So....which one did the hitting, the semi or the box truck?  Because....the box truck is out front.  Honestly, I'm diagraming that scene in my head, and I can't make sense of it.  Wrecked vehicles on both sides of the road, flanking the semi....but stuff wrecked in front of it.  Or maybe the emergency crews moved vehicles all around for access already.

The semi that caused the crash is at the top next to the wrecker truck with crane.

Oh.

Fuck.

Although I still don't understand how there are wrecked cars on both sides of the semi at the bottom.

A loaded semi and trailer can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. My F150 crew can weighs 7,000 pounds for comparison. Even if the trailer was empty it would still be around 35,000 in weight for the tractor and trailer. After that it's physics.

Oh, I get the bowling pin effect.  I just don't get the layout at the bottom -- there's a white semi in between the wrecked cars.  And there are wrecked cars behind it.  If the wrecking ball semi came through and scattered those cars, that makes sense.  But how did what looks to be another intact truck end up between them all?

An article I read sounded like it was a single fatality in 5 different vehicles.

That seems extremely improbable but I guess it could happen.

I don't know, but that company is probably pissed because their name has shown up in pictures more than the company that caused it.

Oh, and awesome.  The truck driver's name is Solomun Weldekeal Araya.  He ain't no real 'murican.
So, this story is 100% going to become one of how a dirty immigrant killed 5 people......and 0% about how Amazon and Bezos privatize all gains and by using contractors for everything (with all of said contractors being LLC shells with no assets and the bare minimum insurance required by very generous laws passed by lawmakers owned by industry), but socialize the losses of multiple ended/ruined lives.
That'll be a real nice topper to this awful story.  It will be an excuse to further demonize and punish "the other," but in no way will it be used to even SUGGEST corporate accountability.

Dont worry. He’s on the motherfucker!

I know, let the courts decide, but what kind of idiot would get behind the wheel of a semi after drinking?  It's just infuriating.  At least in the old days (and probably now) they were only on meth, if anything.

Wasn't alcohol, but allegedly other types of "central nervous system depressants"

https://www.kvue.com/article/news/crime/austin-crash-i35-driver-failed-sobriety-test-drugs-responsible-affidavit-solomun-araya/269-b2ae3db3-87ee-4b14-8e9c-a0bc562d79dc

According to police, Araya showed signs of intoxication following the crash. The affidavit states Araya had bloodshot and watery eyes, mumbled speech and swayed while walking and turning, consistent with signs of central nervous system depressants.

A preliminary breathalyzer exam showed Araya had a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.00, however, Araya still showed "all six" signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety exam.

Some warning shot.

Doesn't matter how big a dick someone is on the road just keep looking forward with your hands on the fucking wheel. Shit can get sideways, easily.

I don't know, maybe turn the camera off...

The 37-acre homeless camp monstrosity at Montopois and Ben White is getting (compassionately) shut down by the city because it's a "high wildfire issue".  It's been a chamber of commerce landmark for awhile now so who knows what will really become of it.

At some point voters should decide whether public camping is allowed in the city. Unlikely to happen but who knows.

Honestly surprised that type shit doesn’t happen more often.

Another major traffic incident involving an accident with a several mile backup on NB 35.  I'll give you a guess where on 35.

In case you can't handle the suspense.

I think it may have been a bad idea to create a miles long death zone with concrete walls on the NAFTA highway where 1000s of 18 wheelers travel daily.

Speaking of....................................

https://www.kxan.com/news/texas/could-i-35-in-austin-be-named-after-president-trump/

You’ve heard of Trump Tower, but what about the President Donald J. Trump Highway?

That’s the proposed designated name for Interstate 35 in Travis County, according to a new bill filed Friday by Texas Rep. Joanne Shofner (R-Nacogdoches). The bill outlines the design and construction of markets “indicating the designation as the President Donald J. Trump Highway” alongside any other existing designations.

The proposed legislation also calls for the addition of markers at each end of the highway as well as “at appropriate intermediate sites” within the corridor.

I'm quickly learning to be wary of trauma counselors.

"Shofner is a trained Christian life coach who seeks to empower women in recovery from traumatic experiences."

Sounds like an excellent plan to spend thousands of dollars cleaning up graffiti regularly.

And piss and shit on the lower deck. Of course, upgrading vandalism to a terroristic act might deter a few.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some people living in north Austin said they have concerns about the environmental impact of a cremation business nearby. Neighbors living next to Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services said they’ve seen multiple instances of black smoke coming from there. Stephanie Edmison lives right behind the business. Edmison told KXAN that she started seeing the smoke at the start of 2023.

Edmison said she and other neighbors have health and environmental concerns.

“Even when there’s no black smoke, you can still smell it,” Edmison said. “Which is not pleasant.”

That funeral home is just off Balcones Drive behind the Chez Zee restaurant.

Late one evening about 20 years ago we were driving home to the Brushy Creek neighborhood west of Round Rock on 620 and suddenly went through a cloud of heavy dark smoke blowing northwards across the road. It was a very unpleasant experience.
The smoke was pouring out of the stack at the Beck funeral home. Until then we were not aware the place had a crematorium.
Since then a dense residential neighborhood has been built right next to it.

That's appropriate as the average Chez Zee customer is old enough to need a funeral home soon.
