One of CDC’s first things was to consolidate the T&F programs under one coach

No wonder he's celebrating that we eked out a last-second Cup win.

i don't know much at all about our T&F facilities, but I hear we're lagging behind some other schools. Someone fill me in.

On an other note, how nice would it have been to have at least one of Texas State's high jumpers in burnt orange? The Bobcats had only three guys in Eugene and still finished 10 spots ahead of our men. Embarrassing.

You've gone from they'll be average to not winning a NC is underachieving in 3 posts.  You've paid attention to women's track for all of 3 hours in your life.  Shut the fuck up.

He’s got a very good track record and won the women’s title here just a year or two ago. It’s a down cycle- they happen.

Its not going to be a down cycle long for the womens side. 16 points were scored this year by underclassmen and then a couple more underclassmen sprinters who made the NCAA championships.

Appears we are lagging behind on facilities, coaches, and support staff compared to the other top programs above.

It’s wild that Coach Flo is the head coach of Track and Field + Cross Country, but that means he’s directly responsible for 6 of our possible 21 NCAA team national championships every year.

Men’s XC
Women’s XC
Men’s indoor track
Women’s indoor track
Men’s outdoor track
Women’s outdoor track

Coach Flo is the head coach of all the above making him the most important coach in UT athletics from a Directors Cup perspective. Would it be worth exploring getting a different coach for the men’s team and letting Flo focus on the women? Maybe bring in a dedicated coach for XC?

I don't agree that he is the most important, since we don't ever get shit from XC and got little from Track and still won the cup.

I'd say there is a lot of potential to add significant value that hasn't been there before.

Sure but all other teams also have that

I doubt it. I don't think every school is going to fund scholarships to the same extent Texas will. The are probably some traditional T&F powers that won't be able to.

The traditional powers in T&F are Arkansas, Florida, Aggie, Georgia, USC, Oregon

There’s no reason to hire a different coach for men’s vs women's. It’s proven you can win by having 1 coach for both. It works for some programs, and for others having 2 different coaches works, although having 2 different coaches for men’s and women’s is dying. More and more programs are doing 1 coach for both. UGA women won the NC this year in women’s and their men finished 45th yet Caryl Smith-Gilbert is the HC for both. A&M men have been better than their women the last decade or so as their women haven’t won an outdoor NC since 2014 and Henry coaches both.

The blue bloods in indoor are LSU (w) and Arkansas (m)

The blue bloods in outdoor are LSU (w) and USC/Arkansas (m)

I’m not sure when Henry is going to hang it up (he’s 73) but A&M could cement itself as a modern blue bloods in track with a few more titles. What he’s done there is crazy amazing.

There’s a direct correlation to the rise of A&M with Henry and our semi-suckage, although I’d ague we were underwhelming and underperforming when Bubba was the HC because he only cared about specialty events. Texas rarely had sprinters. After sleeping on it, I am going to backtrack on my previous post about Flo. what Flo has done since he arrived has been great. This just happened to be one of those years.

A snapshot in time of almost losing a director’s cup that is awesome to win but nobody cares about shouldn’t be the leading thought as to why a successful coach should be fired.

According to this AAS article, Texas plans to offer 45 scholarships in Women's track, but only 35 in men's track.  https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/2025/02/27/texas-announces-plan-to-add-200-scholarships-after-ncaa-settlement/80584799007/

According to this article, A&M plans to offer "45 full or partial scholarships per program, which matches the new roster limit enforced by the House settlement."  https://www.kbtx.com/2025/06/16/texas-am-track-will-defend-national-title-with-more-than-30-additional-scholarships/

Unless A&M is going to load up on partial scholarships and all of ours are full scholarships, it seems like we are going to be at a disadvantage in Men's T&F.

Yup....we will offer fewer scholarships and have fewer coaches and support staff than all the top programs. Flo doesn't appear to be trending well for us moving forward and I expect our men to continue to be ass while women continue to be average.

The women are not going to be average next year. Theyre going to be in contention for a national title.

We'll see...

They returning 16 points scored by underclassmen this year who will all likely improve. Then a couple more underclassmen that made the NCAA championships in sprints that didn't score. Then Bayleigh Minor is coming who is the top recruit. They are not going to be average. Top 3 team with national championship upside.

And if they don't achieve that then it's a massive failure.

I just don't think they'll be top 3 or potentially win a title. Is what it is...But if that's the expectation that guy is setting then if they don't achieve those it is failure.

No one gives a fuck what you think about women's T&F for 2026. You don't know anything more about it than the rest of us. They're not far removed from a national title and they're expected to be competing for another one next year. "Competing" doesn't mean win it or it's a failed season, doofus. Your entitled title-ism is tiresome on every board in which you post.

Titles are the ultimate goal of sports especially at the collegiate level. It's funny you try to call me out for entitled title-ism when you had this post not too long ago:

I want titles. Everyone cheering for a team or program wants that. That isn't title-ism. Title-ism is the premise of demanding titles and then claiming program or team failure when a title isn't achieved every single season. I invented the term for a special form of idiotic fan who cannot be happy and is insufferable about it for those around them. I came up with it for one my brothers, and you embody the same bullshit on this site.

Except, not at all. Especially in the Director's Cup thread.

Been amazed at some of his posts but never followed him before. Does he not know the top 2 sprinters in this years recruiting class are coming to Texas? If Elise Cooper makes it to campus Texas will be competing for a championship. I believe shes already run the 2nd fastest 200 and 3rd fastest 300 in US high school history. Puma has already signed her out of HS.

No. He definitely doesn’t. And I’m sure most posters here don’t either. Otherwise, BO&W and The_Great_Hornsby show up and talk shit about all types of stuff to do with non-revenue sports during postseason runs or big games, routinely get dunked on or proven wrong (just as TGH did with the softball national title), don’t learn a damn thing, and the cycle repeats.

We won't win a title next year in womens...even if they perform well the men are fucking struggling and look like shit period.

Elise Cooper ran a 22.44 200m at nationals this weekend which would have finished 4th at the college outdoor championships. She could win the 200m and 400m in year 1 at Texas. Shes the next Alfred.
