(Discussion) how surly is too surly? where does the line get drawn?

What thread is this in?

I just surlysearched for "massive solar investment" and found the post (direct link) in the Joe Biden thread in CR. Vibes went on to post the usual "climate change isn't happening" rhetoric along with the usual fearmongering of us facing blackouts if we stop using so many fossil fuels.

It is funny that GRUhorn is the example that cheeseweasel chose because the current sock already has some mod protection from crowdsourcing. I pointed it out in the "shits borked" thread but never got a clear answer on if it was intentional or a bug to artificially have +140 rep protecting him from creating/utilizing his fifth or sixth sock

Thanks, I forgot where I saw it & I'm not really familiar with the post in the CR. Again, if he's a shitty poster that creates multiple socks to be shitty, the mods should ban him.

I hear ya, but dude, why is your opinion on the matter so strong when you don't even read the threads or follow the context? For the most part, the mods use crowdsourcing as a strategy and extremely rarely outright IP ban a poster. I think the last one was Chrispy/Animal tobacco and that was after a bunch of whatabouting gun control immediately after Uvalde, while on his umpteenth sock.

I think the better solution than hoping an overburdened mod team bats 1000 is to try to be better posters, back what you're saying with proof and data and citation whenever possible, and strenuously call out and impede shit heels. Turns out that sometimes the shit heels get a neg train ran on them, and it's not that hard to see what started it if you take a few moments to actually critically think about it

Jesus Christ, thank you.  He's always been a drive-by political poster trying to act all "aww shucks, I'm not political at all."

Alien Octopus is a great example of a shitheel poster. Randomly shows up in the Active Shooter thread and starts trolling with shitty posts trying to incite other posters.

because he is absolutely fucking lying.  he spends more time in cr than anyone on here except maybe brisket.

Thanks. I have no idea about either of those posters. His post was spot on, but, the messenger is often the problem. The two negs he received are serial neggers. One of them absolutely knows better, and I guarantee she negged solely because of the poster.

I almost always regret it when I wade into that cesspool, notwithstanding the merits of the instant discussion.  There are a lot of unhappy people there.  They all seem to be very proud of their middle finger.

Lol you sure do seem to be a fan of fascist insurrections, if your posts in the Jan6 hearings thread are any indication.

@Cheeseweasel I would argue that going around acting like there wasn't a fucking armed assault on our capitol with the aim to interrupt the execution of the US constitution is what qualifies as shitheel assholery that could lead to someone getting neg trained.

Watch the footage of the assault with the security camera and police radios time synchronized with the VP and the ballots getting escorted into the joint session of Congress as a literal seige is happening AT THE SAME MOMENT ONLY HUNDREDS OF YARDS AWAY!

Edit: here's the footage that makes it completely fucking outrageous to act like nothing fucking happened. It's not political - just a recitation of facts and documentary evidence.

FWIW, I agree. Arrest everyone involved and let's move on to issues that effect the other 99.99999% of the country.

I mean, the justices that trump put in enabled a new supreme court decision (just hit yesterday, Egbert v Boule) that established a "special zone" that is 100 miles from every land and water border in which CBP agents don't need a search warrant to seize your shit. So in fairness, that only affects like 60% of the US population so I guess we shouldn't care about it right?

My point is: what's going on right now IS the healing process at work. The instigators and coordinators are still out there repeating their lies, and your peers here on surly are gladly echoing the lies too.

It's more than just "arrest them and move on", were in the middle of chemotherapy for our democracy, and I don't feel optimistic about remission.

You think they aired it on Prime Time TV to heal this nation?

Well when half the problem is that the opposition just ignores the reality of it happening... Yes? Have you never had to deal with liars before? You have to remove all room for them to hide in uncertainty and flood the airwaves and discussion with FACTS and the proof that the people benefitting from the insurrection KNEW that "there was no there there" (quoting the president's chief of staff).

When else would be a good time to air that? Do you think these facts are some sort of partisan attack? It's the fucking facts of what happened.

Edit: and yeah turns out the fascists and racists don't like the sunlight on their actions

Oh sure, because trying to fucking overthrow the government only affects a small percentage of the country.

8 hours ago, Cheeseweasel said:

They aired it on prime time because 40% of the country thinks it was good Americans waiting in line to tour the Capitol - not, you know, a 5 month long, behind-the-scenes legal and political attack on the transfer of power that included multiple phone calls by the then president of the united states to other elected officials imploring them to illegally toss ballots so he could be installed as president.

They aired it on prime time because people like you would vote for him again, despite the above.

You give buffalo-headed and loud-mouthed realtor morons FAR too much credit. The govt wouldn’t have been overthrown. It was a terrible stain on the country and everyone involved should’ve been thrown in jail.

Just because it was a bad attempt doesn't mean it wasn't an attempt and isn't important.

There are two threads in the Cloak Room to discuss January 6. Put on your big boy pants and go discuss it there.

No doubt. That’s why they should be thrown in jail. But apart from the embarrassment of it and the need to speak ill of retards, it doesn’t affect 99.9% of us.

 But why?

I mean there are a lot of people on this website who don't give a shit about politics, and none of them are sitting in this thread talking about it or bitching about cloak room rep. If you think a coordinated attempt by the sitting president and a large number of people in his circle to without basis overturn an election is stuff that doesn't affect 99.9% of us, you're a fucking moron. If you don't think that that's what this is, likewise. Although the real issue for most folks who feel that way is that they are too cowardly to admit that they've been had.

I think our government should be overturned and taken away from the oligarchs who run this country. It's unfortunate the morons who tried to do it last year did it for fucking Trump..

I don’t - not really - nor do I really care about cloak room bullshit either, rep or otherwise. Those idiots were never going to successfully pull off a coup. Most if not all should’ve been arrested and still in jail. After the shock and embarrassment of it wore off, you realized this was a shining example of why that idiot was voted out of office, and 99.9% of us were absolutely unaffected by it and we’re able to move on with our lives.

I’m not a coward. I really am indifferent toward politics which I suppose is a very unbelievable, naive thing to say in front of a political junkie. Well I don’t really give a shit.

The thing that you continue to avoid, purposefully, is acknowledging that the attempt to overturn wasn't orchestrated by the MAGA idiots in the crowd but by Donald Trump and other leaders of the GOP party. It was closer than you'd think, that was attempt #1, and it won't be the last attempt. You'll call bullshit on that, because of what you are. You continue to bleat that you don't care about politics or cloak room bullshit, and yet that's most of what you post about. Same deal.

Like Celery said, you're missing the point. The president and his cabinet conspired to knowingly broadcast and perpetuate a lie to incite violence with the goal to halt the execution of our constitution. We need to fucking do something about that, because history shows us that failing to address and punish attempted fascism will only get you more fascism in 5-10 years.

I’m not missing any point. I personally think he ought to be barred from ever running for any office again, and the RNC ought to strongly discourage / outlaw any MAGA candidate. The fact that the GOP hasn’t done this already is….concerning.

Generally you have to have military assets supporting you to successfully overthrow the government.  There is no way whatever those dumbasses attempted - had it been more successful - would have been sustained by the military. Part of me wishes they’d been a little more successful so they’d definitively be in jail as well as Trump. It was a shocking, sad event that is over and doesn’t affect us except those of us who want to remain affected.

Possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read.

It was literally Pearl Harbor.  Sad that only a small amount of right-thinking people get that.

If they’re competent enough to, say, maintain a few buildings with most out of harm’s way, does it embolden Trump out of the gray area and do we have some smoking gun of his expliciy culpability?  I’m thinking ONLY of ridding ourselves of him and his more ardent moronic supporters forever. Because the attempted insurrection never would have worked, thank God, and I frankly want more discouragement of any group in the future that might have competence. This group did not.

There are a number of things wrong with your post BUT THE MOST SALIENT is that you think that this is an actual enemy army from Brownpeopleistan killing Capitol Police so they can install the Ayatolla from Rockandrolla as president for life and that everyone thinks this is bad and wrong.

A sitting president lost an election so he encouraged his dumbest followers to attack the capitol while he threaten the VP and had his Republican buddies cast false electoral votes that favored him after he pressured Raffensberger and told his minions at the Pentagon NOT to send the National Guard and he watched on TV with glee.  Meanwhile Rudy and that crazy ugly woman from Dallas were lying about voting machines and Kraken.  It's a lot to keep up with, isn't it?
