Huffines appears to be picking up followers and getting noticed, but hard to say if it's humans or bots.

Most of us have plenty of burner twitter accounts, we need to be on there cheering him on in his attacks on Abbott, and when he loses in the primary to Abbott, we need to encourage he and his followers to go MAGA party, and that he's the only True Conservative Texan who has the guts to show what a RINO Abbott is.

This. The game is dirty and we have to play dirty to win. Fuck these people.

And pearl clutching centrists are going to make the guns thing a bigger issue than the right wing and amplify their nonsense.

Democrats are their own worst enemy.

More Texans don’t own guns than own guns. It’s just that the NRA and gun crazies are so loud.

If he runs, the pearl clutching from Texas “Democrats” will do the right’s job for them.

Anyone that bases their votes on gun control will NEVER vote for Beto.

True, but general election themes must be focused on the largest group you can get. The problem with “Hell yes we’re taking your guns” is not about who it alienated, but the fact that it became the dominant theme, despite only speaking to a minority within the coalition, one that was already strong in support.

Tthat moment, along with his constant public self-flagellation for privilege and this and that microoffense are the kind of distractions that cost him the opportunity to dictate the contours of the senate race. The problem with Beto isn’t about policy positions, but a lack of message discipline in the service of assembling a majority.

What makes you think native Texans are a distinct minority? From Texas Demographics.
Approximately 83 percent of the [Texas] population is native born and 17 percent is foreign born. The population is 49.6 percent male (13,625,413) and 50.4 percent female (13,843,701). The median age in Texas is 34.4 years old, compared to 37.8 nationally.

Well according to that logic then Beto should have won easily since your previous post said Beto won a majority of native Texans.

Or maybe people are born in Texas and move out of the state and vice versa, including before they are even eligible to vote. Imagine that. The “native born” angle is just stupid.

This is partly what is driving Abbott - Huffines has picked up some of the Trump staffers.

Most of us? Have burner Twitter accounts?

I barely keep up with 1

I responded to that tweet.  I really do think encouraging Huffines is a good plan.  As insane as that sounds, but the simulation gives no fucks, so I say we fight insanity with insanity.  Get him to run 3rd party.  Split the vote.

I’m down. Seems like a good plan

Beto win a majority of native Texans who voted. And while voter engagement is on the upswing in Texas, it’s far from good.

Sorry, I just assumed most college football fans have a couple laying around for trolling opposing teams, but that's a bad assumption.

No. But the argument that Californians moving to Texas are somehow turning it more republican is very stupid.

Need to crank up Photoshop and replace Shatner's face with Abbott's, and the gremlin's with Huffines'.

I figure for every well heeled Republican business owner moving to Texas there needs to be a small gaggle or working stiffs to come support all our added wealth.

The working stiffs are making up the bulk of the departure from California if some of the data is accurate. It was some think tank I ran across that showed the out migration was primarily <$130-140,000 and w/o a college degree while the in migration to California tended to have higher income and more education and are slightly younger--moving to California for employment.

I tried to upload the images they had, but I think my files are too large. Anyway, from 2015-2019 the loss was ~210,000 middle income while the gain was ~49,500 higher income (higher was >$140,000). The housing costs have been one of the top reasons people surveyed mention as the reason for moving away.

hows the tard off going?

Did UT really have an ad against Abbott pulled before the UT / Rice game? Lincoln Project is claiming that or at least asking who had it pulled.

Do you think Abbott would actually lean on UT to pull that ad?

Because I think he's capable of doing just that.  Very little would surprise me as far as he is concerned these days.

A couple of days ago I noticed that Don Huffines was following me on twitter and posted that fact here.  Now I notice that he's no longer following me, which tells me that either he or someone on his staff is reading this thread.  I don't really care that he stopped following me but it does puzzle me. I post 100% pure Texas content and discourage partisan politics on all of my social media, making me "safe"  for politicians of all stripes. I mean, both Beto and Cornyn have retweeted me as have many other politicians from both side of the aisle.

Shrug.

He failed the Emeritus test and can eabod and diaf.

Beto will never win an election in Texas for the forseeable future after the gun thing. That is just wasted time. The GQP will run endless commercials on loop with him yelling about taking guns, then some generic statement about "errmahgurd socialism/communism" and that will be enough. We have too many simpletons in this state that are single issues voters and can't look at the bigger picture of where this state is headed.

I would think someone at UT made the call to pull the ad.

A group of former and current Republicans said Sunday that their ad criticizing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's (R) pandemic response was pulled from airing during Saturday night's University of Texas-Rice football game. "Despite being cleared by ESPN's legal department, 10 minutes before kickoff, we were informed that the ad would not run," the Lincoln Project, founded to oppose former President Donald Trump, said in a statement. "When asked why, we were told it was a 'University-made decision.' Did Greg Abbott or his allies assert political influence to ensure the advertisement was not broadcast?"

A spokesman for Abbott said the governor had nothing to do with pulling the ad, and the University of Texas did not expeditiously respond to a request for comment, The Dallas Morning News reports. "Abbott is a University of Texas graduate. He appoints members of the school's board of regents." The ad, "Abbott's Wall," says you could create an 85-mile-long wall of caskets from the more than 60,000 Texans who have died from COVID-19, or fill a cemetery that stretches between Austin and San Antonio.

The Lincoln Project said it spent $25,000 to air the spot nationwide on the Longhorn Network, and it "will be filing a Freedom of Information request with the University of Texas at Austin and Greg Abbott's official office to determine if any communications were made between the school and those within the governor's office in regards to this First Amendment-protected speech." The group said "several sources" had informed it "of the political panic inside the governor's office and campaign organization."

Patty huffhines is the president of our alumni association this year.  She talks to the tower and regents every week.

I feel like if Beto just backs off the gun thing (maybe pose with a couple uzis dressed like chuck Norris from 90s) the he’ll be good.  Seriously he can say something like “my gun policy will focus on safet and education “ the. Always change the subject to health care and  education.

This.

Change the subject - keep making Abbott answer for COVID, usurping local leadership to appease the rural crowds when it comes to COVID, and the abortion law.

Beto's jumping into the race is probably the best thing Abbott could have hoped for...

Democrats in Texas need to get their shit together and have an actual plan / candidate before things are ever going to change.

It's just like the California Newson recall... lots of people are on board until they find out who their other choice is.

This is true, but there is a risky way to combat that. The problem with the counter strategy is that it's simultaneously the only way to win but also the best way to lose 80-20. Basically once the Republicans start those ads respond with an ad campaign of his own showing images reminiscent of school shootings, dead schoolchildren, guns killing kids, etc. Then close with a well crafted line saying something like "They're right, Beto O'Rourke doesn't want this to happen anymore. Why don't they agree?" Something like that.

It's an extremely difficult thing to do right (I couldn't for sure). But if it hits just right it takes that issue away. If it hits wrong then everyone in the state hates him and he's done. So in the end you're right, he won't win.
