Just for grins and future reference I looked at air fare and motels.  A cheap-o like me could stay in Bellevue for $80 a night, and pay air fare from DAL to OMA and back for about $500.  So $1217 motel + 500 air fare for the whole thing.  Is it worth it?  Hell yes! I would do that in a heartbeat.

Of course it's a lot easier to just be Nostradamus and make reservations in March, like V-77 did.

Now that we're potentially "back", I will not hesitate to book this next March.  Only thing left is tickets and getting to the ballpark.  It's probably a pretty far hike to the ballpark from Bellevue. Looks like 10.1 miles, have to wear my 2005 Rose Bowl shirt and throw up the horns while walking to hitch a ride.

I was prepared to go even if it was OU, A&M, Arkansas, Baylor, Penn State, Stalin State, Hitler U, and the Vandy Whistler were the field. Just for the experience you know?

Glad it worked out for me.

Bellevue is well south of downtown Omaha.  You're going to need motorized transportation.  Normally I wouldn't hesitate to tell you to rent a car, but rental rates are just stupid right now.  And you'll probably have a hard time finding cars available.  If all you're going to do is go up to TD Ameritrade and then hang around the bars near the ball park, i.e., you have no interest in seeing other parts of Omaha, you can probably get away with Ubering back and forth if you don't want to pay through the nose to rent a car.

Can't make next week, but I'm seriously considering heading up for the final games (June 28 -30), when we pound Stanford or Vandy or whomever.  I'm assuming you can get some better deals on hotels, tickets etc, since most fans have cleared out by then.  A cursory check shows really shitty rental car rates in Omaha, but much cheaper in KC, which isn't that far away (2.5 hours?)

Yeah, I haven't figured out why cars are so much more expensive in Omaha than KC, or even Des Moines usually. Pisses me off.

Not sure 24 hours is gonna make that big of a difference. What is with y’all and rest? Yeah obviously it’s too our guys are watching film and loosening up in the cages while our opponents are fighting for their lives, but come Sunday non of that matters. State or the Irish will be ready. Then we kick the fuck out of em

Yeah beyond pitchers it really doesn’t make any difference, and unless someone throws 120 pitches today they aren’t out for Sunday, and nobody is throwing their axe today because they went two days ago, so it’s pointless to talk about.

Buddy of mine (Sorensen) always flies into Lincoln and rents a car.

Maybe rolled ankles or whatever but yeah they’ll be rested and ready. It won’t make a fuck, but they’ll be ready. Then we introduce the Catholics or the incest group what Omaha is all about and how we do it up there

My son (will be a sophomore at UT in the fall) and I are going Saturday-Wednesday.  AA flights from Austin for about 450 each and staying at Embassy Suites downtown, less than a mile from ballpark.

Perhaps we will direct Arlingtonian demons to perform calisthenics.

No the goal is to pump iron with your demons until they pass out and then you win

Yes, he'll definitely hit better from the bench

After looking at flights and rental car prices, I've decided to drive up from H-town.  Change my mind....

Making my first trip to Omaha.  Any suggestions other than Stubhub on getting tickets to games I don't already have?

When I went in 2018  I just bought them from dudes standing outside the stadium.  I don't think I paid more than $30, and I sat close to the UT dugout both times.  I'm hoping it's the same this year.

Yeah and when he says "dudes" he doesn't mean the scalpers. We just ignored the scalpers and eventually some local would walk up with a couple of tickets, I don't remember anyone asking for over face.

this.  just wait for the locals.

In Cabo now, but should (WHEN) they make the Championship series, order for 2 has been put in. [emoji869][emoji12]

You are going to need to taxi or Uber.  You don't want to walk from the Blackstone area to TD Ameritrade.  It's a fair distance plus you'd be going through some areas that aren't the greatest.  However, it's not a long cab/Uber ride -- maybe 10 minutes or so.  Just take the Uber and forget about walking.

FYI, there's a couple pretty good dive bars in the Blackstone area on Farnam St. -- Brothers Lounge and Sullivan's.

Omaha resident here (name checks out) - agree with checking out the Blackstone area. Love me some shuffleboard at Sullivan’s

Any casino tips or things to avoid?

I prefer Harrah’s casino to Horseshoe, and I’ve never been to Ameristar. Horseshoe’s casino is bigger and fancier than Harrah’s and has a sports book area that looks like a smaller version of a Vegas sports book, but I’ve won a lot more money at Harrah’s personally. I’ve never played table games at either.

Hotel recs that are not too far of a stumble to TD? Last time we went was at Rosenblatt in 02, 04 and 05. Memory is foggy but remember 04 not being as fun...a little ragey thinking about it

I'm to the point in my decision matrix where I just looked up the drive. It's not as long of a drive as I thought.

Probably not this year though.

Question for those who have made the trip before: what is the best way to try to get tickets? Buy them in advance on the secondary market? By them shortly before each game on the secondary market? Find them outside the stadium?

I guess no one has looked, but if you just want to get in the stadium, there are still outfield seats available.

If you go to the CWS Omaha site and find the tickets section, you'll be redirected to Ticketmaster.

The seats shown include resale tickets at (currently) ridiculous prices, but if you filter out the resale tickets you can buy in the outfield now for $28 ea plus fees.

Outfield this year is not GA as in years past. Reserved seats.

After your first trip to Omaha, you'll think back to all the times you almost went and have some heavy duty regrets. At least that's how it was in my case.

I went in 2018 for the first time.  Almost every game had a rain delay, we went 2 and Q,  and I still had a great time.

First time to go for us...any parking advice?

https://www.ticketexpress.com/TD-Ameritrade-Parking

Also, Harrah's Council Bluffs casino is only 2.7 miles away and they have free parking. They may frown upon it, but I am sure you could park there and Uber to the stadium.

The stadium is also very close to the airport, and there are tons of pay lots over there.

Unless you're showing up just before first pitch, there are garages in and around the Old Market area where I parked once or twice. It's a ~1 mile hike to TDA but there are plenty of bars and shit along the way if you need to stop and have a beer.

I've only glommed on to tailgates at TDA and never parked close so not sure how the close-in parking works.

No doubt. There is plenty in the Old Market area and between there and the park. There are also quite a few more hotels and businesses on the opposite side of the park, though not sure about bars. I've stayed over there several times, but I usually get in late and go to bed.
