that lady is insane for listing his stuff at $50k per item. absolutely nobody is interested in even approaching that number for anything belonging to Vince Young, save the Rose Bowl.

If Vince did not want the school HOF to have these goods, at least pay the bill so that his kids can have or sell them.

No kidding?

Is he still drunk?

He’s not very smart. He coulda stored that stuff on my mantle for free

He was at the grand opening of a poker hall in the valley last night, such a sad life after his career ended.

I’m sure when all is said and done we’ll find out Jeff Fisher was behind this. Fuck Jeff Fisher!

At least his Heisman is safe at Reggie Bush's house.
no it isn't unless ratbastard reggie stoe it again after he returned it.

Sucks every time this thread is bumped

It does. He’d have to take “how to have better judgment” classes for 20 years just to work his way up to having no judgment at all.

This is 2019 not 2005. The aggy half of Houston hates him, the rest that care also know he washed out of the NFL, had two DUI arrests, lost his job with UT, and now is either too poor to pay his monthly Public Storage bill or too dumb to get his irreplaceable items out before it got padlocked and auctioned to Dave Hester, Jarrod, and Brandy.

Varies but most places it's 6 mos to a year.  He could pay up to seconds before the auction starts, he could have also had someone bid on it for him and paid for it.  Either he wasn't reading or getting the notice of sale.  Would have also been listed in the paper.

Why not store the trophies and helmets in your house? Or your mom's. Or your sister's.

Yeah. I’d have loved it if he stored them at my house.

USC's biggest donor owns Public Storage. Coincidence? I think not.

Seriously, the concept of long-term storage units is so incredibly foreign to me...it's too valuable to me to throw away, but not valuable enough to keep somewhere easily accessible, so I'll pay somebody else to store it in a dark room indefinitely that I'll only visit every other year to add more shit to.

He could’ve stored it in that big empty hall over at Pyle Field, rent free.

Yeah I'm sure our Hall of Fame in the stadium probably could have held a Maxwell award and a couple of Rose Bowl trophies.

Not to mention he probably could’ve gotten the Willie IRS treatment and had fans buy them from him and just give them to the museum.

and pretty quickly, the rent will exceed the value of the items. Units are what - $150/mo? $1800/yr.  These things are only good for 1-2 months to store furniture/home stuff while you transition to a new residence. If more than 3 months, it's a huge mistake to use these facilities.

He may not really care about all that stuff. It's pretty common that fans care way more about that memorabilia than the guys that actually did it.  It's why you always see awards, super bowl rings, etc up for auction when there's no financial hardship driving it.

That Maxwell award is the reason his number is retired at Texas. If he doesn't care about that then lets put #10 back into circulation.

Re: the above post mentioning Lamar Jackson

I am obviously biased, but I believe VY was a better runner and passer than Jackson; or at worst isn’t much behind Jackson in either category. In 2006-2012, the narrative on ESPN et al. was that he’s just an athlete playing QB, not an NFL passer...college schemes will never work in the NFL...he will never have success in NFL (ignore his winning record!). In 2019, everyone is gargling Jackson’s balls. The media narrative (along with Jeff Fisher and VY’s attitude) contributed to his truncated professional career. Talking heads talked shit, non-Longhorn fans talked shit, coaches and GMs that might have been interested were too scared to take a chance and be called a moron if VY didn’t work out.

Of course the NFL was behind the times. They've always been risk averse and are 10-20 years behind, typically, on adopting new trends. The new NFL craze of hiring spread offensive minds is about 15 years too late. If you had put Mike Vick or a motivated, healthy VY with a coach like Andy Reid or Sean Payton or Pete Carroll, they'd have rings. Hell, Reid almost did it with McNabb who is a super poor man's version of the aforementioned players. Most of the athletic QBs in the 2000s and early 2010s were wasted on coaches that were a decade or more behind the rest of the world in regards to offensive concepts.

That said VY is not even close to being a better runner and passer than Lamar. Lamar is better at both.

The problem with VY is that he doesn't have much of a work ethic.  Can't get by on talent alone in the NFL.

Very sad !    eBay page link did not work for me.   Quick search of ebay was negative.

Several trophies and other sports memorabilia belonging to former University of Texas star Vince Young are now on eBay. An anonymous seller says they bought the contents of two storage units that previously belonged to Young at a semi-blind auction in Houston.

“We’ve acquired 2 storage units formally [sic] belonging to the award winning, record breaking, newly inducted into the college football hall of fame, Football Star Vince Young,” the seller says in a post selling Young’s 2006 Rose Bowl trophy for offensive MVP. The “buy it now” price: $50,000.

Young could not be immediately reached for comment.

The seller’s eBay page also has listed as for sale Young’s Manning Award ($50,000); 2005 Maxwell Award for college player of the year ($50,000) and his Madden 08 Xbox 360 NFL award ($12,000).

he seller also posted for sale Young’s helmet he wore during Texas’ 41-38 win over the University of Southern California in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

“We will be listing rare one of a kind items from these storage units throughout the next couple months,” the seller says in the post. “You are welcome to pick up locally in Austin Texas.”

Young was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame earlier this month, the 20th UT player to earn the honor.

He played in the NFL for six years after getting drafted by the Tennessee Titans third overall and winning rookie of the year honors in 2006.

Young was recognized in Houston Tuesday by Mayor Sylvester Turner and the Houston City Council, which pronounced it Vince Young Day.

Despite the accolades, Young has been hit by some stinging set-backs.

Earlier this year, UT fired the former star quarterback from his part-time job for poor work performance and “failing to maintain standards of conduct suitable and acceptable to the university.” Young, who was making $50,000 annually as the Neighborhood Longhorns development officer and a football camp specialist, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in January 2016 and sentenced to 18 months probation. He was arrested again in February of this year around 4:30 a.m. just outside Houston for allegedly driving under the influence.

What's with our guys and picking stupid agents? Remember when Ricky became the lighthouse client of Master P's agency and signed that ridiculously player-unfriendly deal with the Saints?

This here. Knowing what happened then and how the 'experts' said the zone read & shotgun spread couldn't be run in the NFL, when even most of us knew better ... it just makes me sick. Now there are guys who couldn't carry VY's jock running the zone read successfully and being hailed as amazing athletes. LMFAO. I saw a fucking TE run the zone read for a TD the other day. A fucking TE. Just imagine for one second the fucking havoc the best zone read qb in the history of the game could have wreaked had he gone somewhere with a coach with vision, who would just let him run it a few times a game and play a significant amount in the shotgun spread.

Imagine what Kyle Shanahan could do with a VY. And I disagree that Lamar is better at either. He is definitely different as a runner, but not necessarily better. I don't think he's as good as a passer. But it's really splitting hairs. It's just a shame that VY never got the chance Lamar's getting.

And yeah, with defenses at the time geared to stop anything BUT the stuff VY could do best, any offensive coach with half a brain could have won multiple rings with VY and been hailed as a fucking wizard.

Yeah he sued and won something like $9-11M, then immediately paid off his debts. A lot of people never gave him credit for that.

Johnny Manziel won a Heisman and has a sweet job selling insurance.  Vince Young did not win the Heisman and is unemployed, save for a few dates selling his autograph at places like bingo halls in the RGV.   Dude is a retard.

If Lamar Jackson stays healthy he's going to be a first ballot hall of famer. Not taking anything away from Vince. But Jackson is ridiculous.

But yeah. Shanahan is another good one. Harbaugh. Maybe even Pederson, McVay, Kliff, etc. (jury still out on those three imo).

Sure. As he should. Now go back in time and put him in Tennessee under Jeff 7-5 Bullshit Fisher and see how that shit turns out ... or put VY in his prime in LJ's shoes & watch what happens.

I'm talking about talents, not NFL results. Their situations are completely disparate. I'm not sure VY could possibly have been more effectively limited by offensive philosophy than he was in the NFL.

I never could find a gomer to take my bet in early 2014 when I told them they could bet any amount of money they wanted on the over that Manziel would win 31.5 games in the NFL. Not even the logic bereft self aggrandizing homers were that dumb.

You were fishing for a HUGE gomer.  Smaller bait would have gotten more bites and you'd have still won.

Since the same tales from his playing days keep coming back up: Obviously VY deserves a nice share of the blame for his lack of success, but as a counterbalance to the narrative that he peaked as a rookie, his QB rating in each successive season where he received significant playing time before the wheels came off was 66.7, 71.1, 82.8, and 98.6.

Pretty much any efficiency metric tells a similar tale. Whatever the truth of the reports of his work ethic and the partying, he appeared to be improving quite a bit as a passer.

The only season they managed to win without him (‘08) they had an elite defense. Otherwise, they were pretty much the worst team in the NFL without him and a playoff team with him (and had a mediocre to terrible defense). That doesn’t excuse all of the grief he’s brought on himself and there were certainly better QBs, but he was and still is wildly underrated as a passer.
