My 10 mo. old dog still gives me hell when I go to put him in his crate for the night.  It's a fucking dog and pony show every night.  Any advice on how to get him to love his crate?

Where does dog like to jam instead (under bed, table, etc.)?

I would take those away at night by blocking them with a box or briefcase until the crate is higher on the list.

If dog likes "caves" you could put a towel over top of crate to cover the mesh.

Finally, use a routine. Our dog won't settle in for the night until I am in bed with lights out. Maybe "go to bed" before you get dog to go into crate.

You need to be the Alpha and not the pony.

Food motivation - reward every time they go into the crate.  Cover it up with a blanket or towel.

Does it know the "no" command, yet?  If so, use it when it starts to whine.  Also, wear the puppy out prior to bed time so it is ready to pass out.

Lastly, second/third the routine factor.  My 4 month old knows her routine in the AM and in the evening and is okay with crating.  It took her about a week to adjust and had to ignore the whining at first.  Also, I moved her crate into the living room instead of the guest bedroom so she will feel more included instead of being isolated.
