Overall it's been a good first half. Thing 2 episodes this pat month were a bit iffy...but i've enjoyed this cast a lot more than years past honestly. Been pretty good.

damn i love Hozier, he can sang!

To each their own but I can't stand his music. He did a pretty good job on the Pogues' cover this past week, though.

you misspelled Kenan

I caught Michael Longfellow at the Dallas Comedy Club in June and didn't laugh one time. Wasn't impressed.

His warmup act - a local guy named Dez O'Neal - was much funnier.

Great:

Day, Fineman, Gardner, Sherman, do not destroy, weekend update, the commercials (generally)

Ok:

Dismukes, Johnson (Trump amazing, otherwise meh), Nwodim (beautiful), Thompson (how the fuck is he still doing this? he doesn't bother me though), maybe Yang

Dreadful:

Hernandez (no range, same bit every sketch),  Longfellow, Wickline (holy nepotism), Wakim, Padilla, maybe Yang

Pretty much agree. There are a handful of cast members who automatically get the fast forward treatment from me, and I don't think that's ever been the case before. And they seemingly want to feature all of them as much as possible.

Padilla is the best looking cast member now so I guess she has that going for her.

The whole thing feels like a license to steal. Every week is another half ass, mailed in effort unless there’s a great host.

It’ll be sugar coated bullshit, but I’m in.

I think the most interesting part of the 50th Anniversary Special will be the snubs. I’d predict no Rob Schneider and Joe Piscopo. And continuing to act like George Carlin never existed.

He can be. He can also be lazy and unfunny.

Most gays enjoy his schtick.

I've never laughed at Yang, but in fairness, for the last couple of years I've fast forwarded through anything that looks like a Yang-centric skit or WE.

You fast forward through Weekend Update?

i mean this might have been one of the funniest skits in years lol

If Yang comes out dressed as a hurricane or something stupid, yes.

Those are the times he's actually funny.

There's always good and bad cast members...just the last decade had more bad than good ones.

I think this current cast is pretty decent overall, just as SNL is pretty decent overall...good highs, some lows...but MUCH Better than most of the last decade plus worth of SNL IMO.

There’s a new 4 part documentary on SNL on Peacock and it’s really good. The episodes cover casting, the process of putting on the show, a whole episode solely on the making of The Cowbell skit and, finally the debacle of season 11

Just on the first episode (Hey, Joe Piscopo!) and I love how they have the cast members watch and comment on their own auditions.

#1734

Serious question are they bad at picking cast members? The list of people who auditioned and didn’t get it is stunning. Imagine SNL with Jim Carey, Jennifer Coolidge, Kevin Hart, Donald Glover, or Stephen Colbert.

Gosh, I wish the 1st episode could have crammed more Blowem Yang in, you just can't get enough.

Chapelle's monologue was excellent. Jost really went for it. Excellent episode.

I remember when Ashlee Simpson’s career basically ended for getting caught lip syncing on SNL.  Seems like the musical guests don’t even try to hide it anymore.  Whoever that rapper was on Chappelle’s episode last night didn’t even try to pretend like that was her.

That's because Ashlee got nervous and started dancing the jig like a dork.

You can be fraudulent, just not un-cool.

Carl Winslow from Family Matters was there and I wasn't invited?

It’s tough to pretend they’re not, when the track that starts is the one from their earlier performance in the show.

Great episode (compared to the other shit they have been pumping out).

Not a coincidence that Bowen Yang was in...what only 1 skit + open.

Next week with Chalamet hosting we will get him in every fucking skit

I don’t think they needed Yang in the cold open. JAJ did 5 seconds of Trump, and then they inexplicably have Yang do his tired George Santos impression.
