Congratulations to one of Surly's own, Hornius Emeritus

The Texas legislature honored Hornius Emeritus (aka Traces of Texas) on Monday with a special resolution.  I just read the non-partisan resolution and it says that the State of Texas thanks him for promoting Texas history and culture on his social media and website.  No CR, but as far as I'm concerned it's the best thing to come out of Austin in this legislative session. Congratulations to my longtime friend!

Saw this on LiberallyLean.com, but didn't want to call him out, but since he posted it.

He looks exactly how I would hope he would. Seriously, if you saw this guy in a bar, would he not look like the most interesting person to talk to in the entire place?

Oh yeah, and I guess that Traces of Texas is ok. 😀

Hornius, Immamac, Armybrat's shoulder hair...I'm sensing a theme.

Traces of Texas is one of my favorite literary works. He should win a Pulitzer

That’s what the new “Big Tex” should have looked like. Congrats!

Very cool. Hornius looks like he would be the humble but deadly preacher that also serves as the sheriff in Abilene during the 1880s.

What, no wizards staff or belt buckle?  Disappointed.

but really, congrats HE. Totally badass.

Saw this on another site this morning, Congrats @Hornius Emeritus . You deserve all the accolades you get. You are performing a valuable service of preserving Texas history.

That's Gregg Allman, doofus.

That is aweseome, @Hornius Emeritus

Great stuff!  I enjoy all of your posting of IG!!

I LOVE it when he says "steak....it's what's for dinner."

That's the same guy, right?

Seriously, congratulations.  Thanks for documenting the rich history of our state and the people who have made it so through the years.

Indeed. Although his corruption at the hands of Sauron would have me looking over my shoulder.

Sometimes Surly has guys like this to offset the TexTows and Fit Lumps.

What a certified badass we have!

My favorite page on FB and Twitter.... Congrats HE....You look like Texas ought to...glad you're amongst this brood

This was also my reaction. And the Sam Elliot one. Best thing I’ve seen all day.

@Hornius Emeritus is the same guy who tries to make me drink IPAs in a bar?

Craft beer people scary, craft beer weird, mass produced rotgut good!": CommercialsIHate

But seriously, your Twitter feed is one of the few bright spots on that site. You really do capture Texas in all its colors and in all its ways, warts and all. Keep it up!

Hornius probably won't say anything but I have it on good authority from another Longhorn fan that earlier this year, on about 30 hours notice, he dropped everything and drove 350 miles to photograph a wedding after the scheduled photographer got sick from Covid. The photographs that resulted are "high art."  And Hornius doesn't even really like doing weddings.

No one other than the bride likes weddings…but still, good on you HE.

Congrats HE!  Definitely well deserved.  I love learning about Texas history through your post!

Pics of bridesmaids?

You mean one of our posters has actually amounted to something in his life?

Congrats!  By far the best thing the lege has done.  I actually might have some photos for you as well, if you are interested in 1920s Panhandle.

I am gruntled.  Congratulations.
