Someone a while back recommended "Brendyn's" BBQ in Nacogdoches so Mrs Shooter and I gave it a try last weekend. I'm glad to say the brisket was spot on. Tried both sauces, a more traditional red sauce and a yellow(mustard?) sauce. The red one was very bland and reminded me of a poor quality store bought sauce. The yellow sauce was so vinegary and overwhelmingly strong that it totally suffocated the flavor of the meat completely. I'm not much of a sauce person anyway(unless it's my own), but they were horribad, but the brisket on its own was great. Got beans as a side since for some reason they were out of potato salad at 11:40am, and they opened at 11:00am? They were the baked beans and would rate a 3.5 on a 10 scale.

Brisket... great, pass on the rest.

Got some Brendyn’s earlier this week. The brisket and burnt ends were top notch. The ribs were mediocre and the sausage was bad. I threw it out; tasted like cased dog food.

This is what the TM50 taste like outside of the big cities? Oof.

Depending on how much you pay Daniel Vaughn, yes.

Went there with a buddy before Thanksgiving, and they hooked us up with a free cornbread.  Oh man...

Stopped by Churchrow Tejas Barbecue today for lunch.   No line at Noon on a Saturday is not a great sign for a barbecue joint.

Noticed the distinct smell of mesquite smoke on the way in.

Got most of my order to go, so not much barbecue porn.  As I was ordering Miguel walked up and cut off the brunch menu, except for the Real Deal Holyfield.

A quentisential piece to Tex Mex barbecue.  A quarter pound slice of brisket on a homemade tortilla slathered with refried beans, fried potatoes, a fried egg, and salsa.  Outstanding as usual.

A nice place in north Austin.  We'll see how long it lasts.

I mean I’m sure they got that property and buildout for a song, but yeah… I just think that location is doomed, and Vidal’s reputation likely doesn’t help.

I need to stop in and give it a go before it goes up in smoke.

I think that’s the problem.  I worry about the same thing with churchrow that I did about black gold.  it’s too nice a spot for trailer food.  and black gold was good, as is churchrow.

I thought Black Gold was overpriced and trying too hard for mid bbq, but even with more traditional and solid Q I don’t think it’ll make a difference.

What time did you go?  The two times I've been were right when they opened.  On those occasions, we opened and unloaded the front pit.  Your picture looks like the rear pit.

That was the second pit. I think we got there about 10.

Wait to get food after ordering was longer than the line. Probably close to 45 minutes total wait.

This one sucks. We really like going there, but I figured they were struggling.

Stopped in at Burnt Bean in Seguin this morning on my way through town.  Got there about opening time, and there was a modest line down the block and around the corner, maybe 50 people outside the door.  Went to the end of the line.  I waited about 20 minutes and the line never moved.  I had a bit of a schedule crunch so needed to eat faster than that, walked to a sushi place near there, had a nice lunch, stopped at a bookstore/coffee shop, got some coffee and dessert, went back by the line and the people I was waiting in line with were still waiting, probably 45 minutes later.  F that.

Everyone knows when you have the option of a top ten restaurant in the entire state or sushi in Seguin Fucking Texas, you take the sushi.

The sushi part has me thinking he’s trolling. Also had no idea that Seguin had a bookstore.
