I crunched the numbers and I get this:

Alabama - Auburn, LSU, Tennessee

Arkansas - Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas

Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt

Florida - Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee

Georgia - Auburn, Florida, South Carolina

Kentucky - Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina

LSU - Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M

Mississippi State - Kentucky, Ole Miss, Texas A&M

Missouri - Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma

Oklahoma - Arkansas, Missouri, Texas

Ole Miss - LSU, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt

South Carolina - Florida, Georgia, Kentucky

Tennessee - Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt

Texas - Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M

Texas A&M - LSU, Mississippi State, Texas

Vanderbilt - Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee

Kentucky is the one that ends up the most random. It's hard to solve because their actual biggest rivals are all in high demand. Vandy also gets some random ones outside of the in state game with Tenn. That's the consequence of decades of sucking. Looks pretty good otherwise, though.

Why is anyone bitching about this? We'll play ou, aggy, and Arky every year, plus 6 others in a rotation (home and home, I'm assuming?).   And I like the insistence that one of the OOC games

I can buy most of that outside of Kentucky. Tennessee is pretty close to their OU for Texas with Louisville being their Aggies but OOC. They lost Indiana a long while back. I think likely either Missouri gets Aggie or MSU gets Bama rather than Kentucky.

I don’t see a world where Auburn’s permanent rivals can be Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

Playing Florida every other year (and Tennessee on the off years) is getting it back somewhat and is far better than it was with the divisional setup where they only play one team in the East other than Georgia each year.

From a balance perspective, I agree. Unless Auburn specifically requested it.

Guess this means aggy is now referred to as Texas 7&5 instead of 8&4

As a Gata fan who out of Tennessee, Auburn and LSU would you prefer. I know Tennessee and Florida are pretty big as far as "rivalries" go. I'd put them 3rd after Kentucky and Vandy (just cause intra state rivals on Vandy)

That's a tough one.

I grew up with the Tennessee rivalry becoming a thing, so of the three, probably that one.

But there are a lot of ancient Gators who still cling to the hope of Auburn becoming a thing again. But it's slipping because it was sacrificed to the scheduling gods now going on 20 years ago. Tebow era Gators just don't have the same feel for Auburn as we've only played 4 times since then and playing them every other year is already a big gain for the rivalry.

It's funny that of the three, LSU is the balance of an older rivalry that is still current and has been competitive but it's not the end of the world if that goes to every other year.

We've played Arky what, 7 times in the past 34 years? Historical sure, but they weren't exactly chomping at the bit to play us. Aggy left 13 years ago, and we didn't play. We weren't in the same conference with OU for 60+ years, and still played them. One is not like the other 2.

What do you mean by weren’t. Chomping at the bit ?  I think we are easily their most hated team

That thought struck me last night and I neglected to point it out. Potentially losing their November FCS win is gonna sting.

I'm absolutely certain they are one of the schools that drags it feet on altering schedules to P4 and bitches when their FCS wins are shit on about media biases.

Kentucky has some work to do with the next 3 seasons still sitting at 4 OOC games.

As a fan of Longhorn football, it’s hard to overstate how perfectly the last five years have gone off the field.

No longer being the single big fish in a shitty pond, guaranteed annual games with our three biggest rivals for the first time in 35 years, the incredible development of our NIL program… it’s just a really exciting time to be a fan of this program, especially when contrasted to where things were a decade ago.

Now let’s start piling up some trophies.

But here's my take:

Locked in no brainer:  UGA

Pick 2 of these and I'm good:  LSU, 10rc, Auburn, maybe klan

Do not want:  Mizzou, MissSt, USC(probably one we'll get)

Everyone else: ok

We have arkie and ag at home this year -- and even OU is a home game this year -- which means when we play them all again in '26 at least one of those games would have to become a home game to make the schedule work, right?

Maybe cue up some TAMU tears.

Oooff, Tennessee Tech in 2025 is a banger of a match up for Kentucky. Taking a page out of the Georgia playbook from 2024. Don't think I missed you scheduling UT Martin Okie State!

Like someone else said, we did go back to back at arky’s place between our nonconf game and the first SEC game with them. Same with Aggy in 11 and 24. So one of them logically owes us a back to back trip to Austin

And it’ll be Arkansas….. bc we know aggy will whine, bitch, moan and pay their media mouthpieces to force it not be them

They'll flip Arkansas. Arkansas knows getting Texas as a permanent rival is all that matters so they'll play ball with playing in DKR for 2 straight years.

Never seen 10rc before... amusing.

Does ANYONE aside from maybe Arkansas actually want to play Missouri?

MSU is, imo, the very worst road game in the SEC and that's a big commitment with Bryan College Station and Fayetteville being two of the fabulous "destination cities". At least Arkansas is beautiful topographically.

Agree with you and @Js1 Pig is hungry and Austin road trip is the #1 or #2 destination city in the SEC with Vandy. If Arkansas gets Texas and LSU I think they are the only ones who would happily take Missouri or MSU.

I know this is right, but I will hold out hope against the odds for the next few months. “Look, guys, you demanded that they play you again on your field. We gave you that. You didn’t say anything about something like this. Deal with it. “

Credit to Arkansas if they’re not bitches about it, which I doubt they will be.

Arkansas needs the rivalry and the game in Texas.  They'll say "thank you Mr. Sankey" without even a whimper.

Arky will get fucked bc dealing with aggy on B2B games @ DKR just isn't worth the aggravation for Sankey and the SEC.

Did you miss the OR part where there was a different team?

Why the FUCK would OU end up in a "rivalry" match with Florida? They've played twice, ever. They are the furthest away from one another geographically and Florida already has 3 legit rivalries. OU has a history with Aggie from BiG XII, and Arkansas is next door. Likely its Aggie or Arkansas as it makes the most sense historically and logistically. Which means, Texas, Missouri and a&m or Arkansas as the OU games which shifts Arkansas to Texas, LSU, and OU or Missouri. Then again there is the old SWC Arkansas/Aggie tie so.. Missouri is the odd ball that really only has ties to OU, and a bit of an old rivalry with Arkansas. Who wants to play Missouri though? They're never good, but rarely horrible. Beat them you should, lose it's an upset for good teams.

I saw where the OR was placed. You should check it out.

And as @TKthunder2 pointed out above, it’s already been all but established that, for whatever ridiculous reason, OU and UF are going to be forced into a rivalry. If you’ve been following, you probably have seen that.

Additionally, I believe (though I’m too busy to go confirm) that this was all foreshadowed during basketball season, when we played each of our rivals twice, but played the rest of the conference only once. I’m pretty sure OU played Florida twice. We played OU, atm and pig twice.

Actually they played us, aggy and Missouri twice; I just looked.

And they also changed some of them going into 2026 - OU is still the same, but Texas replaces arkansas with Georgia and aggy gets LSU twice (plus Texas and OU)

Edited by Js1

I am hoping against hope they make A&M come to Texas 2x in a row like we had to do with them.  Mainly because them losing their shit would be funny.  But also we have a ranch near Navasota and do thanksgiving with my family there on odd years.  Would allow us to go to the game in BCS those seasons easily.

Then I stand corrected.

That is where aggy fucked up a bit by forcing the 2024 matchup to be in CS, when it should have always been in Austin (not withstanding that we played there in 2011 before the rivalry was paused), so we could go back to even in Austin/odd in CS.  Now it's going to be reverse, unless the SEC makes them come to Austin in 2026 to get it back on track (they won't).

Well, there are people on IT arguing for Texas to drop its top OOC, so when it comes to what's argued here or elsewhere, I'm going to lean logic over internet stupidity. OU and UF in a "pod" make zero sense for fans or markets. AD playing for money does a bit and one could argue Florida recruiting for OU, which is bad for UF.

Of all the things I've heard on alignment discussions this is the one that jumps out as the fucking dumbest one for UF and OU fans. Then again, who gives a shit about fans, I suppose when money talks.

I didn't actually listen to the SEC Podcast, to be honest. I just thought their recommendations have merit.

Agree, but with the relative weakness of some of the SEC programs, it does mean the conference has to do some semblance of balance to a) give those weaker teams at least 1 compelling matchup and b) balance out the 3 permanent opponents so that nobody is given 3 nobodies or 3 really good teams to deal with every year

There's going to be 3-4 programs who will be mad at the end of the day once the permanent opponents are announced. A few teams are going to have to give up a game they really like for something that's less interesting, and vice versa.

OU is going to get Missouri for proximity and Big 8 ties.  And obviously Texas.  But then do you force them to take aggy as their third opponent, which means aggy, now saddled with OU and Texas, has to choose between Arkansas, LSU and/or an easier opponent, like South Carolina or Miss St.

Somebody isn't going to be happy.

I get that there will definitely be some fuckery among the lower tier schools. That said, UF and OU have brand awareness nationally. I don't see them getting fucked with such a shitty "rival".

Schools most likely to get the shit end will be Missouri, SC, MSU, Vandy, Kentucky and Auburn. I rank Missouri as victim #1 as they really only have history with OU and more recently Arkansas.

UF and OU aren't both getting the shit end, imo.

Our three rivals are obvious and I don't give a single fuck about anyone else's three rivals.

I think we align.  They would absolutely want us on their permanent schedule.  I don’t think they’d deny that

Also on team this.

Other teams will whine and cry and bitch and moan about their pod being too hard or not having a team they wanted, but as long as Texas gets aggy, OU and Arky, I don't give a shit who anyone else plays.

Having those 3 on the schedule + a marquee OOC game absolutely crushes the boring ass schedules we had in the Big 12, playing teams who hated us more than we hated them and manufacturing "rivalries" with West Virginia and dumb shit like that.

Finally playing OU, aggy, and Arkansas again regularly but in an environment in which WE get to pay more for players than any of them does -- it's about time.

With all the massive changes to modern college football, we are actually blessed to have 3 traditional rivals in our pod. A mix of the old with the new. It's great.

For selfish reasons, I want to keep LSU.  1) because my son went there, and 2) because I can drive to games in Red Stick in 90 minutes.

Plus, the tailgate food is much better in Baton Rouge than it is in Tennessee, and a night game at LSU is a must do experience.  That big steep Vol stadium can be quiet as a church when those assholes are down, but the degenerates at LSU scream the entire game.

And finally, I’m pretty sure if you look at the game closeness factor, that the majority of the games still have Florida and LSU Fighting for a last-minute score to win.    Put another way, the LSU-Florida game is usually a better game than Tennessee-Florida.

I do get more satisfaction beating Tennessee if that is the decider.

Good list. I think LSU would much rather play Florida than aggy, and Florida would much rather play LSU than South Carolina. Surely, there’s a solution in there.

That said, I expect some gamesmanship from the scared pussy schools such as aggy to make their pod as uncompetitive as possible.

Edited by billfromlaketravis

I keep seeing Alabama having the 3 PO’s of Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU. I can definitely see the first two, but mark my words, Bama still has enough sway still in this league that they’ll get a Vandy, UK, or Miss. St. thrown into their grouping to maintain their competitive advantage.
