September 16, 20214 yr What is this grasshopper? And why am I seeing several of them every day throughout my Austin home, even after the exterminator came? And what can I do about it? I've never had this problem before. Edited September 16, 20214 yr by Theo Huxtable
September 16, 20214 yr https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhaphidophoridae We always called them camelback crickets.
September 16, 20214 yr At my parent's ranch in south Texas we have found some very large ones with main bodies in excess of 2" long. With the legs and everything they look huge an menacing. They have a nasty bite, so be careful if handling. My mom used to call them clothes eater when she was little as I think her family attributed the work of moth's to these guys, even though the wiki says they don't do that. Perhaps it's because they hung out in the cedar chests and dark closets where they stored their blankets and winter coats.
September 17, 20214 yr We called them Croaches. Those things are the spawn of satan. Super fast jumpers and yeah they bite.
