how was the sausage ?
Good, I had the jap sausage for the first time, but I think I prefer their traditional hot. Brisket was damn good, and the chop was better than ever.

Alright Golden Triangle assholes, what is the absolute best BBQ in Beaumont or that region that is open on a Wednesday?

Edit: Has anyone tried 1701 BBQ?

Well, stopping at 1701 BBQ in Beaumont was most definitely NOT a mistake. Damn, that was an exceptional bbq lunch. It’s hard to say after one visit, but if they are consistent, they should be top 10.

I knew they would have a beef rib sandwich today and so I had to try that. We got some brisket and some of their all beef sausage they make in house. My Pops and I thought everything was amazing.

heard good things from old friends i grew up with in the area.

their prices are sick...$12.50/lbs for brisket, $15.00/beef rib.  c'mon with that!

beaumonnt isn’t going to support typical bbq prices

You should have tasted it. If they aren’t top 10 on the next TM list, then Daniel Vaughn can go fuck himself.

that’s says a lot given they’ve only been open appropriately 4 months...

Those prices are unbelievable in this day and age given the quality (per the photo) of that Q.

Like I said before, I can’t say how consistent they are since I only ate there once, but it was phenomenal. I’d put them up there with Tejas, Valentina’s, truth and 2M.

I mean 2M here in SA charges $25/lb for Beef Rib and I can promise you they are not paying high rent in that neighborhood.

These guys are doing it for $10/lb cheaper, and only judging by the photo, they're doing it better.

Anybody been to Goldee's in FW yet? Planning to meet a co-worker/buddy from our FW office tomorrow for lunch. Anything we need to know?

The wife brought that article home from her parents' house one day but it appears to have been tossed before I could read it. Don't have sub to DMN. My local BBQ buddy went to a Goldee's pop-up at Hurtado and said they make their own bread, which is supposed to be great. Really just wondering if we need to be in line by a certain time, etc. Our plan as of now is to meet there at 11:30.

im about 99% sure they aren't paying any rent in that neighborhood

Spoiler

because they own the building

also, let's see folks be open for more than 4 months before crowning them a top 5? joint in Texas.

curious what the cutoff is going to be for the next TMBBQ Top 50 - Leroy and Lewis missed it last time I know, as well as a handful of other pretty fucking great spots.

Don't get so tied up in the word that you miss the spirit of the point I was making.

Overhead, whether it be rent, ownership, help, cost of living, area of town, etc etc, ain't driving $25/lb Beef Rib prices in San F'n Antonio.  eg - Oh they don't rent?  Well, then they didn't spend much to own.  Kinda, no, scratch that, exactly like that.

Last point - I thought my "judging only by the photo" was an obvious enough caveat, but apparently it needs to be spelled out, so here goes ---- Just looking at one pic from one day at 1701 BBQ and comparing to personal experience at 2M, if that were all I were given and knew nothing about the history of either one, I'd pick 1701.  ****HAVING SAID THAT****  There are many more factors/variables involved and under no circumstances am I implying that 1701 is a "Top 5" Q joint in this great state.

There, I hope that clears some of this up.

H/t @Patricio Swayze for posting 1701. Out of beef so got some pork ribs and sausage. Ribs on the moist side w/o much pull, tho I was the last one thru the door today so might have something to do with it. Lightly sweet with a touch of black pepper. Sausage is beef with a medium grind, would eat again.

It ain't $15/lb (I'm accounting for shrinkage).

Seriously, I could go to Far West HEB (it's open) and pay $3.59 per lb for a 15 lb prime packer right now, and walk it over to Bert's about 100 yards away, pay them $15 to smoke it for me, and end up with probably 10-11 lbs of glorious brisket for $65-$70, or $6-$7 per lb.  Tip the dude a $20 and I'm still way ahead.  I mean, I'd rather smoke it myself, but nobody NEEDs to pay $20/lb for smoked brisket.
