Fun fact-that girl never got another acting job ever again after that scene was released.  CANCEL CULTURE, AHHHH!

Actually, her parents and her decided she should retire and focus on school.  Which is a shame because her timing in that scene was maybe the best in the movie and that's saying something.

We've discussed it before but the reason that movie is so funny is because they took a bunch of non-comedic actors and had them just deadpan a rather unfunny script.  So many actors went on to become known for their funny roles, but at the time of filming---almost none of them had ever done comedies.  Kareem Abdul Jabbar had more comic acting credits to his name than Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, and Peter Graves combined.  Barbara Billingsley is a perfect encapsulation of this effect.  They take a beloved 50's show mom, give her something rather bizarre to say that's not funny on the surface, but she nails the scene because she's not trained to be funny.  I mean, they got freakin' Ethel Merman to be in the movie and they were completely unknown movie makers at that point.

How that movie ever got made with the basic pitching being, "We're gonna do Zero Hour, but funny.  But with no funny people and very racially offensive."

40 years later, I still it's one of the 5 funniest films ever made.
