Dropped by Burnt Bean Co Barbecue in Seguin on the way home today.   Arrived about 10:35 and the line wasn't too bad.  They open at 8:00 on Sundays for brunch, so the line was already moving.

The menu is so vast, it's difficult to decide.  To cope, we got food for lunch and food for dinner (and probably another lunch and dinner.

Half pound of moist brisket, two pork ribs, and a baked sweet potato . . . and . . . the Casanova - huevos rancheros with brisket and barbacoa.

Another half pound of moist brisket, two poblano and jack cheese sausage links, and two smoked pork chops to go.

Everything we've had so far was delightful.  Really looking forward to the sausage and pork chops.

We stopped by the Terry Black's location in Waco on our way to Austin a week or so ago for dinner.  That place was packed.  Unfortunately, for the first time, the food was a little subpar on the brisket front.  Big hunk of unrendered fat in the brisket.  The ribs still were solid, but the Dallas location has been extremely reliable for decent food with little to no wait.  I Hope I just hit them on an off night.

Had the Burnt Bean pork chops for dinner and they were great.  Moist, tender, and well seasoned.

Pulled them out of the fridge, vacuum sealed, and warmed in some 132 degree water.

Swung by Stiles Switch in Belterra last night for the first time.  These ribs... they are fantastic.  Love the peppery rub

top 50 my ass

They been on any recent Top 50 lists?  I think like 12 years ago maybe.  I love hit that up on Saturday before college football kicks off.  But it's more a chopped beef sandwich and ribs place and dang sure don't want the sliced brisket.

They were on the 2021 honorable mention list.   Basically the second 50 or in the top 100.

What time should I get to Goldees on Saturday? 6:30? 7?

To answer my own question:

We got there at 7am and were third in line. At 8am there were 15-20 people.

Amazing bbq.

Screw those scumbags.  They owe a lot of people a lot of money (including me).

I didn’t say anything good about them.  I was just wondering if there was any news on this story.  Was hoping for an indictment or two, and some real gossip on how much tax money got shoveled their way.  I hope you get your money out of their sorry ass.

I love 225.  Really strong game.

you can do a very solid tour of great bbq from Goldee’s over to Hurtado and 225 in Arlington to Zavalas in Grand Prairie.  All 4 top notch.

I got to check out Brisket Love in Lindale last Friday.  Brisket was very good, but the house-made sausage not so much.  I'll need to try the ribs next time, but definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.  Not to far from I-20.

Curious if LA BBQ ever had to pay a fine for their insurance fraud.

Going to assume they settled because it sure sounded like it was allegedly a very clear cut case of insurance fraud.

Allegedly.

Is Terry Blacks my best bet for dinner service in Dallas?

Yes

225 does lots of things besides the usual.  I’ve had a chicken fried brisket as a special but has this beef rib ramen that will knock your dick in The dirt. The shrimp tacos are great too.

Anybody got a recommendation for bbq that will still be open for dinner somewhere around South Congress on Friday night? We never stay down that way but for some reason we are this weekend and trying to figure out a good dinner option that includes being easy for kids.

It’s further south but try Leroy and Lewis’ store front. The food/drinks are great and they have some items you don’t normally find.

I know people have different opinions on it but just sitting outside eating a Rudy's pork loin sandwich with pickles and sauce tastes pretty damn good, right.  It's the simple things
