Eyes of Tammy Faye : Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain

Featured Replies

Hate to see Chastain debase herself like that. This isn’t a story that needs to be revisited.

35% of America needs to watch this film so they can laugh and think, "Whoah...I may not be the smartest kid in the class but at least I never fell for grifters like the Bakkers.  They'll never get one over on me like that, tell you what."

Also, even as Tammy Faye, I just want to be on Jessica Chastain.  In some form or fashion.

I’m sure the acting will be good but I have zero interest in those people or their story.

If you told me this was the trailer for Fargo season 5 I wouldn’t know any different

Watch her play a stripper. She rules in that role.

Fuck the rehabilitation of Tammy Faye.

You’ll never convince me she was some innocent naïf who just had no idea what Jim was up to.

And the gall to use this title and then the makeup team don’t even get the eyelashes right!

Who's playing Jessica Hahn?

Not even a character in the film per IMDB. Hard to believe they'd gloss over that little detail.

Jim and Tammy Faye always made me think of characters from a 1960s puppet TV series.   Follow them up with a little psilocybin and top it off with some Ernest Angley, and you were ready for anything.  Evull spreerots, get AYYYouuut! SMACK!

Sounds like a good recipe for a bad trip.

You ain’t lived until you’ve shroomed to Robert Tilton. You know it’s a good one when you can understand him speaking in tongues.

If they still do Oscars for makeup, these guys don't have to worry about going to that next year.

I know Robert Tilton well. I’d sooner die than watch him in a psychedelic state.

“Hora bassandah kitira dobosoyah!”

Yikes. No thank you.

Back in college we got really high one night and my roommate put on Robert Tilton. At first I was "Dude wtf?" But he insisted and said it's great comedy. Sure enough we are laughing our asses while eating Cheetos watching this dude ask for money while sporadically saying "Mecca Lecca High Mecca Hiney Ho" or whatever he was chanting.

No comments on Vincent D'Onofrio playing Jerry Falwell?

He's damn good in everything and I expect no less in this instance.

That was an interesting movie. Chastain was incredible

I’ve watched this twice just because of her performance.

Also, I found her strangely hot in the college aged years - especially with the blond hair.

The further the movie went, the less it looked like her. The makeup department did the job so well.

This is one of those movies I'll never watch because I know how worthless of a human being the story is about.

why strangely? do you prefer men?

You found Jessica Chastain, one of the most beautiful women in the history of our solar system, to be "strangely hot"?

Whuh?

She’s playing Tammy Faye Bakker you clever fucks. [emoji23]

You mean Bryce Dallas Howard?

BDH is attractive.  Chastain is a beauty from an eternity ago and an eternity from now.  I’d call her ‘timeless’ but then I’d have to retrieve my watch in her ass.

I recall watching Jim and Tammy’s show on TV in 70s in complete disbelief that people actually bought into their BS.  My favorite Tammy moment was when she once interviewed a woman that had no arms and her first question was “how do you put on your makeup”?

I laughed my ass off many years ago, when I saw Jim Bakker babbling after he was sentenced and headed off to prison.

"The lord works in mysterious ways."

and/or

"The lord will provide."

Amen.

I thought it was a good watch.  Intended or not, it did make Tammy out to be a sympathetic figure.  Also her attitude towards homosexuals and AIDS, at least in the movie, was pretty ballsy for someone in her position at the time.

She's a bit of a hero to the LBGTQ community from what I've read, so I think that was accurate.

saw it last weekend.  if jessica chastain doesnt get nominated for an oscar i will be outraged.  she actually should win it.  she was fantastic.  andrew garfield was great too, but jessica stole the show.  that was as good an acting job that anyone could possibly do.
