Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread

Their idea that they have to keep the 2022 class that hasn't done jackshit from portaling at all costs is funny.  I don't believe it for a minute; they just don't have the money.  Looch has to spin something.

I’m not sure this is even potentially reasonable, but I haven’t heard it mentioned and I haven’t thought about it….but maybe the aTm boosters find a way to restructure his contract like Bobby Bonilla. Offer him another 23 million for an even 100, and restructure it so they pay like 5 a year for 20 years. Maybe that’s how make to possible for them to get another guy and pay NIL.

That being said, I don’t know how the mechanics of that work either, because if Im fisher I just don’t trust any situation where that money isn’t already in escrow somewhere, which brings us back to the original problem. It’s one thing to trust a mlb organization, another a loose affiliation of boosters who fund an athletic department that had to take a loan from the academic side to expand their stadium.

Bonilla wound up making like 6 times what he would have made normally, perfect for Jimbo

It really is incredible to hear them publicly admitting this. Let’s play devils advocate for a moment. You fire Jimbo at the end of the 2024 season instead of 2023 just so you have a chance at winning that single, likely meaningless for them, regular season game.

What impact does that have? Well, for starters, the 2025 class is going to be a monster in state class. None of the top talent is going to go to a dead man walking coach with a boring offense. That means that they are jeopardizing at least 3 or even 4 seasons including 2024 for a single game with a bunch of mercenaries.

That could mean three straight subpar classes (23, 24, 25) for their next coach. The portal has changed the nature of rebuilds but damn that’s grim

And another thing. Championships are built by stacking classes. They preached that the first five years under Jimbo. But now they think that they can win on the strength of a single class. They’ve bled out a bunch of guys from ‘21 (but those were just scrubs!) and the early returns at positions of need for ‘23 have not looked good.

Do they owe all this money if Fisher dies? Hypothetically speaking that is.

and it's already been decimated by drug problems and the portal.

Losing guys from the 2022 class is the least of their problems. Their offensive line is abysmal, and it's not a quick fix. We wandered in the wilderness for a decade because of poor recruiting and evaluation on the o-line.

Hey, things might seem bad over there right now, but they at least can celebrate being possibly the best one-game-over-.500 team with two conference losses at this point in the season.

If something happens to the staff, then what is considered to be a possible national title winning class is perceived to be possibly headed out the door as well.

I absolutely LOVE that they are now trying spin that they need to keep Jimbo in order to keep the 2022 class.  Implies that (1) they love Jimbo, (2) they won't jump ship for a chance to win during their last year of college (most will leave after their Jr. year)

Also allows them to say they *want* to keep him, and avoid coming to terms with the fact that they can't *afford* to not keep him.

By keeping the ‘22 class do they mean the DL because I’m not sure where else you can say the recruits from that class is a strength on that team. Secondary sucks, don’t think any LBs are left, Evans is just a name at WR. TE??? Entire OL sucks regardless of class, and they can’t keep QB1 healthy. RBs are pedestrian at best.

asking a LOT of one class of 20ish guys remaining?

jackson, turner, diggs, and raikes are listed as juniors or seniors from the site I just perused.

They are bringing top men in to thoroughly evaluate the program.  Along with the names mentioned above,  I've been told that great football minds like Jaxson Appel and Jorvorski Lane have been added to the list and Shane Lechler is strongly being considered.

A Blue Ribbon Panel!

It is fun to watch the realization creeping in that Jimbo is not the guy. They really thought he was the missing piece to get them a national championship, they spent more money than anyone ever has to hire him (and extend him) and now in year six they’re right back where they were at the end of Sumlin’s tenure.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, one must have a heart of stone to watch the Jimbo story arc without laughing.

Jackson, Turner, and Diggs probably bolt for the NFL.  Turner you would think for sure and Jackson almost did last year.

What I'm looking at is if guys like Shemar Stewart and Overton portal out.  Doesn't seem like either see the field much, I don't remember ever seeing either against Tennessee.

he liked like 10+ "Miller decommitted from A&M" tweets, he liked the Stone decommitment from LSU

i think Bussey decommitting drops them from #5 to #10, which helps (negatively) impact the recruiting story there

idk where their next dudes come from but the highest rated uncommitted players in Texas are Kobe Black at #11, Miller at 12 (LSU Bound), then nobody until #78 (some CB from Arizona who now goes to LE in Texarkana? and has no updates on his site at all, listed at 5'10" and 178) and #97 in Texas (RB who goes to Allen, again nothing on his profile but listed at 5'9" and 175)

This is what I'm talking about when they say "we're really young with freshman and sophomores all over the field."

Are there sophomores and freshmen "all over the field"? To some degree, sure.

Freshmen on defense that played against Tenn: -Taurean York (71 snaps), David Hicks (13), Dalton Brooks (2)

Sophomores on defense that played against Tenn: Walter Nolan (46), Shemar Stewart (21), LT Overton (16), Malick Sylla (14), Jarred Kerr (6)

Nolan got hurt. Bryce Anderson was hurt and didn't play.

Of the guys starting on defense and removing for injury, Nolan, Anderson, and York start on defense. They have, when fully healthy, 8 starters at the 3 year through 5 year level. 3 five year guys, 4 four year guys, and 3 three year guys. Behind them are 2 three year starters and a few 2022 guys plus Hicks. Most of their starting defense, by a wide margin, will be eligible for the NFL draft this cycle and/or completely out of eligibility next cycle.

Beyond that, they have massive attrition risk with the portal. Brownlow-Dindy and White aren't even really playing. Sylla is a redass so maybe he sticks, but he's good enough to be starting all over the country. Overton is probably playing enough to stick if the guys in front of him go pro or transfer. Anderson had half his body in the portal last year and they money-whipped him. There's nothing of value for them at LB or CB in the 2022 class and they'll be playing JAGs and unprovens at both spots for sure next year. Lose some DL and S to the portal and they're really in trouble.

He's a cerebral player and better than our mockery of him. He's calling plays as a true freshmen LB in the SEC. He had almost double the snap counts of any other LB against Tenn. That said, he's not making a bunch of plays.

the lack of athleticism is just a killer when it comes to limiting ceiling anywhere, but especially in the P5 conferences.

it says everything anyone needs to know about that room that he came in and will start every game for them this year as a true freshman

Hicks has to be kicking himself after seeing what Hill is doing at UT.  I guess the $ was right for him, but I would have to imagine the UT offer would have been similar over 3-4 years.

He is a smart slow MLB with OK instincts. Maybe even go as far as cal him a coach on the field… That is a vast improvement over the rest of the roster at LB, but he is a massive liability as your “best” LB.

The funny part is that we haven’t seen teams abuse him yet in the passing game on a regular basis. Part of this is that the corners are so bad there isn’t really a reason to do so yet and part because they can force enough pressure that he hasn’t had to keep up with the shallow crossers the entire time.

If the DL injuries from the Tenn game are considered long term, then I expect to see him get exposed vs SC…

They don't realize they're actually making it worse for the subs. If Bussey decommits it will be a meltdown of epic proportions.

He made some plays against Tennessee, I seem to remember a really nice TFL, but I wasn't watching close enough to know if that was just a single flash play in an otherwise mediocre performance of if he is a quality player. He looked a bit smallish out there. I do know that Tennessee was gashing A&M up the middle, so he couldn't have been that good.
