  • You've gone from they'll be average to not winning a NC is underachieving in 3 posts.  You've paid attention to women's track for all of 3 hours in your life.  Shut the fuck up.

Sec track is far better than big 12

Men were #2 at Nationals as recently as 2022

Women #2 in 2022, #1 in 2023, #3 last year

In those years, it wouldn't have mattered what conference we were in, we were among the best in the country.

2022 was Texas' best chance in decades to win their first outdoor national title in mens T&F, but they underperformed in several events and Florida ended up taking it. Hopefully coach Flo can get them in position to win it all again some day.

Wtf is wrong with our T&F programs?

Our RBS, WRs and DBs aren't competing. Seriously, it's ironic how we're now the speed school in football but not in track.

If Texas wants to compete for the Director's Cup in the future, T&F is pretty important. Does anyone have any insight on if this is truly a rebuilding year, and we have good recruits coming etc? For both teams to suddenly drop off like this is a bit jarring.

And we won't be top 8 in beach either.

About that...

I'm aware.

The beach team has already over performed this season. Preseason expectation was to maybe sneak into the NCAA tournament, but now we could actually be a high seed and make a run.

MBB and volleyball dragged us down. Volleyball is usually good for making at least the Elite 8 and we didn’t

Future meaning - the end of this semester?

If we are going to hit that projected total, it’s going to be a great spring because that means that golf, softball, baseball, and women’s basketball haven’t underperformed and either won national championships or got to the finals.

I'm hopeful that outdoor T&F performs at a higher level than indoor did - which should help with some additional points.

As our baseball team moved up the rankings our projected points increased. However, the projected points maybe too optimistic. As the #1 baseball team, if we don’t end up winning the CWS, then we drop points compared to the projected total.

Crazy how the standings can swing so much in such a short period of time.

Stanford is 49th in RPI but is 6-15 in ACC play (in 15th of 16 teams) and 19-17 overall. They have Wake (RPI 26), @BC (RPI 50), and @NCST (RPI 33) left in conference, as well as a series against Grand Canyon (RPI 64). Plenty of room to secure good wins, but I doubt it happens. They likely miss the tournament.

Feel free to check my math but I looked at last year's Top 20 and compared how they did at the end of the Winter rankings compared to same time last year. I also included 4 outliers: teams that are currently in the top 10 but didn't finish in the top 10 last year to get a sense of if they are outliers or if they are just fall/winter heavy:

Softball needs to get to OKC. They've been playing the last 3 weeks like a team that could disappoint and cost us the cup.

A 3rd place regular season finish by @TexasSoftball means that the @TexasLonghorns have now mathematically clinched the SEC All Sports Trophy. Worst possible finishes by Texas and 1st place finishes by Tenn would not be enough for the Volunteers to overcome the Longhorns.

#337

I wonder if the SEC will start to recognize the All Sports trophy again now that it's become competitive in the last 5 years.

Looks like UNCs 10rh seeded men's tennis team missed the cut at regionals today. (Stanford and USC missed the cut as well but they were not seeded highly). This should drop their projected finish a bit.

Texas slid a bit in rowing, baseball, softball but still holds a 50 point edge. If they hit their projection, no team can catch them even with their best case scenario score. Texas' score could be much higher or lower than projected with many sports still active.Breakdown in 🧵

Men’s golf handles business yesterday at regionals and will advance to the championship site. Women’s golf national championship rounds begin tomorrow. Goal is to make the knockout rounds (top 8 )

Last day of upcoming tournaments that will affect the projected top 4 shown above

Baseball 6/23, Women's golf 5/21, Men's golf 5/28, Women's lacrosse 5/25, Women's rowing 6/1, Softball 6/6, Women's tennis 5/18, Men's tennis 5/18, Track and field 6/14

In my opinion, for purposes of these projected totals, it's better to go into a tournament and outperform your projection.  If you're #1 like North Carolina lacrosse or USC track and don't win, then you lose points compared to your projection.

Tonight’s clinching of outright regular season @SEC Championship for @TexasBaseball makes it 9️⃣ conference titles for our Longhorns this year ➡️ 8️⃣ SEC (Baseball, @TexasWBB, @TexasRowing, @TexasSoccer, @TexasMSD, @TexasWSD & @TexasMTN x2) & @TexasBeachVB CCSA🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🤘🏻

Good thing the Big 12 got Texas ready for the SEC.

That or they were going to win those titles regardless of the conference.

Men’s tennis moves into the semis earning 10 more points and also matching their expected points. If they make the finals they will score either 7 or 17 additional points.

#346
Stanford's Men Tennis unable to pull the upset over #1 Wake Forest. They score 83 pts as expected but it shaves 17 points off of their max possible score, now 1251.5.UNC Softball goes 0-2 in their regional and the chance to add 10 points to UNC's max score is gone, now 1241.75. https://t.co/lcn6st4ngH

#347

I don’t know if it would have made a difference in the standings, but the Aggies losing the regionals gave Stanford a path to the CWS and scoring more Directors points. But a walkoff homer sent Stanford home, so I’m sure their maximum points just went down.

#348

#1 Stanford loses to Northwestern in women’s golf in above upset, losing 10 points off their maximum and expected score. Perhaps USC becomes our biggest threat.

Texas athletics officially ends the 2024-25 athletic season with a 123-49 (0.715) overall record vs. SEC opponents across all sports. Not bad for their first year!#ThisIsTexas #HookEm#ItJustMeansHorns 🤘🏽

Anything but 2 and Q meets our projected points - and even that only knocks 5 points off the projection

The @TexasSoftball team advances to the WCWS and that secures 73 points in the directors’ cup. The projected score is 78 points (1 win at the WCWS) for the 6 seeded horns. https://t.co/klmoE0Valw
