As opposed to their normal colloquial name, which is what slaves would call the mistress of the house.

I wanted to do an ironic joke about the most poorly educated state having the most difficult name to spell, but West Virginia fucked that all up.

Alabama may have a say in this one.

Transfer portal spotlight: Scouting veteran OL Cole Spencer
BLAKE BROCKERMEYER

Transfer left tackle Cole Spencer (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) is an experienced, multi-year starter with 45 starts at Western Kentucky. Despite lacking ideal Power Five size and length, Spencer is an excellent pass-protector who has the experience that will make him a very valuable portal prospect. You don’t see guys with 45 starts looking to transfer all that much, but Spencer became one of the few who fits the description upon entering the portal on February 14.

Spencer was voted first-team All-Conference USA in 2021. The 247Sports transfer rankings team has given Spencer a rating of 89. I think he’s a plug-and-play left tackle in the right college system with future NFL ability and wouldn’t be surprised if his future at the next level is as a center.

Western Kentucky in 2021 ran a high-tempo run-and-shoot type offense (and I wonder if Spencer would be following former OC Zach Kittley to Texas Tech). Spencer’s strengths are his athleticism, which he pairs with good technique and great feet. He is more of a grabber than a puncher in protection but will two-hand punch a bit against edge rushers that use their hands. Spencer does a nice job of running the edge around the corner, letting his quarterback step up in the pocket. He plays hard and plays through the end of every play.

Spencer’s weakness is there’s no proof of physicality at the point of contact because of the style of offense he’s been in. He is not a road-grader as a run blocker but does a nice job of getting his body in the right position and getting up to the second level when asked. Spencer struggles some at getting knocked back in the pocket on power rushes as he turns his shoulders a little early. Training this shoulder force is something he can improve on by training one more kick and staying square on the angle.

Overall, Spencer is a great fit and get for anyone with his experience and skills but would be best suited to play in a similar up-tempo offense. I think he will likely wind up as an offensive tackle at his next stop unless he tries to level up a few notches in competition. As I mentioned earlier, he’s a guy who could get moved to center at the NFL level.

Spencer doesn’t seem to fit the profile of what Flood is looking for.

The only profile Spencer needs to fit is being better than Christian Jones. The staff would be really fucking stupid to not go after him.

Well, I'm sure they will be stupid then. We didn't go after the Virginia guys so I don't see how this would be any different.

There's no guarantee he'd be better than Jones at what Flood wants him to do. He's also light in the ass and lacks length. Looked pretty good in the few games I skimmed through. Good mobility and fairly consistent.

He looks like what we thought Karic was, I'd be surprised if we went after him. Rather get another impact player at WR or more defensive edge help (Assuming we fill our LB and S needs)

Going into the season with Jones, Karic, and true freshmen at two OT spots seems like a fireable offense, but who knows.

Potential landing spots: Several schools quickly expressed serious interest, with Penn State leading the way. The Nittany Lions have already landed Western Kentucky transfer wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley and are a serious possibility with Spencer. Other schools to watch include UCLA, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Purdue, Florida State and Nebraska.

TCU's Khari Coleman entering transfer portal

Jeremy Clark

TCU defensive end/outside linebacker Khari Coleman has entered the NCAA transfer portal, multiple sources confirmed to HornedFrogBlitz on Tuesday.

Coleman submitted his paperwork to the school on Monday.

The junior is the second TCU defensive end to enter the portal this off-season; he joins Ochaun Mathis as players that have left the program.

A three-star prospect out of New Orleans in the 2020 recruiting class, Coleman had a breakout freshman campaign in 2020. Starting nine games, Coleman finished with 33 tackles and 15 tackles for loss which ranked second in the Big 12 and seventh in the nation. He also recorded three sacks on the year.

For his efforts, Coleman was named the Big 12 Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year.

Coleman’s production dropped in 2021. Missing the first three games due to an injury, Coleman appeared in nine games and made just four starts as Dylan Horton started to emerge in front of Coleman. Coleman finished with just 19 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. As a team, TCU ranked dead last in the Big 12 in sacks with just 15 last season.

With TCU hiring Joe Gillespie as its new defensive coordinator, Coleman’s future as a defensive end was nearing an end. Utilizing the 3-3-5 defensive scheme, Gillespie relies on bigger defensive ends. At 226-pounds, Coleman was gearing to make the transition to outside linebacker in the spring and was listed as such on the official TCU football roster.

I bet they grind right on up on that opportunity.

LSU coach Brian Kelly is dancing again, this time with Danny Lewis | TigerBait.com

He is 6'1.5" and about 225lbs and isn't great in space (ie. as a linebacker). He will need the perfect fit to succeed in college. Maybe he should go to a team that runs a defense that is similar to TCU's 2020 defense where he performed at an all american level. :)

Sounds like Ovie better get his shit together and fast.

Boyd may be right, but that's not the "obvious takeaway". It's actually a logic trap, called a conjunction fallacy, that we often fall prey to in that the more specific and detailed a choice is vs the broadest and least detailed option, lazy thinking will immediately gravitate towards to the more complicated answer. Boyd has no idea whether the staff has decided the Buck role has to be fundamentally more adept at drops in the future. He doesn't speak to anyone on the staff and they wouldn't tell someone that anyway.

The "obvious takeaway" is that Texas thinks it needs another Buck from the portal. So they're offering guys that they think can play the position. They need a body. If he's able to cover well beyond the ability to simply somehow be above replacement on the field in general, awesome. I also don't speak to the staff and can say with certainty that what I just offered up is more likely to be correct, mathematically.

More on the Conjunction Fallacy, or "The Linda Problem" is spoilered for those interested.

Spoiler

Regarding the conjunction fallacy, it's covered pretty well in a number of excellent and accessible books around why and how we make decisions, and behavioral economics. The Invisible Gorilla and Thinking Fast & Slow delve into studies that investigate it and both of those books are pretty fucking good if you're into that kind of thing.

Here's a link to a really simple breakdown of it as well:
