White is an emergency fill in for Morgan Whalen. Whalen was probably jammed down their throats by The Voice producers, but he broke SNL Covid protocol.

But yes, Jack White was awesome.

Whatever keeps us from having to possibly endure a horrible cover version of a Jason Isbell masterpiece is fine with me.

Yeah, Eddie's imitation of Tracy Morgan standing next to Tracy Morgan was next level.

Burr’s monologue and Jack White’s first number: fearless.

Cold open was awful. Carey is washed. There’s a reason he hasn’t been in a movie in a very long time. Lorne will just roll with it though. He’d rather be wrong than admit he’s wrong.

Burr’s monologue is of course awesome.

He was in a movie this year.

Bill Burr continues his Ripkenesque streak of generating zero laughs from anyone other than white males over the age of 40.

Only those who have actually been in the audience at a Bill Burr gig in the last few years will fully understand what a ridiculous and  inaccurate take this is.

it will be a thing. Hell of a hill to die on. He's a comedian. Some just like to fight.

BB's monologue made me laugh, and my husband said 'he's just pissing off everybody!' i love a comic like that. but the rest of the skits were meh.

WU was funny...unlike most of y'all i guess, i thought Kate breaking character with Colin was hilarious. laughter is infectious and watching her break down and just be damn goofy and get the giggles that she couldn't stop was funny to me. it felt like it was unscripted and she just told them 'lemme get out there and just do whatever!'

Jack White is all kinds of awesome.

I know it’s a struggle to put on a live show now, but this season has been mostly unwatchable.

The Biden impression is already worn out. Get Sudekis back.

Titty meat and Weekend Update are about it for me.

Justin Bieber was far from the worst part. that's saying something. 😐

Yeah, this was easily the worst one since Covid-19 started, and that includes those first few zoom-based ones from last Spring.  Even W/U was pretty weak and they had plenty to work with.  Che was nails, everybody else from Jost to the 3 guests appearances fell really flat.

It was far from horrible. Carrey as Biden is a fail, they need Sudeikis back. The open wasn't horrible as written, but Carrey makes it drag. He's not a good fit for SNL.

WU was a 10/10 for me. The Trump Kids are greatness.

I FF thru the Bieber segments.

I usually love the Trump Kids bits, but this one just fell flat to me for some reason.  I liked the part where Jr. realized he'd never introduced Tiffany and Eric.  I guess, they were just a bit rusty but it was maybe the least funny one they've ever done as the brothers.  W/U was still funny, just not the extra-base hit it's been for SNL the last year or two.  I dunno, just getting surly in my old age.  Che stole the show IMO.  80's coke wife wasn't funny, it had potential, but it fell really flat as did Bryant's remote video report.

Thought it was a pretty original new character. Still needs polish. Che checking out the compact as they faded made me lol.

yeah, i do like the Trump kids...Alex Moffatt's take on Eric does make me lol

i think there's something to them being 'rusty', but i also think the size of the studio audience is throwing them - a bigger crowd and the greater chance we would be able to hear some laughter. bits that could/should be funny - like Crystal and Caviar - feel awkward b/c you can't hear any audience reaction, and then it just gets weird for everybody, throwing timing, making it worse.

I really hate their take on Biden. I don’t think it’s funny nor do I like Carrey as him. Trying to make Biden like he’s 90 years old is not funny to me. It’s actually making Trump look good and maybe that’s the point, I don’t know. Show has gone down hill this season so far.

Jim Carrey’s Biden is horrible, mainly because it’s not funny. They need to end that soon

It's definitely not. No cloak room, but they don't exactly hide their desire to try to make democratic candidates--Obama, Hillary, Bernie, Harris, etc.--seem "cool." Safe to say they whiffed on this one.

Sometimes impressions can be funny without being very accurate. Dana Carvey's George Bush comes to mind. It didn't make a lot of sense ("Na ga da!") but it was hilarious. Carey's Biden isn't very accurate and it's not funny at all.

I like Carrey as Biden (although I still think Woody Harrelson's was great too). The writing is kind of flat though. Biden might be too boring to really dig into comically. They should focus more on Kamala. Maya Rudolphs version of her is great.

Wasn't horrible. WU was good. Adele was great for a non-actor.

I turned it on during the monologue. "Oooh, who's that?" (checks channel guide). "Um..."

When did she get hot?

Yeah, she looked smokin' hot.  Psychic sketch was great.  I typically get annoyed when a sketch participant can't hold their shit together, but the timing of her laughs on that "Africa" sketch made it pretty damn funny for some reason.  Lot of swings and misses though (Davidson was maybe the funniest he's ever been in a handful of skits)........ thought it was another average to below-average WU unfortunately though they had so much to work with.  Che has been nailing it though, even more than usual.  Thought it was above average for the last few years.  Looking forward to Mulaney on Halloween.

Adele was pretty good and looks amazing but damn that cockney accent is hard for me to understand sometimes.

I'm guessing it's cockney.

Well for some of us it is.

The weekend update, as usual, is the funniest part of the show.

Agreed.  The fake news before there was fake news.

Kate McKinnon smoking a fake pipe and doing weird voices is funny? I wouldn’t laugh if they were paying me (they are paying the audience).

McKinnon is better than what they’re giving her.

Is she though?  Your first sentence is all she ever does.  Maybe that's just her.  Like the Rudy bit, I find the material funnier than her portrayal.  She insists upon herself.

Are Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant still on the show?  I can't recall a single sketch with either one of them.

Both were on last week. Cecily is mostly a writer that does a few characters when needed.

It's Carey doing the Mask with Biden makeup on. It sucks and it's not funny. The fact that they never delved into Biden's "memory loss" is comedy dying at the altar of politics.

Both are working on other projects and will have fewer appearances this fall. Like sports, Hollywood trying to pack everyone's schedule to make up for lost COVID time.

I'm hit or miss on Carey. This is "just a bit outside"(/Harry Doyle). I really liked his work on Kidding.

Yeah, that was an above average episode considering the pandemic. Writing was mostly solid.

That would require them disparaging a democrat.  Are you not familiar with NBC's work?

No CR

yeah, noCR/ but the Biden thing...they're leaving a lot of comedic meat on the bone. Sudeikis, who I don't find that funny, does a better Biden and I'm sure he's not as busy as Jim Carrey.

SNL had a history of being tougher on Democrats prior to Bush43.  Both Hartman and Hammond did relentless Clinton impressions.  They were just calling him a full-of-shit womanizing conman the whole time, but they did it with such deft charm, that we felt it was a warmer satirization than it really was.  Obviously I'm not old enough to remember the Carter years on SNL, but they've also pulled no punches with Ind & Dem guys like Dukakis, Perot, and Gore (we've all read the story about how it was so spot on that his real life staff made him watch the impressions so he'd get the fuck over himself).  but yeah after the non-stop George W Bush shit for his first 6 years, I think they dialed back on Presidents for awhile until Alec Baldwin insisted he basically take up residency at studio 8H.

They've also handled children of Presidents a lot differently over the years.  I did not care for the sketches with the Bush twins while they were still in high school and trying to stay out of the limelight.  They stayed away from Chelsea and the Obama girls until they were adults, but for some reason the Bush twins were fair game?

Having said that, I don't care what side of the aisle you're on...the Don, Jr. and Eric WU segments are fucking hilarious, especially the one where they were meeting in the parking garage and Don, Jr. brought Eric the backpack full of toys.  I could watch those two for hours. /noCR

They kinda drew attention to themselves partying with SS escort. If they had just laid low nothing would have been said. The twins chilled out and comedy to moved on, but it wasn't long.

Dan Aykroyd's Carter was perfection. Also, when Darrell Hammond did Carter meeting Castro (Will Ferrell), it was fantastic.

I feel like the Trump impersonation is actually pretty tame, considering, you know, everything. A lot of it is just Baldwin repeating things Trump has already himself said. IMO Clinton and Bush got it worse.

Weekend Update is a different matter though, although Norm did used to shit all over Clinton every week.

Do you have any Allman Brothers?

Dave Chappelle hosting.
