It's quite possible I'm biased due to my age, but that five year period had some incredible music. Coincidentally, it was the golden age of MTV, so there are some great videos from that era. It was a period when MTV wasn't afraid to play tunes that were a little different. Something happened around 1985 and they became bland. Moreover, I was in middle school and was first growing my musical roots.

I saw them at Redrocks for the War tour 1983. Amazing concert, raining, cold and the flames on the stage

MTV had to play those videos because they were the only ones available.  The precursor to MTV started in the United Kingdom, thus all of those bands had videos.  American artists really didn't have much by way of videos until after MTV took off.  First two or three years of MTV were my favorite.
