Kim K slightly curious, but she has hosted and is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world. I hope Chevy is an asshole.
February 11Feb 11 Bringing Spade back for that bullshit Church Lady stings. It’s early, but that’s my biggest snub. Carvey has hung around Studio 8H all season, so I understand him not getting a sketch in the 50th.
February 12Feb 12 It will be tough to top the 40th. Think I remember reading that Norm MacDonald did a lot of heavy lifting on that special.

February 12Feb 12 Is Aykroyd ill? His absence is weird. He’s hosting like half dozen shows on cable and streaming now, so it’s not like he’s exited public life.

February 15Feb 15 The Homecoming Concert Special has made some really odd choices. Not introducing musical guests, a Tom Petty tribute 8 fucking years after he died, opening with Fallon singing Soul Man and then chasing it with a washed Miley Cyrus singing A Crazy Thing Called Love (the fuck?!) I had high hopes after the music documentary.
February 15Feb 15 i thought i read someplace that the 50th was going to show/recreate 1 sketch per season of the show (their favorite or most famous or something?). no idea how accurate that is, but i'm sure they're trying to one-up the 40th, which will be difficult. if they're recreating some of the sketches, that would explain chevy.
February 15Feb 15 They basically redeemed themselves with the B-52’s. All the old white people in the crowd dancing their asses off to Love Shack is great.
February 15Feb 15 The crowd is truly wild. More stars than the Oscars. It’s so deep, they sat Seinfeld on like Row H.

February 15Feb 15 I’m shocked Ms. Hill showed up on time - they must’ve told her performance time was 2 PM. But she and Wyclef killed it, so there’s that.
February 15Feb 15 Dude, Bonnie Raitt at 75 outclassed pretty much everyone else who’s been up there tonight.
February 15Feb 15 I am a ways behind but The Lonely Island medley was inspired. Edited February 15Feb 15 by A-Tex Devil
February 15Feb 15 How is Peacock so shitty?! I added this to my stuff last week and when I go to start it it starts 90 minutes in.

February 16Feb 16 No Aykroyd or Hader. Bad. Writers on the 50th include Tina Fey, Mulaney, Paula Pell, and Seth Meyers. Good. I’m excited.
February 16Feb 16 Rewatching the concert. Brandi Carlile is so good. Edited February 16Feb 16 by PenelopeWitherspoon
February 16Feb 16 last night was pretty fascinating, seeing how different S1E1 was from today. multiple musical guests, the host (Carlin) in no skits, just intermittent stand up sets. most skits were less than a minute, but the cast had memorized lines - no visible line reading. honestly nothing very funny...Chase got a couple of chuckles from WU, but the Muppet sketch was the best skit.

Yeah. We watched it last night as well. Its surprising that they've made it 50 years. The longer skit at the end with Ackroyd as the home safety salesman was pretty good.

It didn’t age well. Even Carlin’s stuff was extremely tame and only mildly humorous. The sketches were all very short. Wolverines and Bee Hospital felt like they were 1 minute long. If the film is accurate, pretty unbelievable they couldn’t find a couple minutes for Billy Chrystal. Cut one of the songs and there’s plenty of time for Billy.

Agree with everything here, except the Muppet skit. The first 4 shows had an unbelievable change in format, show 2 is a Simon and Garfunkel reunion concert with a few skits. show 3 has a host who was in skits, but mostly as himself, and then show 4 gets close to the format we have known for all these years. Though Candace Bergen is herself in multiple skits in her 2 episodes in Season 1.
February 17Feb 17 Getting dusty seeing Paul Simon at this age. I don't think I've seen him in forever.
