We went to the newish Memorial outpost of the Pit Room for lunch a couple of months ago. Arrived 12:30ish on a Friday and there was no line at all. I got a sliced beef sandwich (meh), chicken taco, (bleh and greasy), and potato salad, (average). The condiments bar was very good.

Overall, very underwhelming and probably won't bother again.

Sadly this has been my experience too.  Quality is nowhere close to the original Richmond location, and frankly it’s not worth ordering anything other than the sides.  Some satellite bbq locations work out, like Terry Blacks in Dallas, but there is something fundamentally wrong with the Pit Room’s execution.

What happened to ChampKind?

He moved to New Mexico and got out of the barbecue business.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Dozier's has reopened by some of the original grandkids or something.

Glad I didn't go there then, kids had a meltdown

Richmond location has been pretty hit or miss for me, more miss, on my last few visits to the point I haven’t been back in several months. Just too much good barbecue in Houston these days to risk that kind of money on a middling product.

I stopped at the Richmond location a couple weeks ago and commented a couple pages ago.  Overall it was a good meal.  I swung by Truth first and the wait was easily over an hour, which didn't work for my schedule.

No one should be waiting in lines for bbq these days. One of the fee silver linings of COVID was the widespread implementation of online ordering

no line but it’s too dark outside

Snow's last Saturday. Excellent as always. I walked in and Kerry's daughter was wearing a maroon upside down horns hat and talking shit about her burnt orange T-shirt wearing fan cousin. Gave her the horns up on the way out the door.  Said hi to ms. tootsie as I left.

I lament the slow slide of Smitty's.  That was always my favorite Lockhart joint.

Wasn't that slow. It was inedible before the pandemic. And it used to be my favorite place in Lockhart.

anyone tried black gold?  new place in crestview.

It’s been on my list but every time I passed by they were closed… took FOREVER to open.

If anyone goes let us know as it looks solid.

brisket and beef rib were solid but flavor was not the best I’ve ever had.  pulled pork had lots of vinegar and I enjoyed it.  beef sausage was very good.  pork ribs very good.

what has the line for L&L been like on weekends since they got the tire award?  I’m gonna try and go tomorrow.

line at L&L didn’t start until 10:45.  line was gone by 11:40ish.  a little shocking even with the shitty sunday morning weather.

meat was excellent.

I won a certificate for brisket class with Kareem El-Ghayesh at KG BBQ which I attended this morning.  Such a cool and humble guy.

He served a slice of moist and lean brisket, a burnt end, mac & cheese, and Egyptian bread pudding.
Brought home a pound each of moist brisket and pork ribs and two lamb chops.

I still think he should lean into dressing like The Iron Sheik.

Never a better time to re-watch Steve Martin's iconic 'King Tut'

went to stiles switch last night for the birria french dip. typically a fan of their 12 days of meat specials but this one wasn't great. meat was dry with not much flavor and there wasn't enough cheese. for $25 it wasn't a great deal. also, their service needs work. almost every time i've been they've fucked something up...the order never seems to get communicated properly from the meat cutter to the cash register. last night i ordered the sandwich and 2 sides...got charged for a sandwich and 1 side, then as i was finishing the sandwich a 2nd sandwich showed up and they said just keep it. great, free sandwich. then as i was finishing my beer they show up with a dirty bird burrito. i didn't keep that one. worked out in my favor but wtf, get your shit together.

Yeah I don't find that surprising.  Cedar Park is generally a lot smoother running, and also the quality and consistency of the food is better.  I've pretty much given up on the Lamar location but CP is consistently good.

Excellent. Just down the road from me.

Buda really needs to get a Terry Black's into that old Valentina's location on Main Street.  They would kill there.

Yes, it’s very good. The brisket fried rice is something pretty different and is very good. Their meats a la carte are very good as well

I caught a little Cooking Channel feature on Franklin BBQ this morning.  The show originally aired in 2017, but it was a compilation of segments, so I suppose the Franklin bit could have been shot as early as 2011 when he moved to the brick & mortar location.  Check out these prices:

There was a bit on Austin/Franklin on True South episode this morning.

Any recs for BBQ chicken in Austin?  We're hosting a big family dinner on XMas Eve with brisket & pulled pork, but we want some chicken too and I've never had much luck smoking that particular bird.

I'm aware of Rudy's.  Others?
