By signing Patty Mills?

It's complicated but they were able to convince Griffin to stay on a vets minimum.  Kept Bruce Brown on RFA QO.  They also added a tough forward in James Johnson and got shooting and scoring on the bench with Patty while losing Jeff Green, which will hurt every 3rd game, and Landry Shamet, who's just a guy.  The real interesting part is the Dinwiddie trade, because it's not finalized but it could include sending DeAndre Jordan's shitty contract out and/or adding Kuzma.  No one knows what it'll look like.  Maybe just a first round pick and TPE which could be used to acquire another good rotational player during the season.  Nets, as big taxpayers, didn't have a ton of options but have added a couple of intriguing rookies (who probably get traded) and were able to add shooting, a flexible forward and keep a couple of strong bench pieces.

Not as sexy as LA's offseason, certainly in name value, but they were able to do somethings.  Still need to complete that Dinwiddie trade, let the dust settle to see how they'll take some of their assets to acquire win now pieces.  They mainly need health.

Think the Nets are a lock for the Finals if they stay healthy.

Lakers- well hopefully this is like when old Karl Malone and Gary Payton joined up with Shaq and Kobe.

Just resigned Horton-Tucker and signed Kendrick Dunn as a UFA with an exception.  And they've had sexy names added was the implication, not sure how all of those guys integrate or if they can still play but names like Dwight, Melo, Westbrook, and Ariza have cast pretty long shadows the last couple of decades in the league.  Reminds a little of the Malone/Payton version of the Lakers.

I missed that Jarett Allen got paid by the Cavs. $100M/5yrs.

Good to see he didn't take the Nerlens Noel route...  Nerlens, we're offering $90 million...  Nah, I'm good.  Don't remember what paltry contract he ended up signing.

Really surprised by this one.    Thought Presti would hold him long enough to try and trade him for picks

Happy for Kemba, but also surprised Presti couldn't find an acceptable trade for him. Not sure how he fits with the Knicks though. Dallas should kick the tires on signing him.

He's signing with the Knicks for $8 million reportedly. Not sure how many years. I don't know if his knee is toast but that's a great signing by NY.

Teams didn’t want to risk on Kemba.  Major injury red flags, especially with that contract.  I thought he’d be able to get more but I guess not.

Yep, Presti was able to flip the pick they got with him for 2 more picks but still figured he would try to get more.   His agent must've been very convincing.    Kemba is from NYC and has always wanted to play there.   Not really a Thibs kinda guy but who is their pg now?

I guess I was thinking Kemba's no longer a starting PG in the league and they already have Rose locked up as that 6th man/backup PG role. Maybe they'll continue the Randle as point-forward strategy.

Looking at their roster, Kemba is going to be starter if he is healthy. Looks like Walker and Fournier are the starters with Rose and Burks as the backups. Which makes no sense considering it looks like they struck gold in Quickley.

I think Kemba had over $70 million left on his deal; I’d be curious to know how much, if any, he gave back to OKC or if OKC said fuck it and just wrote one hell of a check.

Probably.  Kemba's not really a great facilitator.  Much more of a scoring guard in a point guard's body.  If his knee can handle it, I'm going to guess he soaks up Payton's minutes.

They had a nice core developing around Quickley, Barrett, Randle, and Robinson. I guess you could include Toppin in that core too. But why the long term commitments to guys that don't raise your ceiling in Fournier and Rose.

Yeah, the young guys were playing well but that is not Thibbs style generally.    If you are going to have him as a coach you are going to have a vet laden lineup

I like what the Pelicans have done. We got rid of Bledsoe, everything else has been gravy.

Yea that’s a huge number.  Not sure why okc would buy him out at that price.

Graham and Sato are totally serviceable as a starter back up duo. I'd also have them and their contracts instead of Lonzo at 4/85

It's exactly what it is. And I give it a 95% chance of failing just like that one did.

Westbrook is an absolute fucking cancer. I don't care who he's playing with. And I'm bearish on LeBron and AD being able to play 70+ games including the playoffs.

Obviously I'm biased because I hate the fucking Lakers but Westbrook at this point is like that crazy bitch that you try and keep from coming to your chill house party because when she shows up she makes everything about her, gets way too drunk, and starts fights with anyone willing to give her attention.

Graham is an upgrade over Lonzo. Especially with Zion and JoVal on your team. Pels are clear winners of this off-season and it isn't close so far.

Even David Griffin, the Pelicans GM,  doesn't believe this.

Graham had a bad year last year but was constantly banged up. If he can shake the rust off and stay healthy he will be a better fit than Zo at that position. His shooting numbers will improve now that he isn't on a dogshit Hornets team lacking any sort of vision.

I'm not a fan of games like Graham's, which are all 3 point centric.  If you can't shoot 42% or more in the league total, maybe start refining your game.  That said, these GMs and coaches are absolutely okay with it so whatever.  Getting back to Graham/Ball.  If you think about value per dollar, I think Graham is probably the better value.  Ball at 85m isn't really a great value IMO.

if Lonzo's shot keeps getting better he is going to start being looked at in a whole new light fairly soon.

As a pretty good player, yes.  But a 15 PER, .90 WS/48, 1.6 BPM doesn't scream star.  Lonzo's best attribute may be his defensive versatility thus far.  If he takes another jump with his play making then he maybe could be a 3 on a championship contender, but he's a long way off right now.  Still very young.

Graham gets to the line about twice as much as Ball and shoots 84%. He's also a better ball handler and has better court vision - he has just never had anything to work with in his career. I'm not saying he's a better player in a vacuum than Lonzo but I like his upside on the Pels better than Lonzo. He has more floor general potential and can create his own shot a bit better.

This isn't me knocking Lonzo - I think he's a good player. I just think Graham has the potential to develop some special chemistry with what will be an elite frontcourt and make an efficiency jump on top of it. He was an 18/7.5 player 2 years ago.

Also - Zo's scoring is just as much predicated on the 3 ball as Graham's if not more so. So if you want to make that criticism then include both of them.

If LeBron is worried that I'm ever going to do anything but vehemently hate the Lakers whether it's warranted or not then he's sorely mistaken.

Bulls did well.

back to the Lakers didn’t Westbrook already get melo kicked off his team once already.  Russell is basically a smaller, much shittier version of lebron

only player who averaged 4 turnovers the last 7 years?  Ranked 33rd out of 34 players that averaged 20 ppp in true shooting percentage?

It's just LeBron's hubris and continuance in acting as GM whenever he wants. He thinks he can save everyone's career and prove everyone wrong because of how great he is.

Let’s see how long Russ will want to be option 3.   Fourth team in four years.  Maybe it’s him that’s the issue

I joked about the winning by getting rid of Bledsoe but no they made some marginal improvements I guess.    I'd say CHI prolly had the best offseason so far.   Followed by the Lakers and the Heat

Edited by d2o

I like Graham a lot, he was basically forced out once the Hornets got Ball 2.0, so I suspect he will have a sizable chip on his shoulder and a lot more talent in Williamson and Ingram. The best thing the Pelicans did was fire the shitty Van Gundy.

Is that a joke about the Lakers? They got worse.

Nope.  Only loss I really have an issue with is KCP.   Kuz is never going to be anything more than he is and Trez just didnt fit.    I dont love the spacing issues that Russ will bring but overall he is an improvement over any of the guys they lost.   The role player additions I really like Ariza, Melo, Nunn, Monk, Baze, Dwight and Ellington.

Final tally on the 5 team trade
