Their boudin is very legitimate. For $8 it’s like rounding up for hunger at most modern bbq joints.

I will have to dock you for the Lone Star Light. Their bartender is a trip.

Mike is a great guy.  He started carrying Lone Star Light years ago because I asked him to during my drinking days.  Now it's probably the top seller on Thursday $2 beer day.

Goode Company restaurants are really good outside of their BBQ restaurants.  Their BBQ is disgusting.

I miss the days when you could show up at 10:45 and be fourth in line for the 11am opening.  Same thing that happened when Aaron Franklin was named #1.  But still love the quality and experience at both of these places enough to frequent them.

I don’t know how anyone “frequents” Franklins unless they are retired…

Two BBQ Reports from recent travels

The Pit Room - Houston Richmond location

Wagyu Beef Rib was out-fucking-standing.  It outclassed everything else on the plate.

Brisket was not good, jalapeno-cheddar sausage felt like it needed more time on the smoker and the

Pork ribs were better than the brisket and sausage, but it was a different cut than most places so less juicy rib meat.

Would definitely eat that Beef Rib again, but I'd pass on everything else.  Very disappointed.

Stiles Switch - Austin

Fatty Brisket - good bark, very juicy, could easily pull it apart and was pretty damn good.

Jalapeno Cheddar sausage - good snap on the sausage, but overall I'd say it was average

Turkey - pretty juicy for a turkey breast, not too much rub so not whole lot of flavor

Pork Ribs - outstanding, only ribs I've had better were Barb's and Pinkerton's (most favorite pork rib)

Beans were terrible; mac-n-cheese was better than average

Wanted to try Interstellar this time, but Stiles Switch was much closer.

Planning another trip to Barb's in two weeks, hope to be in line early enough to try the lamb chops.

I am and when in Austin, I do.  But also enjoy Interstellar.

Noticed today that Louis Mueller has added a dinner service.  Open until 7:30 Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Not the type of establishment that is going to go under by adding a dinner service, but I'm always concerned about how a barbecue joint repurposes the end-of-day leftovers.  I have no problem with a chopped beef sandwich made with yesterday's brisket, but don't serve me day old sliced brisket, pork ribs, etc.

That's good to hear.  I just saw a sign when I was driving by.

They brought me a side of hot sauce that I dabbed on individual bites of shells… superb!

went to Sunbird last weekend

image.thumb.png.77206a83e7229627d7be9d2a9ab148ed.png

brisket taco on the left, 903 green sauce above it, mel man (IYKYK) and their special of the day - the tex mex boudin ball

also got a lb of fatty to go and their street corn with brisket. both of which were amazing as leftovers

genuinely happy to see Bryan and co doing so extremely well there. it's absolutely the best BBQ in (actual) East Texas. couldn't be happier for them after the last 2 years the have had.

Anybody been to Goldee's lately? Thinking of making a run over with a group of buddies and trying to figure out our timing, likely for a Saturday.

Went to Redbird because 1701 closes at 2. They were out of almost everything, but a decent chopped brisket sandwich. Terrific turkey.

The staff was very kind. We told we were in town to pick up puppies, and they gave us about a pound of brisket trimmings.

That's too bad.   It's a big space and they really didn't have enough notariety or signage to get people to stop just driving down I-35.

I think it may have to do with getting an insane offer, their location is prime prime real estate. He mentions new location as well. I don’t blame him for selling the land if that’s the case and it’s better than inviting some investor in that ruins your place and takes it from you as we’ve seen multiple times

Absolutely.  They mentioned moving out of that space a few months ago.   I just hope they get another spot.   They have the best barbecue between Austin and San Antonio.

Definitely. It was my favorite spot in new Braunfels or San Marcos.

re: Hays County BBQ

I think they were overwhelmed w/ what it takes to run an operation of that size.  They've mentioned downsizing and having more time for family.

So are we thinking this is gonna be better or worse than Big O’s? Never stepped foot in the place given reviews…

I literally laughed at that new sign the other day when I dropped into Pinthouse for a beer.  Yeah, that's a hard pass from me, (bird) dawg.

Not in a few months. I'm still reading that it's best to arrive by 845 to eat by noon.

It’s some of the best chicken, of any varietal, that I’ve ever eaten.

It was a sad state of affairs back in the day, but Goode Co. was better than anything else in town.  I grew up on the west side of town and we would occasionally make it out to Dozier;s in Fulshear, but Goode Co was a few notches above the normal spots like Demeris or fucking Luther's

Glad times have changed for all cities.  That Austin list is sad too.

Don't forget Otto's on Memorial!

I love the near certain fact that Grohl could get into a deep obsessive argument with dozens of surlies about the best techniques for smoking meat and everyone would forget his fame in about 5 minutes.

Dude needs to post here.

He would often cook down the street from my sister (Dave’s mom lived 3 houses down) in the Sportsman’s Lodge parking lot. It was supposedly spectacular and I’m sad I missed it!

Damn, I’d forgotten about Otto’s. I lived a few blocks from there around 1990.

Supposed to have been one of George HW Bush’s favorites.

Tried it once, never went back.

That's what Stiles Switch does with buffalo wings.  They are some of the best buffalo wings I've had.
