Yeah, Eddie's imitation of Tracy Morgan standing next to Tracy Morgan was next level.

I liked Sarah Sherman as Jost’s jack agent.

Yea i like how her insult Jost bit has grown into that character. Probably was her goal with it from the beginning.

OK, between this and EPL matches, I guess I'm going to have to subscribe to Peacock.

Sort of related, but the tik tok algorithm has been feeding me a bunch of shorts of comedians, and one of the funniest is by far Shane Gillis, the guy who was fired from SNL. It seems there has been a Streisand effect of sorts or maybe the guy has always been this funny, but he’s killing it. I wonder if he ever gets big enough to host and joke about the SNL.

He's got a special on Netflix. He ranges from very funny to cringe when ge gets into politics. IMO

@shadow_operative is a big fan.

and comics who are not former cast members don't often host (in reply to the post before this one).  as big as nate has gotten, i was pretty surprised when i saw he was hosting.  i guess with the multiple strikes going the past few months, all bets are off.

was he ever officially a writer or part of the cast before he got fired?  i don't know the story.

i can’t stop talking like Gillis with his semi-philly accent because i keep listening to/watching his stuff so much, lol. if you’re a fan of sketch comedy and you like shane gillis you should give gilly and keaves a try:

Slight thread derail, Nate announced a show for Austin (Moody Center) for 21 April.  I'd be in like Flynt, but it's our oldest's birthday party.  Maybe we'll get lucky at that'll be the Spring Game and we can have him over for surly banter and black tar heroin.

He's got a show the night before in San Antonio.  Then 4 days off before heading to Corpus of all places.  Maybe we can organize a meet 'n greet between those if he's not jetting back to Nashville to see his family.  Or we could offer up one of y'all's places on the coast to hang out.

The original phrase is actually Flynn, and may have referred to a NYC political boss, and was also used to describe Errol Flynn for his various affairs.

I prefer to think of 60's America's super spy guy. Flint was the coolest of the cool.

Nate Bargatze, who for my money is one of the best comics working, will be hosting this weekend.

SNL' Sets Nate Bargatze, Foo Fighters as Host and Musical Guest

I found this skit pretty awesome

I laughed but it was beyond predictable even for SNL.  But what I realize now is it was the perfect harnessing of Nate by them.  Not only was it the first sketch to air after the opening, but probably was the first sketch they wrote for him that week.  I said it pages ago that his low-energy, self-effacing humor may not translate to SNL in the usual way, but he's beyond naturally funny.  He's a mashup of everyday observational Seinfeld humor smashed into Louis CK's disdain for himself and the whole of humanity.  But he's less smug than Jerry and less of a creepy asshole than Louis.  He didn't do the usual 10 years of road grind, he did 20 before getting his big breaks.  Because he just doesn't have a gimmick, or a hook, or a look, or a vibe, or an energy, or a hip social media presence.  It's 20 years of 1000 different sets, each one funnier than the last.

Anyway, this one ends up working for me because they realize his low-energy, constantly apologetic, southern tone is perfect for a guy who accidentally cooks the best black soul food ever.  Perfect Nate.  The Washington sketch is his best, by far, because it's just him being hyped up about something so boring that he comes across as America's most inspiring leader ever with the amplification of a kazoo.  Lake Beach was his perfect blend of a fuck you to Aldean while celebrating his white trash roots---he absolutely loved that and it showed.  Airplane and Halloween was him deferring to the cast members and content to hang back.  Hallmark Horror one was weird, just them trying to cram in a Halloween sketch and Nate along for the ride.  I thought Please Don't Destroy would involve him more since they're friends off-camera, but obviously went a different way.  His monologue will be legend for years to come.  They used him perfectly and Chef sketch shows how.

pretty funny, i lol'd quite a few times.

Smoked Chedda, lmao 😄

Chalamet is a good host, he goes all in which makes everything better.

also...lordy is he nice to look at 😛

Overall a great episode. Momoa brought the heat.

The Please Don’t Destroy movie mostly works like the old SNL movies. Just don’t expect Wayne’s World or Blues Brothers.

Ben is the only member from the South, so North Carolina is a choice for the setting. The Conan goatee rules, but there are easier ways to get there.

Adam Driver deserves to be known for better movies than Star Wars. Dude is hilarious.

Airplane baby skit was gold.

Old Friends was really good, but it hit a little too close to home.

So stick to indie flicks instead of tentpole franchises? Yes, I can very much live with that.

I don’t know the name of the girl playing Stefanik but that sort of did it for me.

Chloe Troast. Only new cast member this year.

Old Friends/Facebook was the only sketch that worked. Adam Driver is just very, very niche.

The very niche community of people who enjoy watching actors who can act.

yeah...that was a funny episode. his monologue was great lol 😆

he'll be in the 5x Club soon...he's already hosted four times!

It was pretty basic, but I'll admit that I laughed at the home shopping network chocolatier sketch.

Holy fuck that Christmas joke exchange was classic.

Billie Eilish rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” was pretty good

FWIW - people on Reddit are saying Hattie Davis is a made up person Che brought on to make Colin more insecure about reading the racist jokes.

Not sure if that's the case or not but it's a brilliant move

That's my favorite Christmas song and that was a fantastic rendition.

Nice start. The Christmas Awards were terrific. Everybody has a grandmother that gave them JC Penny clothes for Christmas.

That was such a good cold open. They definitely went the safe route after last week with the Ivy League presidents cold open.

I’ve sent that Weekend Update to so many people this morning. [emoji23]

I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed that hard at SNL. Probably Stefon years ago.

i just had a coughing fit from laughing so hard 🤣

If you look back at the "North Pole News: Killer Whale Attack", it was the most political sketch in awhile.  Very, very clever.  I love Kate.  Pretty good episode overall, better than the last handful.  Great season overall thus far for Autumn.  Long 5-week hiatus until next one

And yes, as much as we all love the W/U joke swap deal...this may have been the best one yet.  And it was the responses by Che, Colin's attempted fistbump, and Harriet's reactions that made it so wonderful.  The writing on W/U was awesome, but the out loud laughter came from the little headnods 'n shit.  Loved it.

Didn't think as much of the cold opening as y'all, but topical obviously.  The Cinema Classics was pretty damn funny as well because of Kate, glad I watched it the next morning since i usually nod off around mid-show.  And I could watch a thousand versions of Whiskers 'R We, one of the few 10-to-1's that never gets old.  ABBA Christmas and Tampon Farm also funny, but probably just because of the cameos all cutting each other up.  Writing overall was below par for the season, but everybody on camera brought it home including non-clever ideas but very hilariously well executed like Gifts from Mom and Paperless Post.

I mean honestly, if you think SNL isn't edgy any more or too political correct---some writer pitched a White Elephant Gift Exchange which involved two Black people passing on a Sickle Cell Anemia cure gift.  And it may end up in the SNL Christmas episode greatest hits pantheon.  We're just getting old and cranky, that's all...

Would have given it a B+, but probably now an A- after rewatching, "you're an even better black window than Coretta Scott King."  Given the setup, that's maybe the best joke you'll hear on SNL for years, but it didn't get the belly laughs because it so awkward given the "little art movie/Harriet/Colin cringing."  So beautifully done.

"Y'all need Jesus" slayed.  And then to be followed by the Black Widow joke.  So, so good.

Hell.  Yes.  Kate and Billie make a great comic duo.

That's not the only kinda duo I'd like to see them make...
