Texas Women's Basketball 2021-2022 - "Vic's Got It Going!!"

On the 3-seed line in today’s bracketology. I’d say a win over Arizona on Sunday would bump us into the 2-seed convo.

Princeton is a next four out team currently. Still won’t be an easy game.

A long way to go but would really like to get those next two games on the road. Worried we may be rusty after a week off but maybe we'll get Moore and King-Hawea back.

Didn't find a recruiting thread for Coach Vic, so here it is. This is a very good pick up for Coach Vic, Sammie has been courted by L$U and U$C all season (My daughter is part of Reagan's girls b

  • She won't play.  She's rehabbing an ACL injury.  She wasn't going to play her senior year at CP regardless, but now she gets an extra semester of Texas Athletics medical care and rehab.  Smart play, b

We should already be on the 2 seed line. #5 in NET with quality wins on the road.

If the season ended today I bet we would be a 2.

• SERIES: 4th  meeting, Texas leads 2-1

Notables:

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Sunday's matchup with the Wildcats will mark the third time the Longhorns have played on ESPN this season which is tied for the most in country with Louisville. UT's other appearances on the network's flagship station have come in a 61-56 victory at No. 3 Stanford (Nov.14) and a 74-70 overtime loss at No. 16 Tennessee.

MATHARU MANIA: Junior transfer Aliyah Matharu continues to turn heads in her first season on The 40 Acres. The Washington D.C. native leads the team in scoring averaging 15.8 points per game. She also ranks No.4 in the Big 12 and in three-point field goal percentage shooting it at a 44.7 percent clip.

HARMON HITS: Freshman point guard Rori Harmon continues post some impressive numbers in her first season in the Burnt Orange and White. The Houston native enters play leading the Big 12 in assists per game at 6.1 which is good for No.10 in the NCAA and No.2 among NCAA division I freshman. She also leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio (3.21) which ranks No.11 nationally and No.1 among all freshman.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Arizona has picked up right where they left off in 2020-21 as they've followed up their National Championship appearance with a 10-0 start to the season. The Wildcats are coming off an 82-55 victory over Northern Arizona on Friday. Much like Longhorns, Arizona is known for their stifling defense and full court pressure. They lead the PAC 12 and rank No. 7 in the NCAA in scoring defense holding opponents to 49.1 points per game.

Cate Reese paces the Wildcats offensively averaging 13.1 points per game. She also leads the team on the glass averaging 5.9 boards per game.

NEXT: Following Sunday's matchup in the desert, UT will hit the east coast for a matchup with perennial Ivy League power on Wednesday (11 a.m. CT. ESPN+). The Tigers are out 7-3 start to their season were voted to finish No. 1 in the Ivy League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Texas will close out the 2021 portion of their schedule on Dec.29 as they play host to Alcorn State (7 p.m. CT, LHN)

This one is going to be a challenge.

Barnes is who aggy should go after.

I can’t see her leaving her Alma mater to play against Vic, Dawn, Mulkey, Harris, Taylor, etc.  Pac 12 is easier to win.

I don't think she's set on staying at Arizona even with it being her alma mater. Sounds like Barnes would have taken the Texas job if offered.

Not that it matters because it looks like aggy is going to make an internal hire.

I regret to announce Texas vs Arizona game tomorrow is canceled. Arizona had two positive tests. Announcement should be happening soon

Well that blows.

Well UNLV played today at home and their next game is Tuesday at home, so they're around and available. Doubt they want to squeeze another game in there, but for ESPN publicity maybe so.

#68 in the NET. Certainly not Arizona but a top 75 opponent on a neutral court is a good replacement

Good on USD. Enjoy the tv time. Don’t beat us.

Props to their coach for taking on the challenge of a Sweet 16/Elite 8 type team and a ball pressure defensive team with less than 24 hour notice.  Makes your team better

7-3

Wins over Hawaii, Idaho, AF, Fresno, SDSU, CSUN, UCI

Lost to UW by 6, Nebbie by 8 and ASU by 19

Average 66 ppg and allow 59.4. Shoot 42% overall and 35% from three but only hit 64% of their FT. Only outrebounding their opponents by 0.7 per game and average 19 TO per game. Texas is a BAD matchup for a sloppy ball handling team like USD

Texas by far the best team on their schedule

Excellent. Thanks.

Let's go horns.

14-12 Texas after 1

I expected us to be rusty. Been over a week since we played a game. That's why we really needed a game before Princeton.

Schaefer experimenting with some lineups in this game.

Lattimore, King-Hawea, and Ebo all playing together right now. I bet we haven't played this lineup all year.

Schaefer is being generous with minutes today.

Holle and Masudi on the court together in the first half?

These slow starts are going to bite us in the ass eventually.

We’ve played 1 min so far with Harmon. 2 fouls already. We look like a team who played 19/20 min without her

34-24 Texas at half

Very interesting rotations that half.

Harmon was in foul trouble but Harmon, Gaston, and Hunter hardly played. Maybe Schaefer is trying to get other players some real minutes?

Yeah weird rotations. Gaston has two fouls as well but not Hunter. Lattimore justifying the minutes.

Ebo should not play unless a team shows the ability to beat us inside. Her mobility is truly awful.

USD with like 7 fouls in the first 1:30 of the 4th quarter.

This has been a poorly officiated game both ways. You don't have to call every touch a foul.

Aaand down goes Harmon. 7 minutes.

Princeton up next. Probably still going to be a tough game on the road but they've struggled a bit recently.

Game ball Matharu.

Some crap outlet passes without Rori on the floor.

Gaston and Lattimore good games.

Sstrange game for all involved, big thanks to SD for showing up, could have been a wasted trip.

I’m surprised Matharu isn’t an every day starter for us

Our bench is more talented than our starters right now.

Lattimore > Ebo by a lot.

Hunter and Matharu > Allen-Taylor and Warren.

Seems like Schaefer is trying to keep some experience in the starting lineup.

That game was the epitome of Rori foul trouble + scouting/practicing for one team and having to play someone else with no prep

That and Texas hadn’t played in over a week. That’s why Texas was trying everything they could to find somebody to play. It had already been 8 days since our last game.

Classy
