Sir Richard set to take off from Spaceport America in 15 minutes. The only reason he's launching today is to beat Bezos. I like it.

Not that I know of. Strictly tourism. They're starting to taxi.

Virgin galactic is interesting but do they have any plans beyond tourist flights?

Well hopefully they'll offer space flights with galactic virgins at some point.

Beats the dweebs narrating this NASA feed I linked.

Agree.  I miss Miles OBrien as the main space tech reporter.

Virgin's live stream just starting...missed the take off...

Are the NASA nerds mentioning the celebs in attendance and DJ Khalid performing later?

I think Elon can be nutty at times but he’s smart enough to stay away from the early flights. I don’t get Bezos and Branson wanting to go first for what will eventually be a forgotten flight(s).

Sure for who goes second…but first is a big deal.

This Colbert thing on the VG feed is a fucking beating.

You just can’t fly into space anymore.  Seems one has to get celebrity tie-ins and achieve media friendly backing.

Ask a non-space nerd who flew the first shuttle mission?  I bet that a sizable number of NASA employees can’t name them.

Branson is first and foremost a marketing guy. He’s not a tech, science or even solution guy like bezos or Elon. Branson isn’t going to let this event go with more emphasis on selling the next tickets.

Cool video letter from Branson to his Mom.

Kristin Fisher's parents were astronauts.  Pretty cool.  She is smoke.

So much masturbation on the VG stream that even I'm embarrassed

CNN can be such a fucking downer sometimes…

I don’t know, I think it’s fair for them to offer criticism that the media is kept an arms distance away from the private space race unlike how they were brought into NASA. Now perhaps these companies don’t like the ongoing coverage but then they can’t have it their way when they want free rah rah coverage to sell tickets.

Agree. If cnn can’t get a non-delayed visual feed, you gotta stop the live commentary.

Cool event but VG did a bad job of shutting CNN out of closer-to-live coverage.  I have to assume that isn’t a technical glitch but by design.

Why no video feed from the pilots’ POV?

Kinda got tired of the constant close up of Branson’s jacked up Brit chiclets.
