39 win regular season. The most in the Big 12. Disappointing compared to what we were aspiring to back in March but still a season worthy of us.

We beat some damn good teams.

We . . . didn't beat some not so good teams.

Some teams ahead of us had bad weekends. FSU got swept by UNC. Bama took 2 of 3 from Arky. UConn got swept.

Yeah that otherwise rather annoying play by play guy on the LHN who was filling in for Keith was talking about that.

So, if this was correct and it was straight RPI, we'd be the two-seed in Coral Gables.

Per D1, we'd head to Winston Salem https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi

Winning a few games in the Big 12 tournament will probably keep us out of the college station regional even if we stay a 2 seed.

If we somehow get to host, there is probably a really good chance Texas State is coming here as a 2 seed. Don’t think they will do enough to host but they will be a really strong 2 seed.

So taking DBU as an example, they are so high because they played a ton against the Big 12 midweek. So maybe #4 starters.

Then likely some overrated teams like Maryland, Southern Miss and Wofford.

And there’s the SEC of course.

It does make you wonder whether the models consider midweek games differently than weekend games. Very few teams are going to have a solid 4th guy.

Is Gonzaga still considered host-worthy? It's a long trip, but they're not exactly scary, and there might not be enough Western teams to fill up that regional, plus Stanford and Corvallis.

good point.  wonder how many times DBU threw their #1 or #2 against the #4 Big 12.   They are good so maybe they can get away with throwing others against their conf teams.

I don’t have an answer as I quickly scanned the DBU schedule. I would think DBU has solid pitching depth to compete. You’d think DBU approaches those games differently though. Might take a look once regionals are set.

Sorta like Texas State beating us mid-week and celebrating like it’s the World Series.

With the cancelling of late season games due to RPI considerations, these models should be tweaked to simply drop certain games from consideration. Something like if you’re top 25, you can drop up to 3 from teams ranked 200 or below. Not a fan of cancelling games.

Only Oklahoma State is ranked ahead of us in the RPI. That makes it pretty unlikely even winning the tournament will jump us that much. Ah well. Nothing to do but win.

Maybe some of those teams ahead of us will have shitty conference tournaments.

Looking through Georgia Southern's schedule, it doesn't exactly look like murderer's row.

The numbers are what they are, I get it.  I have to believe a few of those top 16-ish RPI teams don't stand much of a chance of hosting.  G Southern's stadium seats 3,000 -- how much extra seating could be packed in to warrant a regional?

Everybody besides DBU and Georgia Southern looks perfectly capable of hosting a regional to me.

Probably.  It still could mean some big $ school in the 18-19 range might get tapped for a regional.  Getting to that RPI is the problem.

Georgia and Vandy would be in that group too for me right now. Georgia went .500 in conference play and just lost a series to Missouri. Vandy was below .500 in conference play. Have a tough time believing either of those teams will host without doing some serious damage in the SEC tournament and even then I’m not so sure.

I just logistically capable.

But history has shown you can finish last in the SEC and still make the tournament, especially in softball. I can see some sub 0.500 SEC school getting a host over some inferior Big 12 or PAC 12 or ACC conference champion. We are all dogshit on their mighty SEC boots.

Fortunately at some point soon our farts will no longer stink either.

It's astonishing how, year after year, it seems the west coast gets underrated and the SEC gets overrated.

Not just the SEC, the ACC also. I don't know what the PAC 12 and Big West and company did to the NCAA but they will never forgive them for it.

Personally I fear the West Coast teams more than the Southeastern ones. But the Southeast makes up for it with sheer volume of schools.

Fair. I think it is an interesting discussion to look at though when looking at the top 16 RPI.

Pretty much locks to host (8): Tennessee, Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Miami, Stanford, Louisville, Southern Miss

Work to do (6): Auburn, Vandy, Georgia, Wake Forest, Virginia, North Carolina

Unlikely to host (2): DBU and Georgia Southern

So let’s say half the teams in the work to do category end up hosting. That’s 11 host spots so 5 spots left. TCU and A&M are probably getting 2 of them if we are being honest with ourselves. Notre Dame is probably in a favorable spot too so that’s another spot taken. So there’s 2 spots left left for teams like LSU, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Texas, Oregon and maybe Texas State if they roll through their conference tournament.

Should be very interesting.

5 straight, 8-1 over the last 9, who knows what happens in the Big XII tournament.  I have to believe a deep run there will check the "currrently hot" box.

I was shocked to see how fucking terrible some of the West Coast teams are this year. Check out Fullerton and SDSU RPI.

Big 12 likely gets only 2 hosts. TCU has one of those spots locked up for the most part unless they go 0-2 which could give the committee something to think about because the conference title is all they have to hang their hat on.

The last host spot comes down to Oklahoma State and Texas in terms of the two that are capable of snagging a regional without winning the tournament.

Thats why I made a previous post that it would be in Texas best interest if they got Oklahoma State game 1 of the tourney. Get the Big 12’s RPI #1 and potentially the outright champ in TCU game 2 with Pete and Lucas on the mound. If Texas wins those 2 I think they host without winning the tournament.

I get that Texas struggled to find their footing after Witt went down but last I checked the beginning of the season still matters and having a great bullpen wasn’t a requirement to host. IMO it would be criminal if Texas finished with 40+ wins, 14-10 conference record, and possibly a top 20 RPI and didn’t host.

I don’t get how we go 4-0 this past week and somehow move into a tougher regional. I understand the regionality aspect that the committee seems to love but if you are a borderline top 16 seed it doesn’t make sense that you become a 2 seed at the regional for a national seed.

CS would be a cakewalk regional.

I'd still like to win what we can in Arlington and try and host.

I like the way you think......and I totally agree with you.
