June 12, 20214 yr I'd like to try it. I've always loved ASW and the ASG, but both events have jumped the shark in recent years. the dunk contest is a joke now, the actual game had to be changed due to player apathy, and the 3-point contest is now everyone's most highly anticipated event. i think that changing it to USA vs the World would that competitive elect back to the game, and would put some pride back on the line. i also think it would be really cool to see Team USA jerseys while letting the international players wear jerseys that are styled after their home country. i think it would add a lot of excitement and attract some more eyeballs to the game, which really shouldn't be lacking for viewers on a sunday night in february.
June 12, 20214 yr Author would love to see this lineup at some point for Team World: Luka Giannis Sabonis Jokic Embiid it would have to be biggest lineup ever assembled.

June 12, 20214 yr It's a weird matchup because most of the best big men are international guys right now while almost all of the best guards are American. The US starting 5 would be: Steph Kawhi/Harden LeBron Durant AD Big guys off the bench would get thin quickly. I mean after Zion, Bam, Randle it's like Jarret Allen and Myles Turner as a couple of the next guys up. John Collins too, maybe. But the guard/wing depth is fucking insane. You still have (not necessarily in order): Lillard Kyrie Beal Booker Mitchell CP3 Trae Young Jamal Murray (Murray is actually Canadian isn't he? Larger point remains) DeRozan Tatum Jaylen Brown Paul George Klay (if healthy) Lowry Conley Ja Morant Butler I mean the US has like 45 of the best 50 1-3s in the world (who is the 2nd best international guard or wing behind Luka? And is he better than anyone I just listed?) - but team world has like 5 of the best 8 4s and 5s. Interesting trend we're seeing right now for sure. I think answer for 2nd best international guard is either Jamal Murray or Ben Simmons. Both of whom are like fringe top 30 players in the league. And it gets really weirdly thin after that. June 12, 20214 yr Author Kyrie was born in Australia, but he probably doesn't believe in countries or nationalities so i doubt it matters.

June 12, 20214 yr For the IS, I might honestly play Bron at center. Go with:StephHardenKawhiDurantLeBronThen Lilllard, AD off the bench.

June 15, 20214 yr Bah. If Magic can go 42 and 15 while playing center to win a championship in the 80s, Bron could play it just fine in the modern game.Is Jokic really going to be able to guard LeBron on the other end of the court?
June 25, 20214 yr hell i'd like to see a 7 game series where both sides took it seriously. think that'd be awesome basketball.
October 23, 20223 yr Author bump. i still think this would be dope, and would force the game to be played competitively.
February 7, 20232 yr Author tell me you wouldn't like to see just five minutes of the All Big Euro lineup vs the USA's best counter: Luka Giannis Sabonis Jokic Embiid vs Steph KD Tatum LeBron Zion that would be so badass. Edited February 7, 20232 yr by shadow_operative
February 7, 20232 yr Is Nic Claxton the best American true 5 right now? I think he is. I mean Bam is more of a small-ball 5. The other considerations are JA, Mobley (who's more of a PF), Turner but Clax is having the best season of those guys. I mean AD I guess if he's healthy. I don't like Ja and Steph as a defensive look. I'd take Garland over Ja. Also I wouldn't play 2 pgs against that Euro lineup. Give me something like Steph/Garland, Tatum/LeBron, KD, AD/Zion, Claxton. I think you need a rim protecting 5 that can switch and play passing lanes.

April 29Apr 29 I like the concept but it's tricky because you're not going to have a 50/50 split every year.
April 30Apr 30 14 minutes ago, Dutchrudder said: It can't possibly be any worse or stupid, right? Sure, why the hell not. my no.1 thing in all of this is getting the competition back in the game. that one year (2001?) when the east made a huge 4q comeback was badass. i want to see that again. and the americans have too much pride to just fuck around and lose to the world team. the only thing that worries is me is that jokic doesn’t give a shit and i don’t see luka going very hard either. still, i’d like to think that making it usa vs the world would make these guys give a shit like all of their heroes used to.
April 30Apr 30 Hell just make it the USA vs the artist formerly known as Yugoslavia and it'd be crazy good.
May 1May 1 This I’m hype for. If it’s a tournament with a cash prize I can see players trying a bit harder.

May 1May 1 They could play all-stars from the JADES-GS-z14-0 galaxy and I doubt the players would put out much effort. Its a week off for the entire league, both those selected and those sitting at home. The entire weekend is dogshit now. 14 hours ago, I Plead Da Fif said: This I’m hype for. And the league in general already has the in-season tournament with a cash prize to try and juice some excitement in an entirely too long 82 game season, so the prize money would presumably be less for one ASG weekend than for the in season tournament. The single players probably look at the weekend as a chance to smash as many insta-hos as possible in a 72 hr window. The married players on the other hand probably look at it as a chance to smash as many insta-hos as possible in a 72 hr window.

May 1May 1 I feel like a USA vs. the World All-Star game could somehow, miraculously make the effort level even worse (barring a close game with 4 minutes left). If you don't take it seriously, and the World wins by 20, no one gives a fuck or tries to draw any conclusions/hot takes. Ain't no one going to take the risk of playing (relatively) hard and still lose.
May 1May 1 I never liked the switch away from East vs. West, and I doubt casual fans know or can understand what "Team Shaq" is. They allowed the sideshows to overtake the main event, which is why it became diluted and unwatchable. That being said, I think: US vs. Arctic Circle (Canada + Scandinavia + Baltic states) vs. The Rest of the EU (Spain, France, UK, Germany, Turkey) vs. Everyone Else (South Sudan, China, Australia, Brazil, Nigeria, Argentina, Japan) could make a pretty good mini tourney.
May 1May 1 in my mind basketball will resemble soccer in the future: nba europe, nba africa, nba asia, nba suramérica, etc. a whole bunch of top flight professional leagues all over the world whose goal is to foster homegrown talent that invariably moves up the ladder into the better leagues.
July 16Jul 16 The top 3 MVP candidates are all Team World. USA has more depth, but their best player (Tatum) is out with an achilles. The starting 5 for Team World surely has the edge when you're talking about something like SGA, Joker, Giannis, and Luka, with the 5th Team World starter being chosen from a group that includes Wemby, KAT, etc. Half of Team USA would be eligible for Team Senior Citizen---LeBron, Steph, KD, Beard... Team World heavy favorite on paper. Steph won't care in the 4th quarter though.
July 16Jul 16 Could do Western vs Eastern hemisphere. That way you move the Canadians over to make it more balanced, and in case another Manu Ginobli shows up in the future.
July 18Jul 18 North America vs the World or something like that...adjust it as you need too. Euros vs the world some years maybe.
November 15Nov 15 so it’s going to be SGA Luka Giannis Jokic Wemby vs two different teams of us stars. this is going to be a bloodbath.
