It would be great to add a talented edge rusher, but it needs to be the right guy for the right price. There's a bigger picture and team chemistry to consider that gets lost when we focus on one guy as a "savior".

Yeah, maybe Texas might have dodged a bullet not getting Mathis 🙄

I'm not even mad anymore, I just live in a state of numbness when it comes to our football program.

Maybe he just really hates GP.

This was my thought. Probably wants to go to the locker room at half instead of being yelled at on the sidelines first.

Occams razor or something.  He chose the school that offered more money.

Right now I'm more pissed at Tom Herman.  What a complete fuckup.  No draft picks.  5 of 26 remaining players from the 2019 recruiting class.  The last two sentences do not align with anyone that is even remotely decent at coaching.  But, hey!  He was in Mensa.

I wish we as Texas fans would stop looking for a “savior”

But I definitely agree

At this point, I'm prepared to convert to Hinduism, Shintoism, Taoism - pretty much any polytheistic religion if it gets us 85 saviors.

Kind of bizarre how well we did in the portal on offense and how shitty we did on defense.

Watts sounds like a starter so that was a good one but idk how you fail to add anyone else after last years shit show.

Maybe Sark is truly clueless on the defensive side and PK can't sell lemonade on a parched day

Tf was this guy during all this? A part of me will always believe he took the job to fuck with us. Same with that OU coach a few years ago under Strong.

Probably saying no way is Mathis  worth a 600k NIL deal.

Isn’t this just Patty playing chess.  He might want the defense to struggle again this year hence making him a more valuable proposition for the DC job in yr 3, I mean mid yr.  Tinfoil hat.

Seems like the real key to those defenses were the guy Washington chose to make HC and the guy that PK gave up his playcalling duties to.

On one hand, they landed a pretty decent transfer recruit that was a position of need for us.

On the other hand, they took Casey Thompson off our hands.

I’d call that a push.

Should have brought Jimmy Lake on board in the role we gave Fat Gary

Might have been, but it’s pretty clear now that they need each other cause both have been terrible without the other. Maybe “time heals all wounds”.

It's amazing that fans, after all these decades, continue to blame the wrong people. Getting close to 50 years and no one ever blames the corrupt administrators for this mess. It's not a surprise we didn't get him. Texas is an unorganized mess of greedy, bloated administrative failure. Capitalism as its finest. In fact, all of academia in this country is in the same boat, it's just that Texas wants to collect their athletic dollars and spend as little as possible on the kids who assist in making the money (football players). That's insane and very few other universities who think the same way. The reason it works is because the fans and alumni of this university don't hold their administrators accountable for their transgressions.

Here's a couple of links today on university corruption:

Student loan forgiveness is nice; nicer would be holding colleges accountable for the student debt crisis (msn.com)

The Fall of the Faculty: Ginsberg, Benjamin: 9780199975433: Books (amazon.com)

We were outbid, as usual. It's that simple. It happens all the time. You can't blame coaches until the administration starts giving staffs everything they need to succeed. That's never happened at Texas. Not even under Mack Brown.

Why do any of you donate to this mess? There's employees in this administration that get paid six figures to twiddle their thumbs all day.. They just keep adding more and more of their friends to the bankroll as more money comes in. It's been this way for decades and decades. It's all about adding bogus expenses so they can claim "amateurism!!!" and "student-athlete!!!". It's like rising tuition all in the name of increased power and greed. The only difference is when they raise tuition, they at least attempt to stay near the top of public education. The bloat is still wrong and needs to be corrected all across the land, but at least they are competing in academia. They don't do that at the football level. Ever.

When will the alumni step up and stop this mess? All universities do it, but most of them actually want to WIN so they make sure to stay competitive. Texas is a Title 9 apologist (not a good thing considering the law needs adjustments; as written, with 85 football players counting against the male side, it is reverse discrimination) and hates their students making money while on campus. We went through this same mess during Jim Crow. Different issue, same desired result: power and greed.

Burton saying that we were not in fact outbid, but changed our recruiting pitch over the last two weeks to ask him to play standing up a bit more instead of having his hand in the dirt every play. Soooooooo…..

That's what it or some other dipshit said yesterday. Who the fuck cares, Mathis is not the difference between a bad team and a good team and he wants to waste his time in Nebraska more power to him he can have his hand in the dirt the rest of his life.

Listen, theres a lot to be said for corn fed white girls.

Add in the freshman 15, low self esteem,  and a spanking new meth addiction, and a year at Nebraska  could be real intersesting for a young brother with 600k burning a hole in his pockets.

Question: Why has Texas sucked since 1984? A whole bunch bad coaches? The players were just so fucking talented but weren't developed?  The only short spurt of winning was during a time when the SWC got in trouble and the system had to find a new way to pay players legally. That ended by the mid-2000's.

You really think this admin cares about football? Or just the money? Disclaimer: I had two family members who worked up there from the late 1970s-1990s. It was almost comical listening to some of the admin talk about sports. Completely clueless.

You keep trying to spin this story, but the defense got worse when Lake became DC and then he tore down the program and was quickly fired as HC. Trying to say Lake is what made the defense work is just dumb. Plus PK had a lot of success before Lake was with him.

Peterson, on the hand, is more like it. PK needs a HC who handles a lot of the other stuff for him and provides support. Sark still operates too much as just an OC, which is why our abysmal defense brought back all the same coaches and only added one transfer. If Sark had been able to bring in someone like Muschamp, who doesn’t need any help to run the defense, things would probably be going differently, but Sark couldn’t bring him in and didn’t recognize he needed a DC who could operate everything on his own so here we are.

I am an idiot behind a keyboard, but even I am not dumb enough to see the breadcrumbs in the Mathis recruitment. He visits Nebraska, they push for him to shut it down, he doesn't, and then he visits Texas TWO consecutive weekends including an official visit last weekend. He has been to Texas 3 times and Nebraska once. Unless he's clingy and it takes 3 trips to tell Gary Patterson goodbye, how could you confidently say as a Nebraska Writer that you have all your data points and there is a "70% chance they get Mathis".

This is like when Oklahoma hired Jay Valai and he was going to get their foot in the door for Devon Campbell!!!! Valai attended one of his basketball games!!!! OU 247 is feeling confident!
