Well, flinging the riders several hundred feet through the air wasn't really a better option.

Wasn’t the comment something like “every expert we’ve talked to about this project has been wrong.”  I wonder if the experts all told them that a raft shooting down a ramp was a bad idea.

Exactly. Any ride that necessitates a net canopy to keep riders “in” needs to be reconsidered.
