How he fits at Texas: Jones played as an off ball linebacker in his sophomore year at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, and had some pretty solid film. He was good at blitzing either the edge or inside, blowing up blockers, and creating problems with his power and length. His junior year didn’t happen and now he’s entering his senior year at 6-foot-5, 242 pounds. He’d been committed in the past to Pete Kwiatkowski at Washington but is now open to following him down south to Austin and was told “Joe Tryon” was a potential future for him, Tryon played as an X-backer at Washington. Jones is already bigger entering his senior year than Tryon was coming out of high school so he might have upside moving over to Jack as well and his strength and hands at the point of attack could give him flexibility to play either end spot. – IB

Coach Says: Strengths – Tall linebacker playing mostly off-ball on the weak side. Appears proportionate with good room to add bulk. Shows good acceleration and speed for the position. An active blitzer with good burst through the gap. Arrives at the ball with a nose for contact. Aggressively attacking blockers with good power on contact. Good in downfield coverage. Judges the ball well and makes a play at the mesh point.

Areas for Improvement/Concern: I’d really like to see this kid get his head out of the way when he tackles. Gets a bit upright on contact and can lose leverage. Not consistently breaking down on the available film. Special teams highlights are borderline. Not sure they’re legal hits. Hasn’t played football in almost two years. Pass rush is a bit raw with mostly power or speed rush on film.

6'5 242 why no DE?

He's one of those OLB/DE hybrids that PK likes

because PK's preferred base defense is a 2-4-5.

Noice.  I gotta get me a gif.

They crushed the Crystal Ball.

I guess that you can't change it after someone commits or something.

And this lady likes what she sees.

That guy is in for the ride of his life.

I can see him as an H Back in goal line as well. Flare him out to corner and have a jump ball.

OMG, Jones is an animal OLB, lol!

6’5”, 245, LB in high school? That’s big boy right there, lol. There must be some speed or he wouldn’t play LB.

Jones is the kind of 3* worth a scholarship to see what happens.
