I assume his version of Rocket Man is the background music for the entire flight?

CNN

Quote

Retired NASA astronaut Scott Kelly joined CNN prior to the launch of the Blue Origin rocket. He said that the crew's experience today will be like "an amusement park ride on steroids."

"I think what they're getting ready to experience is basically an amusement park ride on steroids. It will probably be the greatest ride of their lives," Kelly said.

Kelly joined CNN on air during a hold on the launch, which the company is saying is due to vehicle readiness.

Kelly speculated that the hold could be for a number of "normal" things like "a failure of some hardware or software. It could also be paperwork."

Kelly was asked about a reported letter that was signed by 21 current and former employees of Blue Origin in which they raised safety concerns and said they wouldn't be comfortable getting on a Blue Origin flight.

He said that anytime somebody gets on a rocket "there should be a little bit of pause."

"If they didn't, I don't think they would be human, you know? It is just such an unnatural act. So, of course, when something like that comes out, I think, you know, if I was the crew member on board, I would look into it thoroughly. And then, you know, make a decision from there," Kelly said.

If anybody is in Van Horn in West Texas, are you all able to watch it?

And if something goes wrong and Bezos gets Shatner killed....there maybe money in recovering Shatner's toupee and/or merkin.  According to a friend.

Not sure anyone is stoned enough to listen to that right now, at least not this early in the morning.

Nope. He closed the hatch and sealed Shatner's fate

Shame Leonard Nimoy isn't with us, this would be playing the background for millions of ST fans.

Saw this earlier.  Genius photoshop - them all wearing the dreaded "red shirt".  The internetz is still undefeated

Looks like around 9:50 now.

Tower crew is head away from the launch pad, which is good if things are okay, or bad if they are fleeing some unknown problem.

If you told me 10 years ago that Van Horn would be famous around the world as a spaceship launch site, I'd think you were smoking crack.

Damn, I thought this thread was going to be about him dying. Nice to see it's something badass instead.

No, just dicking around.

Bezos definitely overcompensating with that rocket design.

Capt Kirk probably suffered a catastrophic o-ring failure due to G forces

It fires a braking thruster a few feet off the ground. That's what causes the big dust cloud.
