched... he was just walking, then stumbled and collapsed face-first.

So awful. What the fuck is it about soccer that makes it so much more likely for guys to die on the pitch? Seems like it happens way more than in really any other sport.

Yeah you could see a teammate trying to get his tongue I thought as first choking but that’s heart attack territory or something.

Fuck.

They need to stop the fucking clock and get the score off the board. It’s not about the game anymore
