    Happ's going deep today.

8-9 over their last 17 games.

This is what i am hoping for (and yes it's asking a lot considering their recent form)

-Win today and tomorrow

-St Louis salvage the last game of the Brewers series today

Cubs up two with 3 games left

Regardless they are going to struggle to make it out of the first round with as shitty as their bats have been over the last several weeks.

Runs scored in last 10  home games- 0,1,1,1,3,1,3,2,2,3

Is that bad?

Shit ton of 1 run games this second half, doing our pitching staff zero favors and it's a staff that needs help.

i just want to see us taking pitches in the postseason. make the opposing starter throw 100+ pitches if he makes it into the 6th inning. every postseason downfall we've had in recent years has been due to poor AB after poor AB. it'll be Rizzo, KB, and Javy having a 10-pitch 3-up, 3-down, followed by Schwarber, Contreras, and Russell doing the exact same thing. We can't win that way. We need to have better AB's.

I totally agree but pretty sure Russell won't be seen in the Cubs dugout again until the middle of next season at the very earliest.

well yeah, we can at least count on that part of the equation changing this year.

Jhey with a huge hr!! Man, we obviously gotta win this one. Don’t think we have enough pitching or bats for a deep run but you just never know once you get in the playoffs.

Blame the shitty bullpen situation

I’ll defend Madden 9 times out of 10 but this is still on the Strop ab w the bases loaded.

I dont disagree with you at all.

Maybe a walkoff and some adversity is what this team needs right now. They need days off more than anything but fuck this has been a beating lately.

Whew!!!!

Always a grind, going to be one til the very end!

At least the offense looked better tonight. Win tomorrow, and we will all feel a lot better but the NL is a complete toss up. Any of the Dodgers, Rockies, Braves, Brewers, and Cubs could win the NL and bentover by the Red Sox or Astros.

Totally agree...Or Indians even. I do think brewers have best/most complete team but they are not playoff proven as a team.

Going to be a dog fight this weekend

Yep.

Today is a must win. Get back to a full game lead and force the Brewers to win out.

Cubs hold the division tie breaker- One game division winner game Monday at Wrigley- Win you get a couple days off, lose and you play the following day in the wildcard one game playoff.

Obviously if they win out its a moot point but I don't want any part of a one game playoff right now with as shitty as the bats have been.

I think 2 out of 3 will do it vs the Cards but we really need an afternoon win tomorrow. Pitching matchups will be interesting at the very least. Bats need to show up.

Jon Lester is a Bull, I'm following along and watching his pitch count rise and his velocity drop and am thinking "oh shit". Guy just toughed it out, Bote was the spark offensively. Just need to let things fall back in place.

The one time in my life I need the City of Detroit to give a fuck and fight for its pride.

That was a filthy drag bunt by Zobrist after the 1-out 2B by Murphy.

Nice to see Bryant get one out after that first at bat he had

Glad Madden let Kyle work through that inning. He could still go 8 today with only 70 pitches after 6.

Bote saved a big inning earlier, may have opened one up here.

Hendricks bailed him out.

Kyle has been looking like 2016 Kyle as of late. And he draws a walk getting to hit for himself in the 7th.

Bote could make up for that error here.

Or he could force an error give us runners on 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs.

Maybe the best FA signing in the history of the Cubs.

Considering David Ross's hr off of Miller in Game 7 and for $5 million over 2 years :-).

Ha, yeah I would throw Zobrist in there as well, but for all he has done the Cubs aren't in their 4th straight playoffs and probably don't have the title without Lester.

No doubt the Lester signing is the best, and the Arrieta trade was the best trade.

You may be short-changing one.

That's true, but at the time I thought it was a pretty even trade for both teams. I still feel bad for Rizzo that Cashner has been making more money per year than him.

Considering the Cubs traded for Ryno and Sosa as well.

I love watching the Cards play defense. They are like a beer league softball team.

Magic #2

I love day baseball when they win. Puts the pressure on the Brewers to hold serve.

5 fucking pitches. Bottom of the 9th, heart of the order, and they see 5 fucking pitches.

Cubs and Brewers holding big leads heading to the 7th inning in each game.  Looks like more baseball tomorrow.

Brewers fan here. Not often we get relevant discussion on the Shag Surl.

Given how hot we are and how tepid y'all are, I like our chances. But Quintana has like a 0.00 ERA against the Brewers this season while he's sucked shit through a straw against everyone else.

Also, currently in Chicago for work and the thought of getting anything done today is laughable.

I feel like the Brewers are due to lose a game, but Maddon's quick hook has me nervous. I think this is going to be a long game with lots of moves and changes, but I am hopefully this lineup today will go back to grinding out AB's and put some pressure on. I won't be surprised with any result that happens today, this is a complete toss-up.

Love the behind the umpire camera angle.  And ESPN knows how to mic a stadium.  Broadcast feels very October-y today.

some good ab's here early on.

aaaand we hit into a double play as i'm typing this. but still, some good ab's.

I wouldn't mind seeing Chavez as the closer.  Guy has been solid to great and has the intensity of a closer.

And he barely made the Rangers out of ST as the long man. Helluva turnaround season.

He's been really great, and doesn't seem phased by much.

Damnit, leadoff walk follow by weak double play.
