May 22May 22 Just bought my first grown man watch at 54. Better late than never. It's a Kurono 2025 Anniversary Jubilee Sensu EOL. Know nothing about the brand other than it's a limited release, I liked how it looked and thought it would be a good conversation piece since the face in in Japanese. Any info on the brand would be appreciated.

But it charges with movement, so it only matters when you're not wearing it. According to the website, it's designed to look like a traditional Japanese fan. And the center is like a Japanese rock garden. Edited May 22May 22 by DixonHur

Any info on the brand would be appreciated. Hajime Asaoka is fantastic when it comes to dial design. You're paying most of that $2.5k for the excellent craftsmanship on the dial, the movement is a standard Miyota 9133 (Miyota 9-series with a power reserve complication). Miyota's discontinued the 9133 so keep that in mind when it's time for servicing. Kurono is a bit of an oddball microbrand. They pride themselves on being very forward-thinking. A few years ago they released a limited edition and explicitly stated that the direct-sale batch would only be sold to female-identifying customers, which caused a bit of a stir and they had to backtrack. Regardless, they make damn nice dials. Interestingly, the 12 o'clock marker on your watch is actually 零, the character for zero.
May 23May 23 Also fun fact, the rest of those characters are old school Chinese characters for the corresponding numbers. No one really uses those characters anymore as they were replaced by more simplified characters decades ago.
May 23May 23 Anyone know what the characters by 3 O'clock mean? At first I thought it was the date, but it looks static.

There wasn't a wait for this model (Fabrik Model 1), but the options for the new version (Model 3) are either 2029 or 2030. Ergo I opted for this one. June 2Jun 2 I may have posted this sometime ago….. My first watch was a 1958 Rado 25 jewel self-winder. Wore it for 20 years before it started losing too much time, then stored it away in a box somewhere in my closet. Looks just like the one below, but with a metal expansion band. Supposedly, it is a collectible.

June 18Jun 18 Special is too strong of a word. I should have put boutique exclusive in quotes, as I think it’s probably just a slight derivation from what’s widely available through any AD retail shop. But it gives them something they can claim is unique. It has a forest green dial that I had a hard time capturing with my iPhone camera. Here’s their image: It also came with the green rubberized strap and then they threw in the calf strap that is in my original picture. It’s a standard Luminor at the end of the day. I know the movement isn’t done in house and Panerai tends to be shit on by the elite watch enthusiasts, but I’ve always loved the ID and I’m happy to have it as a more casual option.

July 3Jul 3 Author Picked up a Tudor FXD Chrono (Red Bull Racing Edition). Don't give a fuck about yacht racing. Just liked the watch.
July 7Jul 7 Gold panerai something or other spotted in the wild this weekend. I am not a fan of panerai but this one had me enchubbened
July 12Jul 12 I was passing through a duty free, and I was kind of shocked at the watch prices. I would not normally consider buying there, but given the increase in tariffs, I am wondering if that isn't the best buying option now. I am not sure what I want to buy, I don't think I have the scratch for the Rolex that I want, but the prices are favorable I think versus retail in the US. And obviously in the right shop the selection is really good. I was at CDG which has quite the selection of watched.
July 15Jul 15 I think I've asked this question before but it was on the old site. Any good places for Rolex Sub repair in Austin? It runs once you start moving it around but the dial won't turn the time hands or the date.

July 29Jul 29 I started watching YouTube videos for watch fanatics after I bought my Breitling. I love Teddy Baldassare, he is great. This is one of my favorites.
August 1Aug 1 The U-boat steel with tegimented surface treatment Sinn uses is legit. Borderline impossible to scratch. Only Damasko surpasses it with their ice-hardened steel.

August 5Aug 5 Haven't bought a new dress watch since buying my current TAG 7 years ago, but I've had my eyes on a Pepsi Tudor for a while and planning to finally pull the trigger later this year. I'd obviously rather have a Pepsi Rolex, but I've yet to achieve Surly 1% status. Edited August 5Aug 5 by Storm the Field
