Feels like we aren’t dropping too many expected points in the remaining sports, with baseball the one big one left to see.

You've gone from they'll be average to not winning a NC is underachieving in 3 posts.  You've paid attention to women's track for all of 3 hours in your life.  Shut the fuck up.

Northwestern and UNC are playing for the womens Lacrosse national championship right now. Northwestern just won the womens golf chip last week, but I think we still want NW to win it.

Rowing got absolutely thumped by Stanford in Austin and barely squeaked by Tennessee in the SEC championships, so it will be interesting to see if they can hold the #2 spot at nationals.  Will still get plenty of points but could drop a few there.

Looking at what's left to score and how we are doing, Florida has a real possibility of finishing outside the top 10 for the first time.

We were in a risky position this time last year too but Softball, Baseball, Lacrosse, and Track all came through at the end to net us lots of points.

At this point Lacrosse and Softball did/are doing what they need to do but I don't see track bringing in the points they did last year.

Baseball team could overperform and get y'all some points. They're in the Coastal Carolina regional, so they have a real shot to make it to the Supers and earn some extra points above projection.

Then matched up with the Auburn regional for a shot at the CWS

Yes, but baseball overperformed last year too and got us 83 points.

Odds are that Florida finishes in the 5-10 range but there isn't much room for error.

Florida's worst finish was 9th in 1989.

I know this sounds spoiled, but it kind of sucks that it looks like Texas will only win one national title this season in college sports. A whole bunch of top 4-8 finishes is a nice consolation prize, but here’s to more titles in the 2025/2026 cycle.

Baseball and softball still have a chance. Jumping the shark a bit.

Eh, no. If you’re going to attempt to correct someone, don’t be that much of a fuck up. It’s jumping the gun. Jumping the shark is a reference to a popular something or other taking things too far into absurdity and losing its audience/impact. Jesus.

Also, no shit softball and baseball are still playing? So are rowing and both gender T&F. 1 national championship for this season will be won.

Yeah I realized I said jumping the shark instead of jumping the gun abut two seconds after I posted and didnt bother to edit it. Shouldve known with your insufferable ass you would make the whole post about that. Jesus christ you are a miserable prick.

Not miserable. I’d have to be a perpetually wrong buffoon to qualify as miserable. You should know well enough.

So it looks like Baseball will be the swing sport?  I guess we’re fucked. Unbelievable.

I'm not giving up on either baseball or softball, although I sensed impending doom for softball all the way up to Kavan's final strikeout yesterday. OU is still the team to beat, but if the Horns can pull that off, it will be glorious. Feeling better about them now than the baseball team.

The UTSA loss last night is a head-scratcher. Today is suddenly more interesting in an annoying way, and I'm still looking for full projections on the cup, which is even more annoying. I'm guessing the Horns get it together, but they've been living on the edge way too much the last few weeks.

Also learned that "Happy Days" and the Fonz are the reason we say "jumping the shark." I'm gonna throw that term out for further deliberation at this afternoon's happy hour, where we regularly jump the shark in our attempts to entertain ourselves. No surprise for a bunch of opinionated guys with a cooler of beer.

The good part is we wouldn’t see them until the finals. There’s 3 chances for them to be beaten before then by Oregon and/or Tech twice.

Does anybody remember jumptheshark.com? (Title of Reddit post about the defunct website, where folks went to discuss pop culture's shark-jumping absurdities.)

It seems that site was bought by TV Guide ... so if you type in jumptheshark.com, it now takes you straight to TV Guide.

Glad I missed that site. And just to keep this thread from derailing further -- I came here to figure out what's going on with the Director's Cup -- here's a link back to Texassports.com and today's schedule, which is what I usually visit when I'm having issues getting YouTube or ESPN+ to start my Longhorn baseball or softball games properly.  Ready for some baseball and cup drama.

I will sacrifice our baseball team in the regional at the altar of the Temple of Gozer(bat and ball god) for a softball NC this year.

I’m sorry, but what in the fuck does Dana Barrett’s refrigerator have to do with college athletics?

Well he would have said the bedroom but nothing ever happened in there.

What does that projection have for softball? Top 4 since we're already in the semis?

So softball can increase the projection if we make the final?

Come on Oregon State!

Great news: OSU won 14-1 last night to force a deciding Game 7 today. But we're still leaving it to Beaver(s).

What does softball making the WCWS Championship do for the directors cup?

The extra 7 points minimum would be the decider if USC advances to supers but not make OKC? We'd probably need the extra 10 points for winning it all to stave them off

Could we also overperform in outdoor T&F next week?

The updated T&F rankings come out tomorrow based on the pre-NCAA qualifying meets held last weekend.  I think this guy's scoring is reflective of the rankings from the prior week so we'll see what the rankings look like tomorrow.

Also - do we know if the scoring number for Texas is using points for a runner-up finish in the WCWS or is he using total max points for winning?  Hope it's the former.

Yeah we have secured 90 points minimum, with a possible 100 if we win it all

Almost certain it’s the former. Winning it all would be more

That’s the plus or minus of being a highly ranked team before the competition. You’re expected to win a lot of points, but could score less than the projection. I think USC’s track teams are 1 and 4. So if that team doesn’t win the championship, they underperform.

Beavers up 1-0 on USC

Now 4-0 in the 4th.

OSU saves our bacon and finishes off USC 9-0. TCU could have helped our cause by beating USC in the first game, but they got blasted.
