Like father, like son! Vinny Young, Vince’s son, returns a kickoff for a TD to help Kinkaid beat Second Baptist 42-17 in their rivalry game Friday night. Vinny’s old man was pretty good with the ball, too. Congrats, Vinny.

That's great, but can you imagine Madison High VY playing against TAPPS 5A and SPC competition?

almost got westlake ...

Vince Young, then quarterback for the Houston Madison Marlins, played against Austin Westlake in the 2001 Texas 5A Division II State Semifinals, where Madison lost a close 48-42 game despite Young's impressive 400 passing yards, 5 touchdowns, and 92 rushing yards.

Vinny can have his own thread. This is for his old man, they are different people.

What if he is a clone? Have you thought of that?

Amazing team ...

Amazing season ...

Amazing players ...

Had the opportunity to see both Michigan and SC while living in Southern California. After the SC game for the National Championship game in Florida, I hooked up with one SC alumni. He had just recently gotten married and he and his wife were supposed to go on a weddingcruise. She gave in and she made him make sure that they made the wedding cruise regardless of the situation. He posted two  tickets on eBay for $275.00 each as he had already purchased. Myself and Longview friend had already made arrangements for the National Championship knowing Texas would make the final two. On game day, I had people offering up to $1.700 per ticket. I said bullshit as this was the game of the century. Best football experience of my life and still the greatest moment of my life.

It's been 20 years and 2 days, y'all.

Wow. Amazing how quickly it all flies by.

BTW, looks like VY had a little twitter message this afternoon for a certain WR who transfered away.

Vince was that motherfucker. I yearn for a day that we can have another total package TE like David Thomas. He was like VY’s Pippen. He was always downfield blocking on VY’s runs; sometimes taking out two guys at once. When we needed a 3rd down here comes DT with a zone beater. Damn, we had some great players back then!

David Thomas also extended so many drives either by making clutch athletic diving catches or just running over 2-3 people to get the first. In my mind he was the second most important person on that team.

There were two game saving plays(at least) on offense for us that night. 1. Someone fumbled, and a lineman fell on the ball

  1. David Thomas turned DB for one bad pass(only one as I remember) Vince delivered and knocked the ball away from the DB.

Then there was the greatest interception of the modern era for us, as SC QB was heating up and wouldn't be stopped hardly any after that; ball was intercepted by Griffin?

Yep, I still remember that as maybe the most amazing play of the game. Michael Griffin came flying out of no where to snatch that touchdown away.

It is worth revisiting, I think, that the two best QBs in the country were on the field the same night for the national championship, and they both, to my memory, got hot at just about the same time. I mean Leinart didn't have an incompletion for a sustained period of time, and Vince was being Vince.

The only difference was one defense was a notch better than the other. I don't remember SC defense making a "wow" play all night.

But also, Pete Carroll was billed as a defensive coordinator and he threw everything but the kitchen sink at Vince on the last drive, and had nothing to stand on.

Okay, but was Carroll really an outstanding DC? Did he ever have a top 5 defense?

My top two favorite quotes from the night are both from Dan Fouts.

As Keith Jackson was struggling to come to grips with the fact that Vince owned the entire college football world, he attempted to talk about real estate...."blah, blah, blah" and then Dan says "He OWNS this field". I mean to me, totally destroyed Keith's attempt at an analogy.

Then of course the one most people remember, "He doesn't remind me of ANYONE I've ever seen."

IIRC, SC had a hell of a defense the year before when they beat the shit out of ou. Pretty prolific ou o with the child beater at RB couldn’t really do anything.

I always thought their D our year was down. Which is one of the reasons, along with it being pretty fucking hard to beat VY, that we had a decent chance despite the media nonsense.

#979

The steaks I had at VY Steakhouse were better than Bob’s, Flemings, ect in Austin. It was only twice so maybe I got lucky but they were melt in your mouth tender and delicious.

yeah, honestly, when i lost my job as an educator over a decade ago and was no longer able to work i went into a depression for probably three years. the thing that got me out of it was just looking up one day while i was doing something with my mom (hooping, fishing, ceramics, whatever) that i realized that a lot of people were in the same situation that im in (chronically ill, no longer working), but that none of them get to spend every day with a woman as amazing and inspiring (and hilarious) as my mom. i turned my attitude around from there, and i wouldn’t be where i am today without that realization. it truly feels special every day to actively be appreciating the time we get to spend together. 🤘🏼

possibly a future one too. Texas Hoops commit Bo Ogden is the white boy in the white sweatshirt. and for those who don’t know his dad played at Texas with the founder of Hat Creek, Drew Gressett. Bo is a senior at Westlake and a top ~40 national recruit.

i can't help but wonder if the same weird slow moving view is how he looked on the field and people just continuously underestimated him

he had some swift ability to side step people with his long legs , as well as the best stiff arm i have personally seen

He was deceptively fast. DB's constantly taking the wrong angle because they underestimated just how fast he was.

Came all the way from the other side of the field, high pointed, making the catch, and then getting his foot down in the endzone, to make it a touchback, and not on the six inch line (or out of bounds) was superhuman. Truly one of the greatest interceptions I have ever witnessed.

Anyway, my future wife and I along with two friends were in Whistler skiing the weekend of the Michigan RoseBowl. My friend and I watched it in a bar full of Michigan fans. He and I were the only ones in in burnt orange. After that field goal, the room was silent except for my friend and I yelling "Texas TEXAS yee haw!"
