I believe it was the breaststroke event and the judges determined he had an illegal stroke/incorrect form.

Illegal turn on his backstroke to breaststroke transition. It was really blatant, and almost looked like he forgot he was not doing a normal backstroke turn for a second (he mainly competes in the backstroke events)

Texas had another good night tonight at the NCAAs including 3 individual titles. Here's the standings headed into the final day of competition. Cal and Indiana are Texas' only competition.

Great night for Texas. Our top swimmers are bringing it, including those 3 individual titles: Hubert Kos - 100 back, Rex Maurer - 400 IM, and Luke Hobson - 200 Free. A couple surprise freshman finalists were the cherry on top - Cooper Lucas 6th in 400 IM and diver Jacob Welsh came out of nowhere to grab 4th in the 3 meter (he was 17th at SECs).

Indiana is probably out of it, they have the best divers but just don't have the swimming star power.

The swimming community seems to think Texas has locked up the title, but I'm still worried about Cal. Today is their best day in the pool and they could overcome our lead if they swim as well as they did yesterday. It could come down to the last relay.

Kos for Texas won the Backstroke 200Y final, but California finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, and 13th which allowed Cal to close the gap.

With 5 events left.....

1. Texas 428

2. California 389.5

3. Indiana 344

4. Florida 256

Neither Cal or Texas have a rep in the diving finals. It will come down to the final relay. Cal is favored over Texas in the final relay, and the winner gets 40 points. Texas needs to get 8th place or better in the final relay to secure the championship.

I’d hope a national championship caliber team could field a relay that 8 other teams can’t beat.

also sounds like those 11 lost points in the IM would be useful.

We had a top 8 qualifying time. For all intents and purposes, Only a disqualification in the relay could cause us to lose the championship. That’s how I see it. First place gets 40 points and 8th place gets 22 points. Dew the math

Anothing thing to note about the relay: Just because Texas will race in the final 8 heat, doesn't guarantee a top 8 finish. Its all based on time, so a team from the consolation heat could technically win the event as long as their time is the best.

#267

20 events down, just 1 event left. Texas added a few points from the consolation dive event

1. Texas                             466

2. California                        441

3. Indiana                           431

Does this sport usually wrap up at 11p Central? I mean, I'm not exactly busy, but seems weird.

Washington is hosting this event, so its only going on 9pm.

With the 2025 national crown under his belt, Texas head coach Bob Bowman becomes the first NCAA Men's Division I Swimming and Diving head coach to win National Championships in back-to-back years with two different teams.

My daughter works as a lifeguard for the team at the jamail swim center, so she gets to see how the sausage is made. They basically signed nda's, so I don't know Bob's secrets other than recruiting great swimmers.

I'd say it's one of the easier on campus jobs. Also, go to the ER; you're having  a stroke.

They admitted the relay was about not getting dq’d (safe starts)sotheycould get the points for placing. A dq would lose the whole thing potentially.

For the love of fuck, quit diving.

Diving used to be a strength and even helped us win a couple championships but last few years it has been in the shitter, and what’s worse, since it impacts the total number of participants allowed (18) it may have blocked out some swimmers that could have contributed . Don’t know what happened to diving.

Such an impressive year 1 for Bob Bowman and staff. They maximized the team's returning talent, and 3 of our big 4 scorers were transfers he brought in. Everything matters when the final score is close, but the Notre Dame transfer Chris Giuliano was absolutely critical because his sprinting elevated our relays significantly.

Next year the playing field is kinda blown wide open, as this year's championships was dominated by seniors and COVID 5th years. Fortunately Texas easily has the most returning points of any team, and we have a great recruiting class coming in. But another wrinkle is most teams are now having to cut athletes based on new roster limitations because of NIL stuff - Texas had 40 on roster this year and need to trim to 22 by fall. The transfer portal will be crazy this year.
