"In 2020, 18,796 defendants were charged with new felonies and misdemeanors while out on bond, a number that has tripled since 2015, county data shows. Approximately 89,600 individuals were charged with felonies and misdemeanors in Harris County that year." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/investigations/article/crime-murder-bonds-defendants-courts-crisis-16302521.php Unless felonies are broken out of that, and then violent felonies, those statistics are meaningless. The bail and pretrial detention system is not there to prevent crime. Now, I could go for a rule that murderers maybe shouldn't get bail at all, in most cases. But that's a different deal. "We can’t and we won’t say that there was any evidence of bullying that day or any other day. I also want to say with certainty that Mr. Simpkins was involved in high risk activity," said Chief Jones. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/mansfield-isd-to-host-safety-and-security-town-hall-on-thursday/2779070/
