Am curious.
What will VY’s NFL retirement be when he’s eligible to start drawing it?

Vested players (generally after three years) receive a monthly pension at age 55 based on their credited seasons. The average annual pension was $43,000 in 2023

I still, to this day, just can't see how he ever did any of this...looks like he's going slow motion, never really powered through tackles like Cam did.  And yet he just did it over and over and over again.

Bruce Feldman had a recent article for The Athletic where he rated Vince Young the #7 rated player overall of the 2000s. He had Cam Newton and Reggie Bush as #1 and #2.

Kirk Bohls sent him a thumbs up emoticon.

No Colt McCoy anywhere on the list.

It seems crazy to say, but Vince Young is underrated nationally for how good he was. The best player I've ever seen. Better than Earl Campbell, high school and college, and I don't say that lightly. I say that to emphasize how unbelievable he was. What he did with Madison HS his senior year shouldn't have been possible.

Even his first year in the NFL was incredible, until poor personal decisions and playing for Jeff Fisher caught up with him. But he had a sensational second half of a season that year after Fisher let him take over the starting role. What could have been. Ah well. I cherish all the memories I have.

i can't help but wonder if the same weird slow moving view is how he looked on the field and people just continuously underestimated him

he had some swift ability to side step people with his long legs , as well as the best stiff arm i have personally seen

People also underestimated how big he was. AJ Hawk, the Ohio State linebacker, said tackling Young was like tackling a tree trunk.

I remember watching him in high school and defenders just bounced off him. When Vince was behind the line of scrimmage looking to throw downfield he acted as if opposing players weren't even there. If he ever happened to get sacked it literally looked like a tree falling down, with Vince looking baffled as if this could ever even happen.

"That was Vince Young. That drive was all Vince Young."

Just reposting because Jeff Fisher is a sub-mediocre, petulant, sad, little bitch who, at best, should have been working the counter at the DMV instead of ruining what could/should have been an incredible NFL career. Sorry for the shitty quality - all of the decent looking film of this game's highlights is blocked by the NFL

Apparently Jayman Young is going to be a sophomore and plays quarterback . . . for Kinkaid.  I'm assuming his stats will be lights-out.

Just being honest and open, but in that video, I would expect Vince to hit the 20 point hole every time.  Maybe he's just jacking around because he's playing against a kid.

He ain't lying.  Remember when he tackled the KU linebacker that intercepted him or how many points he put up on Kansas when they came to Austin the next year?

I remember seeing a Madison High assistant coach at the Lamar-North Shore playoff game and we asked him about Vince.  I think at the time we had just ended the 2003 season.  He assured us that Vince would be better in 2004 and the sole reason is that he was angry and hated losing.  Only lost 1 more game after that conversation.

VY voted 2nd Team All-Time Associated Press QB behind Timothy Tebow.

I've seen both guys play, if I ever had to bet my life on a QB coming through, its Vincent Paul Young, Jr. The pride of the Madison Marlins, the greatest athlete  from Hiram Clarke and the best QB I've ever seen.

Yep. Still underrated.

It's truly phenomenal that anyone can look at what these two guys did and continue coming to the conclusion that, somehow, Tebow should be ranked ahead of VY.

VY could have made the HOF.

100%. No doubt in my mind. Give him a coach who knew he had the Golden Goose and knew how to coach him and the rest of the offense in a way that played to his strengths and diminished his few weakenesses, then sit back and watch the greatness and the SB rings roll in.

As it is, he changed the way the game is played, at every level. VY utterly redefined the QB position forever, whether he gets credit for it or not. Prove me wrong.

I think he would've had a better pro career than Lamar Jackson with different coaches.

Lamar is my favorite NFL QB to watch now, because he's the closest thing to VY. That said, he's still not what VY could have been in the NFL, but for sure he's a perfect example of coaches knowing what they have and knowing how to let him, and to enable him, to get out there and do his thing, then reap the rewards of that.

Exactly. He only ever got credit for his mistakes, even when many of the mistakes weren't even his mistakes.

He powered through when he needed to. He just didn't need to very often. Never seen someone that big who could come even close to making people miss the way VY did. I played some highlights for my 19 & 21 YOs the other day and that was the first thing they started talking about . They were absolutely mind-bottled.

Just ask Lloyd Carr. He threw his defense under the bus after that Rose Bowl, calling them out for poor tackling. A few days later he came out and said he was wrong. He said the tackling was solid, but they weren't tackling a normal player. Superman was kinda hard to bring down. He esp noted how strong VY was in the pocket. Said he was damn near impossible to bring down in the pocket with just one guy.

^Wow, that was some seriously weird shit. Posted post #943, then stayed right here and posted the following multi-quote response. I hit submit, and the multiquote response was posted in the OU Football 2025 thread. I'd never even seen that thread title before, much less opened it up. WTF? @immamac

Had to come back here and re-post #944 in the correct thread.

The announcer says, "He's looked poised the last two weeks. He didn't make any major mistakes in a 34-27 victory"
