April 1, 20223 yr We were leaving west palm beach on an early ass flight. Before security I asked my daughter if she had a water bottle in her backpack and if so get rid of it. Of course she said she didn’t have one but did and we got flaggedWe got stuck behind some Cubans or Puerto Ricans with all kinds of shit. They were pulling out Irish spring soap, bananas, toothpaste, all kinds of shit. Looked like a grocery storeWe had to wait like 20-30 mins behind them because of one fucking water bottle that immediately got thrown away

April 2, 20223 yr This camera work is actually going to give me an aneurysm. It's like they gave the controls to some high as a kite 16 year old from Booker T. trying to make the next Hurt Locker.
April 2, 20223 yr Someone hits the ball and you have no fucking idea if it's a good hit, tough play, routine, foul etc.
May 31, 20223 yr We are flying out of Austin to Wisconsin at 10:30 Friday morning. If we get to the airport by 7:00 should we be ok to get through security on time? A friend who flies all the time for work says the tsa lines are pretty unpredictable right now. My wife and I have tsa precheck and clear, but my parents are going with us and they have neither. My wife bought the tickets so they may or may not get pre-check when we check in. I don’t want to count on it. They both have enough bionic parts that the X-ray machine is always an adventure.
June 1, 20223 yr I know nothing about the current state of the lines these days, but can the parents get the 30 day free trial on CLEAR? That still around?
June 1, 20223 yr I flew out at that same time last Friday. I got there at 7:30 and breezed through security. The line was long, but it was pre 9/11 screening so no taking off shoes, no taking laptops out of bags, and going through the old metal detectors. There was a bomb dog, but that was a quick process. Now obviously, past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results, but that was my experience.

I thought about that, but don't see anything about a free trial on their website. We are on the family plan of a friend, so we don't have that option.

June 1, 20223 yr For what it’s worth, the bag drop and security lines this morning were a breeze, but I’m guessing a Wednesday departure is different than on Friday or Saturday. However, the FastPark shuttles were understaffed for the morning crowd, and some folks had been waiting 15 minutes or so for a shuttle.
June 1, 20223 yr Unrelated but does anyone know if they are going to be bringing back valet parking? We used it in March of 21 but last time we flew it was blocked off and deserted. They still have a sign for it as you drive in to the short term parking. It was obviously very convenient and not that much more expensive than other options for a weekend trip.
June 1, 20223 yr I never park at the city parking lot, but Park n Zoom does valet. I’ve tried every one of the third-party parking lots and park n zoom is consistently the best service and fastest.

June 1, 20223 yr You can skip the TSA pre-check line and regular security line. Clear has their own lane where you scan your eyes at a machine and then are good to go.

Clear doesn't do anything Global Entry doesn't on the way back in, unless I'm mistaken.

June 2, 20223 yr So what happens if you use a different email and sign up for the free trial? It says If you create a second account with a new e-mail, you will not be able to complete your enrollment at the airport. Anyone try this?
June 16, 20232 yr Well if people just biked to the airport or took the mass transit train, they'd have had more time to clear the security lines. All of our bashing aside, I think we might be the worst run major U.S. city
June 29, 20232 yr Get to fly out on Saturday at 6AM. We all have pre-check so hopefully that helps somewhat.

June 29, 20232 yr Flew out yesterday at 7am and it was busy but nothing crazy. TSApre took 5 minutes.
June 29, 20232 yr What's super fun is that this now appears to be just a random thing that occurs every few weeks or so. You will likely show up at the airport, and the TSA lines will be normal and manageable. But every 20-30 days, some of us will draw the black bean, and show up with a line longer than the one outside South Austin's mom's bedroom.

June 30, 20232 yr It’s like literally the busiest travel weekend of the summer. You didn’t just pull a red ball out of a bag.
June 30, 20232 yr Got to ABIA at 6am and my security checkpoint was pretty packed, but they were moving folks through relatively quickly. So far not a shitshow.

July 1, 20232 yr 5am today. Precheck was 5 minutes. Maybe 30 people in line. The poors line looked like it was 20-30 minutes.

October 1Oct 1 So, anyone have experience with the TSA process at ABIA during a gov't shutdown? Wife and I have a flight on Friday, trying to figure out how much of a cluster it will be.
October 1Oct 1 Not Austin, but I flew out of Charlotte this morning and it was no different than a regular morning regarding TSA
October 1Oct 1 Just a general FYI but pre-check a couple Friday’s ago took about 40 minutes. The new scanners are slow as shit and having all of pre-check at one checkpoint is dumb af.

They can always not go in and cause delays, but that's usually if the shutdown exceeds 2 weeks (aka, no paycheck). So for this week, you probably won't notice anything. Edited October 1Oct 1 by Js1

I don't even bother with using Clear anymore precheck has been so fast. The biggest issue most times is people not realizing there's 5 more scanners around the corner, so it piles up at the boarding pass checkpoint.

Longest pre-check line I’ve encountered at ABIA. Didn’t seem to be any obvious issues, just volume of people and slow ass scanners.
October 1Oct 1 If the shutdown isn't resolved in the next few weeks, the Austin airport could be a shitshow with ACL Fest followed by Formula 1.
