I want to be rich.  Not just BMW 5 series rich, living in Westlake rich, but Elon Musk/Bill Gates rich.

Unfortunately, it seems almost impossible at this point.  I thought saving $100k/yr. was pretty good, but I just did the math.

At this rate it would take me a million years before I had saved $100 billion.

Barring some unexpected life extension technology I doubt I have a million years left.

So, how did these guys aquire such vast sums of money?  How can I join the $100 billion club?

Any ideas and/or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I hear hookers and blow can be quite lucrative.

Pimping ain't easy, though.  And it's frowned upon.

I want to make my money in such a way I can be proud, preferably in a climate controlled environment.

win the powerball and then invest every cent of it in the next bitcoin.

you’re welcome.

Start up a vulgar, irreverent, obtuse fan message board. Pull out tree fiddy. Profit.

Not a bad idea, though I was not aware message boards were such a profitable endeavor.

By the time you would (supposedly) become a $billionaire$, you'll need to become a $$$trillionaire$$$ anyhow.

Also: politics.

1,000,000 is to 2 chicks, as 100,000,000,000 is to 200,000 chicks.

It sounds awesome, but I'm not sure I have the stamina.

If you just shoot for a billion instead of a 100 billion, it will only take 10,000 years.

Also, those guys don't have 100 billion dollars. They really don't even have much of an income. They have stocks and shit that are valued at 100 billion. If they need cash for next week's hooker and blow Caribbean pool party, they take out a loan against that collateral. (which is why they also don't pay taxes, but that is another thread).

One billion is more realistic I suppose, but I'm a believer in the go big, or go home philosophy.

Yolo!

Are you suggesting I somehow travel back in time, and invest in DeLorean?

Bro, I'm not trying to be like Biff Tannen.  I hate that dude.

Greed, for a lack of a better word, is good.

Hey butthead!  What'd I ever do to you?

Kill someone with $100 billion and assume their identity.

But it's gotta be a recluse or many people would notice.

Both Musk and Gates were key players of some sort in a new technology.  Find a new technology and become a key player.

Walking around campus in 1981-3 there were students carrying around big stacks for FORTRAN punch cards.  I think about how my life would have been different if I'd changed my major to computer science back then.

This is kind of what I mean.  If plastics and plastic technology is exploding, get into that business.  Frankly, I'd figure out how to decarbonize the atmosphere since that's kind of a big deal right now.

Too much of a free-rider problem.

Figure out how to retrofit homes so that they’ll be ok 100 feet under water. Or at -100 degrees. Or +200 degrees. And guess which one correctly.

ATM machines.  Not owning and operating them, stealing them.  There’s hundreds of thousands of them.

Yeah, but nobody is going to pay you to do that.  The easiest way to make money is to create the wildest, most unbelievable lie and tell the American voter that if they send you money you'll save them.

Have you considered signing up for that bank service that rounds every purchase up to the next dollar and sends all the change to your savings account?

Just take it $20 at a time. I know you’re not gay. But $20 is $20.

"Behind every great fortune lies a great crime"

Get a loan for $200 billion and then get into the ranching business.   Pretty soon you'll have $100 billion and then just write off the loan.

I am currently making up fake press releases to pump and dump cryptocurrencies. Do that 100x and your gold. Did you hear that Amazon is going to start to accept <checks notes> ethereum Max?

OK, I got this. Want 100 Billion? Easy. Start with 500 Billion, and open a games and comic books store. Boom. You'll be worth 100 Billion before the year is out.

I can verify that this was the case.

Open an online retail store that sells only books. Overtime, expand your product line to more than books. Offer to have others sell their items and get a commission on those sales. If someone has a really good product, copy it, slap your name on it then ban that person/entity from selling on your store. Soon you'll need your own warehouses and planes and delivery trucks and stuff, too. Then you can buy rockets and go into space.

Convince yourself you already have 100 billion dollars. It's not a lie if you believe it.

Write it off of what?
