July 12, 20214 yr Popular Post I saw a strange thing today. A rebel was being arrested by the military police. And rather than be taken alive he exploded a grenade he had hidden in his jacket. He killed himself and took a captain of the command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren't. What does that tell you? They can win

July 12, 20214 yr Author Just checking back with Fox News and CNN. Nada. It’s like the Weather Channel on a Saturday or Sunday, when there is a tornado outbreak across the plains, or a Hurricane approaching Texas, and they are showing “Storm Stories.” Jeez

July 12, 20214 yr Popular Post Also, we should have her covering what's going on there (I know she's not Cuban, but I do not apologize).
July 12, 20214 yr Unfortunately, it looks like the heat wave and Haiti are some of the big stories, and they are drowning out this coverage. Most likely the media is not doing much, because A) they have little in the way of people on the ground there, and no way of getting much, if any out (they media they have on the ground, such as the AP photog, were apparently there for the recent tropical storm/hurricane). B) they are waiting to see if this fizzles out. C) Everything going on is in Spanish There's a shit-ton of stuff on YT if you are a Spanish speaker: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cuba&sp=EgIIAg%3D%3D

The movie clip I posted above had lots of other stuff, but it was the only thing that I could find that included that dialogue.

The Havana Capitol building was built on land that was a railroad terminal and used to belong to the Villanueva Railway. The project began on April 1926, during the Gerardo Machado administration. Construction was overseen by the U.S. firm of Purdy and Henderson. Prior to the Cuban Revolution of 1959, the Congress was housed in the building, the Congress was abolished and disbanded following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the building fell into disrepair. "El Capitolio" has a size of 681 by 300 ft. Although its design is often compared to the United States Capitol, it is not a replica.[1] "It is similar to that in Washington D.C, but a meter higher, a meter wider, and a meter longer, as well as much richer in detail. To finish its construction they needed more than 5000 workers, 3 years, 3 months and 20 days; as well as approximately 17 million American dollars".[2] Completed in 1929, it was the tallest building in Havana until the 1950s. It houses the world's third largest indoor statue.

July 12, 20214 yr It’s late night on a Sunday. Who has cameras and reporters on the ground? Jesus, the need for instant gratification can be kind of pathetic. MSNBC has something that sort of looks like Dateline. Boring, couldn’t watch more than a minute. NBC has 1st Look talking about bears. That looked pretty cool. ABC and CBS have nothing. The local Fox affiliate is running reruns of Two and a Half Men. I’m interested but I’m also patient. ‘Eeww, this should be a much bigger story!’ Go to bed and see what we hear tomorrow. Instant reporting is often wrong anyway.

July 12, 20214 yr We all know the real power behind the Cuban govt. it's Vegas. if casinos, and gambling ever make it back to Cuba on a scale rivaling Vegas, it's dead. who wouldn't choose a beautiful Carribean island 50 miles offshore over that sweltering sand box in the middle of nowhere ?
July 12, 20214 yr So what’s the status of the Cuban people? I’m guessing they’ve been disarmed for a while? Are they going to pull this off with bats and balls?

It’s a crazy impressive setup. that said, they can’t win against the armed forces. Their own hope is to win the hearts/minds of the military over. what’s interesting is that the way their armed forces are setup is that if you don’t score high enough on testing when leaving high school you are drafted. So EVERYONE has close family members in the military. Hopefully this will keep the army from openly firing on protesters. Hell, most of them hate the government as well due to all the open corruption (even in small towns you see brand new amg benzos with government plates). the secret police is another thing though. Those fuckers are mean.

CHIEF Yeah, tourist dollars from Europe were very limited due to COVID. Supplies from communist countries were limited due to COVID also. Then Venezuela is a mess and isn't helping. And I assume Trump ended the Obama travel and trade agreements and Biden hasn't reversed them yet. So, money isn't flowing in and Cuba doesn't produce a hell of a lot for export.
