I was at the 2018 Big 12 Championship, it is nowhere close to the atmosphere and dynamic. Are some of y’all there to watch the Horns kick ass, or is this just another event to be on the scene to get fucked up at? 31 point win and we’re bitching about running out of beer and piss lines. For fuck sake.

I don't think many at all have any desire to ever see that game moved.  We just want them to fix it or hire someone that is borderline competent to manage gameday.   I'm perfectly fine with being uncomfortable and crowded.  It should be.  But running out of water at some locations before kickoff on a 95 degree day and wondering if you are going to make it in stadium in time despite being in line 50 minutes before kick shouldn't be that hard to fix.

If you don't like the Cotton Bowl please just don't go to the game. Plenty of the rest of us who would love to go in your place.

Aggies were originally celebrating Jerry World and that game as something that would at least equal the tradition of Texas-OU.

Oops.

Probably 20+ years ago my buddy had this aggy friend who pitched for the ags. They were both Bellaire H.S. alums in Houston. Knew the scumbag Knoblauchs, etc.  His nickname was 'Pine Tree'.  I'm sure y'all can figure that one out. Hint: it's not a compliment. Anyway, he always used to mouth off about TX-ou, talking about how it was aight, but it was nowhere near as big or intense as TX - aggy. So one year, we took him to TX-ou. He was blown away. He couldn't believe the atmosphere and how perfectly all the discomfort, etc created the perfect nasty atmosphere in which to play your biggest annual rivalry game. He finally understood what we were talking about, and it made him sad, knowing aggy had nothing even remotely approaching that level of allsomeness. On top of that, we won.

I parked immediately outside the fair off Fitzhugh, walked in, no one even checked for a ticket, maybe 10 people in line for metal detector, walked south of the midway, no crowd, thru all the buildings to cool off, walked to stadium at 2:10 gate D had a line a mile long with a crowd of line cutters at the front, gate E had no line at all and I was at my seat by 2:25. Couldn’t have been easier.

wish I could say the same for the beer line.

The Cotton Bowl is the best and most authentic place in sports.

Yesterday I asked the beer vendor how may beers I was allowed to buy. His response was only to ask me how many I could carry. And then the gentleman offered to put them all into an ice bag that was sitting on the floor. So I stumbled back to my seat with like 6 beers and 6 white claws.

We should kill this thread because the notion of not having this game at the fair is insulting and stupid.

I forgot I had a really nice pocket knife in my pocket while entering the Fair, one year, it was probably 2003, so right after 9/11 and the new security. I didn’t want to go back to the vehicle and I didn’t want to loose the knife, so I just pulled it out of my pocket with my keys and wrapped it up in my hand as good as possible. They wanded everything but my hands, just like everyone else. I walked through and put my pocket knife back into my pocket. I have carried one into the Fair ever since.

I’m not sure I’m seeing anyone advocate AT&T Stadium. I’d honestly rather go home and home that that, and that’d ensure I’d never go to another OU game. I can’t stand that stadium. I want the CB cleaned up considerably. It’s a significantly worse experience than it ever has been and isn’t sustainable.

I’ve been 5 times. Twice before the complete upper deck expansion and 3 times after. What exactly is so unsustainable? It’s crowded, hot, and old. If you’re expecting 2024 amenities from a 96 year old stadium just keep your ass at home. This game is a portal back to the times before club suites and Lexus lounges. Just like attending a game at Wrigley, I know before I go it’s going to be crowded and cramped with long lines. But dammit it’s a majestic experience and hard not to have a reverence for legends of the past when walking in, knowing that Street, Steinmark, Earl, Ricky, Vince, McCoy among many others all played on the same grass now immortals for their Red River heroics. Have some respect for the game.

Jeff Ward had a long soliloquy about everything wrong with the stadium --- it's a dump, it stinks, not enough this, not enough that, bathroom situation is unacceptable etc ... ---- and concluded "it's the most glorious thing in college football."

Yes, indeed.

yep. the herd mentality/stupidity was on full display.  did basically the same thing.  It is like people don't realize there is a "back side" to the Cotton Bowl.

first thing I do every year is walk in food court and find cheapest beer spot.  Buy one.  walk to the end of the midway and find cheapest beer tent. there is usually a fletchers at the end with no line as well. Buy one.  you are set for the day.  Enjoy fair and kick dirt burglar ass.

We can add Silas Bolden to the list, imo.

My God the strawmen in this thread are out of control.  WE WANT TO KEEP THE GAME AT THE COTTON BOWL AND THE FAIR.  Just fix the obvious shit like:

1) Entrance gates that don't require 45 minute long waits

2) Don't run out of water bottles at halftime

3) Open up more concession stands to reduce the wait time for beer

4) (to Dallas): fix the DART trains that stay at stops for 10+ minutes, requiring over 60 minutes to get from the fair park station to downtown

5) (to the Fair) If you're in a generous mood and want extra credit, get rid of the fucking coupons at the fair - because the coupon lines are long and I would have spent $100 on stupid shit playing "toss the dart at the balloon" if it didn't require waiting in the coupon line

I'm willing to deal with the heat, crowds and the horse trough pissers.  Just fix the above and keep the good stuff.

Yeah. First of all the game isn't going anywhere, never will. The Bowl is a dump but a year from now there will be more space and amenities. As someone pointed out above, the stadium itself is a great place to watch the game. And there's none of the maniacal, assault-and-battery-on-your-senses nausea we have at home games. Just football and an environment that is unmatched, in any sport of any kind. One of the best sporting events in the country and that's not even open for argument.

Savor instead of bitching and moaning.

Thank God for renovations. Hopefully by next year when everything is done the new Cotton Bowl won’t have so many problems. I’m looking forward to bigger gates and more bathrooms. But please, please please please cotton bowl stop running out of beer.

I’m glad, thanks to soccer, they went back to natural grass. Seems like 25 years ago.

I started this got dam thread and I’m not quite sure how we got from “can you please bring enough bottled water so people don’t stroke out in the stands” and “maybe having more than three assholes checking your e-ticket at each gate would be a good idea” to let’s move the game to Arlington and/ or stop being a pussy and suck it up. But here we are.

I’ve sat in some pretty badass club seats at Wrigley and Fenway, too.

I learned something this year. I was not aware of. if I’m not in the mood to drink warm michelob ultra cans, I can leave the game and re-enter with wax cup beers. Or maybe I got lucky at my gate. I also had some good vibes going so that may have helped too..

Ya, but I would willing to bet you took the Red Line to get there which is a complete cluster fuck of people in herds. Wrigleyville outside is more of the same sea of people.

Nope. Black car, yo. Club/suite entrance. No lines.

I am with you on the coupons. I had two buddies with me that did not attend either school, this was their 2nd time and they fucking hate the coupons. Just go to cash or pay apps, maybe by improving the cell signal at the park, they can move more towards pay apps.

Edited by HtownHorn

Replacing coupons is like replacing the wax cups. They’ll never do it and they never should. It’s what makes the fair great.

8 coupons for a fucking corny dog sounds a lot more reasonable than seeing $8. Oh and you wanna go tap pay be ready for the tip option like Starbucks and fuck that. Give me coupons all day.
