Swung by Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue on the way home today.   In addition to usual barbecue days, they are now open on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Most of what I bought was for dinner tonight, so no picks.  A pound of moist brisket, two links of chile relleno sausage, and two sides of carrot souffle (my favorite non-traditional barbecue side).

Also grabbed a $20 full rack of spare ribs that was vacuum sealed and chilled.

For lunch, I got the brisket tacos and bacon slaw.

Brisket on homemade tortillas is hard to beat.  Bacon slaw was great - something I'll try to reproduce at some point.

Grabbed a couple chocolate truffles for my wife.

Tejas remains on of my favorites - top ten for me.

Stopped by Mum today on the way back from fishing.  Ate some pork ribs there and brought a pound of pastrami home.  Pork ribs are great, solid bark, perfect bite.  I just wish they weren't so sweet (I always forget to tell them not to drizzle the sweet sauce on them).  Looking forward to Pastrami, sauerkraut, and potatoes for dinner.

Met some family at Smitty's (I was not part of the selection process). Meh. Brisket and sausage were fine - pork rib wasn't something I'd pay for myself.

Then walked around downtown and walked by Barb's and thought... God dammit they should have ate here.

And there was NO ONE at Barb's.

I lament the slow slide of Smitty's.  That was always my favorite Lockhart joint.

Yup, Smitty's was my favorite.  Now you probably couldn't pay me to eat there.  Very sad.

Those prices are very . . . specific.

In my younger days, I was in sales.  I learned that specific numbers as opposed to round numbers gives the appearance that there is a closely calculated reason for the amount.

So you’re saying that all the other bbq places are just pricing it out of their asses. Got it.

Gotta get back to Barb's, some of the best bbq and sides I've eaten!

Also, if you follow Ant's BBQ on YT, he just posted a great story about Burnt Bean.

I need a road trip to Seguin and Luling and then have a food coma.

The chicken was absolutely great.

Yep.  Their chicken is absolutely outstanding (to be honest, almost everything they have is outstanding).   They smoke it to holding temp and then flash fry it right before serving.  Crisps up the skin and comes out piping hot....but juicy as shit and that undeniable smoke flavor.  It's fantastic.

Bill Millers is busier than HEB in san antonio. Extra cooler truck to handle the volume. Their thanksgiving kit is damn popular ….

Went to Helberg today and opted for 1/2 lb sliced, a link of regular sausage, and the Chimichurri slaw.  Slammed.

P Daddy’s BBQ Helotes - slightly better than Bill Miller’s. Nothing special. My chopped brisket sandwich was on the dry side. Ribs were extremely meh. Very Good beans.

To answer my own question, the answer is YES, but only from their Anytime Eats menu / deserts.

Finally made it to Brotherton’s. Fairly disappointing. The brisket was dry and the sides were very weak. I don’t get the hype.

Unfortunately, Brotherton's fell off fast after John passed.

Any specific recs to get from The Pit Room?

We went to the newish Memorial outpost of the Pit Room for lunch a couple of months ago. Arrived 12:30ish on a Friday and there was no line at all. I got a sliced beef sandwich (meh), chicken taco, (bleh and greasy), and potato salad, (average). The condiments bar was very good.

Overall, very underwhelming and probably won't bother again.

Sadly this has been my experience too.  Quality is nowhere close to the original Richmond location, and frankly it’s not worth ordering anything other than the sides.  Some satellite bbq locations work out, like Terry Blacks in Dallas, but there is something fundamentally wrong with the Pit Room’s execution.
